There are plenty of applications which would be good for this. Passenger side of a car's windshield for navigation, traffic and weather, etc. Easier to keep your eyes on the road instead of looking down at your GPS.

How about in museums, where you can get information about a display. Or how about display cases in a department store?

Technology does not have to be portable to be useful.

Code 46, Blade Runner, Minority Report, and other sci-fi movies come to mind, but as others have already pointed out, it appears to be rather cumbersome. Why would you want to carry around all those blocks or plates when you could just have something like a touchscreen iPhone? Interesting, but there probably isn't much of a future for this particular product.

lol doberman. This is relative to holographic projectors. They used the idea from holographic and made a screen that can display anything by overlapping it with a device that looks llike ordinary glass. of course holographic is still years out of our technology but this is getting it closer.

I worked on a military training video for Lockheed Martin in North Carolina one time. There was a piece of white paper with weird looking square shapes on it, like computer language. I had placed it flat on a desk table, where web cam looking camera was.. and on this huge monitor on the wall I could see a 3-D model of the earth, ON TOP OF THE PIECE OF PAPER. When I moved the paper, the earth moved with it. When I turned the paper, the earth turned. Was very cool. They had 10 super computers also

really... i have a program that does that, its called blackmagic, its not that exciting really, the computer recognises the black lines in a certain shape, on the screen it places the model that matches the lines onto the image, it keeps checking the position and angle of the lines and updated the image onscreen, you can even have a floating boat moving around if you like, it didn't take a military to do that...

Electrical sensitivity and pressure sensitivity are two different things. Some touch screens now (such as the HP TouchSmart PC) actually can trigger if you're CLOSE enough, even if you haven't touched it yet (I know; it's happened to me many times).

each screen is its own little database, you can put them next to each other so they interact or add a component (like the time machine) and they will react. I dont see why you need to have so many disks though. I think a similar tech will start to appear on mobile phones

They way it works, is each specific piece interacts with each other.

Fore instance, the [Time Machine] Covers the Date. So when the [TM] + [Weather] Nodes are next to each other, changing the date, changes whats shown on the [Weather].

So a [Tm] + [Baseball], means you can view baseball players from a different Era or games, adding a [Weather] node to that, means you could view the Weather for a particular baseball match.

And for all those who think this is useless: check out how Microsoft have adapted this kind of technology in there new multi touch computer. And as far as I understand it the modules is nothing more than transparent plastic with some kind of marking for the board, in fact a screen, underneath to recognize it and activate that region.
