  • i'm pretty sure that allot of these kids have started band when they were about 6 years old. *throws ego out the door*

  • Holy cow!!!! they play louder than some of the 4A bands I've seen!!!! excellent work!!!

  • Yes this band is amazing but dont but other bands down about it keep your negative comments to yourself.... good commenst is great though!!(:

  • This band could even beat Avon!!

  • this was AMAZING!!! loved it

  • You know what...just one word...PERFECTION .

  • My gosh they sound like a drum and bugle corp! They could go to DCI and easily compete! This makes my middle school's marching band look like dirt. What's crazy is their uniforms are almost exactly the same as my high school's marching band uniforms.

  • if this band came to an american marching band competition/festival judges would shit their pants..this is coming from a judge who has judged across the southeast united states

  • i can only imagine what the yokohama scouts sound like

  • how the frank r they all staying in step with eachother?!?! >:O

  • wow puts U.S high school bands to shame

  • Damn. I thought my band was clean.

  • Look up the "Suzuki" method of music education for insight into how these groups learn/achieve on the level that they do. It is true that they generally start earlier, however, it's not in an abrasive, forceful environment like some may suggest. The purpose is to get them curious at a young age about exploring music, providing encouragement and ample resources.

  • wow i wish our band could play inside like this haha our band way to big to fit in our gym much less fit on the gym floor ;( i went from a band of 120 which was big for the high school i went to to a band with 594 members haha takes lots of patience

  • squeak squeak who put them on a wood floor?! sounds like sabotage to me! :P literally

  • i wish i could like this more than once

  • haha why are they marching on a basketball court?

  • imagine them in high school

  • why are asians so good at everything?

  • @captianTeTRA Because we're awesome

  • @geoffreyla Ya, we asians are awesome! ^_^

  • @captianTeTRA they start doin things at younger age and they r awesome but sometimes they r forced and stuff but they learn things earlier than us americans

  • why are asians so good ata everything?

  • .....I can't stop smirking. AWESOME!!

  • im more enamored by the color guard than anything......they are ridiculous.....

  • i jizzed at 0:28

  • This band is better than 95% of the HS marching bands here in the States...especially visually. Though I don't think this band is quite as good as some of the uber-competitive schools in the Dallas/Fort Worth or Houston metro areas or a few of the high-powered HS's nestled in the Indianapolis or Atlanta suburbs. This band def wouldn't make Finals at BOA Nats, and it'd be a toss up for Semis.

...but again, I'm talking High Schools... this is a JUNIOR HIGH BAND!

  • does anyone know the name of this song?

  • This damn near puts the whole US to shame.....

  • My school's band sucks :P

  • this is crazy shit o______O

  • sounds like a lot of tuning problems especially on the first chord.

  • Why can't everyone have Japanese dedication? This is fantastic. I had goosebumps the whole time.

  • Ooooohhh Japan, with your successful children. :33

  • The conductor on stage looks like a penguin! :-D

  • Beautiful. Great sound and output. The drumline plays out very well, good timing. But there were some interval issues at parts but this is outstanding.

  • i really like the show. its epic.

  • It's so awesome that they have woodwinds. It really adds a lot.

  • if our whole population was asian we might be this good too.

  • @LittleKittyShoes Watch some Texas/Indian state or BOA marching bands. Might i suggest some Avon? or perhaps Centerville/Marcus/LD Bell?

  • @456cres lol, I was making a racial joke, not an actual intelligent comment. thanks for the tip though. :D

  • @LittleKittyShoes lol ok :) just frustrates me when people post about marching bands if they dont know the good ones

  • @456cres I played tenors on the drumline but I never got into it so much that I knew who was good and who was not.

  • @456cres hey you know which one has the killer trombone section and doesnt march drums?

  • @dreamtheaterepicwin Cant say i recall a marching band that doesnt march drums!

  • @456cres nvm i found it. Tarpon Springs HS in orlando

  • IM in middle school marching band... This make me sad .....I play BASS DRUM! AND I'M A GIRL!! I started Bass Drum in 6th grade and, I'm the first ever girl lead bass drummer in my country...

  • Ya I went to BOA this year as a high schooler and this sounds pretty good in comparison too...:but too say it's better than some advanced high schools is wrong...shoulda gone to BOA this year...was amazing

  • FOra middle school.... LOL better than MOST USA advanced High Schools.. lol

  • What is this I don't even...

GOD DANGIT I GIVE UP ON LIFE

  • ....I'M MOVING TO JAPAN!

seeing this makes me want to try even harder for our state performance this weekend :D

  • OMFG.

    I QUIT

    IM MOVING TO JAPAN >:D

  • O.O winton middle school has just been OWNED

  • @sesshylover24 every high school at every comp ive been in has been owned :D

  • @RockstarDaniel hahaha ikr X3

  • where can I get a copy of this music?

  • awesome!

  • awesome

  • what the heck!!!!

  • WTF IS THIS HOW CAN WTF DAMIT ALL

  • people dont get that this is what these kids do everyday after school for probably 4 hours everyday. No shit they are amazing.

  • you have got to be freakin kidding me! Junior High? They sound like they belong in high school or college. They are freakin AMAZING!!

  • dammm, i need to show this to the rest of my band member students, we need more inspiration for my band and hopefully watching these junior highschoolers can motivate my band to do there best, TWHS MUSTANGS

  • Marching band is a LOT OF WORK!! We practice from when our school gets out to 7:30 and i still love doing it!!

  • Watching videos like this and reading the comments kinda make me realize how spoiled we are in Texas. Yes, these Japanese kids must work their butts off to get a show like this working, but that doesn't mean that music programs in our country is total crap, either. Look at the bands that go to BOA every year.

  • I would be this good if I had a smooth gym floor and air conditioning..

  • THE GUARD WAS SOOOOOOO OUTSTANDING!!!!!! THEY DO REALLY GREAT

  • i want japan to esplode

  • omg really........this makes me feel like i suck at baritone...........they sound like a drum corp........ it makes me so angry yet happy........this really puts almost every high scool marching band in the US to shame.......these are middle school kids what the heck........grr im angry now

  • @MrBaritone1 While that is extremely good for middle school that is defiantly NOT a really good drum corps sound. Especially since there are obviously woodwinds :)

  • @MrBaritone1 dude these people don't sound like a drum corp they have woodwinds they sound like a high school band i heard better high school bands it sounds better cause this is an original piece

  • @MrBaritone1 but the high school bands i heard were honor bands that had an original score

  • @MrBaritone1 America could be like this if marching band was huge in America, but instead it's frowned down upon as being a nerd's activity

  • @MrBaritone1 it gives us U.S bands a really good reason to keep going and working harder....

  • @MrBaritone1 watch the one with the 7 -12 year olds if you think you feel bad now :(

  • This is my 22nd year teaching band on the secondary level and I can tell you first hand that there aren't many students that are willing to practice this much. The parents are the primary reason music directors have rehearsals where 4-5 students are missing because of orthodontist appts, church, AP homework, boy scouts, sports. It's just not the same in the "land of the free'. Unfortunately, parents force the idea of "mediocrity of much and master of nothing." We have too few programs that work.

  • this puts my current school band to shit

  • their guard is fantastic!(:

  • they are doing stuff in middle school, that DRUM CORPS do here...and you have to audtion to get into those things...AMAZING.

  • omg. i feel like moving to japan now >.>

  • @Soljahboy666

good luck.... they treat Americans the same way we treat Mexicans lol.

well... at least when it comes to immigration and qualifying for a visa.

  • its like watching a movie...lol

  • D: they sound like a corp lol

  • these kids put my high school band to shame :(

  • Its funny. You cant get some high school student to march on step to save you life, but these kids seem to do it so well. And they are practically jazz running at some points.

  • sugoyi!

  • They have middle school marching bands!?

  • Then again they are hard to compare because they march inside.

  • American bands wouldn't stand a chance in Japan competitions.

  • Yeah but also in the states we have a lot of rules so they wont make us over practice like here in texas we can only practice 8 hours a week

  • Werd...they practice 8 days a week!

    Yes....8 days.

  • This is just increadible! Ok, without cross lines and *only* the two lines, how in the heck do they know their dots?????

  • @r8escjohn You don't need dots to know formations; All it takes is watching for your partners. Know who to be next to at each cue. It's not as complicated as it seems sometimes. It just take repetition and it's natural.

  • @r8escjohn Well actually, meme is half right. I'm in my high schools marching band. We do contest much like these guys. When first learning how to do the show we are given coordinates on the football field (or in this case) the gym floor. The coordinates tell us how many steps off the front/back sideline or field hashes and what yard line we are on. Once it's all memorized and you have a general idea of where ur supposed to be, it takes watching people around you to make the picture.

  • They are all smart kids, what did u expect?

  • At least we have one advantage over them... We get to practice on real football fields :D and that's about it? XD

  • and you're a bit taller xD

  • They dont use football fields, just so you know. They base it off the two lines that intersect each other at the middle and each other to get their forms right.

  • i know right?! they are like freaking CLEAN XD

  • Comment removed

  • @ZarsasCostumes Because they are awesome! =D

It's probably something to do with the standards of the country. Japan's the most tech'd country (civillian-wise), and the schools expect much more out of you than here in good old USA.

  • i know they are! i wanna be japanese!!!!

they are so cool. i love them.

  • First of all , iam freshman and 47 seconds into the video and i want to be just like that in 3 years

  • Very nice sound expecially in the low brass. The baritones have excellent tone

  • One thing i really hate about them showing these videos, is that it's a completely different education set up over there. Kids in the US are lucky to have recorders in their elementary music schools. If they spent any thought into the music in the US it might equal this in middle school. But, of course, noone seems to care about culture in America except where their own preferences are.

  • agreed, i wish the music programs in america for elemntary schools kids were half as good as the ones over there. at least introduce the instruments to the kids, my music program in elementary school only made us play the recorder. and even then we only learned like 7 notes. i wish it were like they let us choose an instrument it would be way more fun than a recorder. but of course America doesnt care about musical culture at all. its a pity.

  • also another thing is that music programs here in america get less funding than the ones over there. look they're in middle school and look at what they have

  • The high school i'm at has a multimillion dollar feildhouse, but can't afford to actually pay the band enough to cover needed repairs. So we have 3 bass clarinets (all donated) that can't be used because we can't afford the repairs.

  • lol, oh that sucks.

  • @detaono um, my school actually showed our band what the Japanese can do to show us our learning styles. and plus, they arent posting these videos to gloat! they are proud of what they have done and people actually WANT to watch this stuff and see how people in other countries can play!

  • @MegaDorkface

I wasn't attacking them, though it may have seemed that way to you. I just don't like how the US treats music programs when compared to Japan. I like watching these bands myself. Do-Re-Mi PreK is hilarious to watch when i think of the high school people who can't do that.

  • @detaono i here you. it's all about the money. "music is a waste! making money is more important!"

  • @detaono I don't think thats the case.. I think they work these kids to death having them learn that. Granted, some schools don't pay enough attention to the bands but learning this (as jr. high kids) would be miserable.

  • @detaono

Well, fortunately for my area, we have a 200 sumthin marching band.

They get recorders in the 4th grade and actual instruments in 5th grade and up.

I thought that was normal, but apparently it's not. Only if the US focused on music like our district x]

  • @detaono Im from Cypress, Texas which is just outside of Houston and if you know anything of marching bands then you know that Texas is the power house for maching band shows. Alot of our talent starts in middle school as it should and it is obvious when you see the many amazing shows that high schoolers put out on the field. We just dont let middle school kids do full on marching because they need the basic of musicianship before going to that level.

  • @456cres yes, the common joke where I live about bands when it comes to jobs and quality is, "if you don't like it here, move to texas". The fine arts in general are very highly supported there.

  • @detaono yea we do focus alot on fine arts here. Just today my school made it to area today at UIL.

  • @456cres What school is that?

  • @xerxes876 Im a saxophone player at Cy-Woods HS

  • @456cres Do you go to BOA this year?

  • @xerxes876 No my school doesnt do BOA but today at Area E finals we qualified to go to the state competition in the Alamo Dome at San Antonio.

  • 2nd mvmnt. Q.Q so beautiful! man, if these are middle school bands in japan. Imagine A Japanese Drum corps....... goodbye blue devils.

  • O...M...G My high school band isnt this good. This could definitely be dci world class material.

P S....Look at the size of the kids compared to the snare drums. LOL

  • holy shit these are MIDDLE SCHOOLERS?????????? O.O

  • thats crazy, thats nearly high skool level

  • That's a lot more than what most high schools do. And when I say most, I mean only nationally good bands are this good. They also start this at a very young age though.

  • Well that was really epicly good for middle school kids, considering that most of our band couldn't stay in time in a concert setting at that age. The first trumpets kinda stuck out with their blaringness but I wouldn't expect them to have really good high chops yet. Then again they probably had like a 12 hour hell-practice earlier that day so they probably had swollen bleeding lips at this point.

  • HOLY SHIT

  • god, i love marching band. it truly is an art.

  • There goes my confidence.

  • HOLY SHIT!

  • HD video would be appreciated. The video's blurry but the sound is incredible!

  • I quit life already, fuck!

  • holy fuck! theyre awesome!

  • oh crap....I may as well just quit my HS marching band...

  • Okay...if these are 7th and 8th graders then I don't even feel like going to band practice with my HS band tomorrow, this is freaking awesome.

  • well they're not just eighth graders... it's 7th and eighth in this marching ensemble.. the person who posted it clearly states its his childs 2nd year in marching band.

  • In Japan middle school starts in seventh grade.

  • that just made me feel a lot worse, knowing it's both 7th and 8th graders........ My high school, Vanguard high's, marching band is nowhere as good as this.

  • Vanguard in Ocala, Florida?

  • yeah

  • you're right. they are better than you. :D hahaha.

  • and might i ask, who are you, and what band are you from? No band besides Westport should be insulting Vanguard.

  • West Port shouldn't insult anyone. they seriously don't deserve to. And if you think THEY are the best "central florida band" you are obviously 100% retarded. It doesn't matter what band I'm in, I just know that that middle school band is better than (Excellent) Vanguard. :D

  • I didn't say that West Port was the best "central florida band" I simply said, they're the best in the county, and probably the only ones who can comment on us. And yeah, so we got Excellent and that middle school is better, but really, to say that we suck, is a lie. We did good this year, especially with all the people that dropped out....... we had to fill up a lot of missing people.

  • ok, West Port is not the best in the county. They try harder music and marching, and make a mess. It's not fair to call them the best because they try to do something that is hard, and borderline fail at it. Also, I don't recall ever saying that Vanguard sucks.

  • lol, yeah i agree that West Port is not the best band in the county, but they do put out alot of sound. Anyway, i'm sorry, i don't believe that you ever said Vanguard sucks. I think i simply misunderstood you, i thought you were just saying vanguard sucked in general, but i realized, you were just comparing Vanguard to This middle school marching band. Sorry for the misunderstanding and being so nasty to you.

  • oh its cool. haha you never asked if I thought they were better than my high school band. I do. not including vanguard, rank the marion county bands from best to worst. I'm just curious.... out of west port, north marion, lake weir, trinity catholic, forest, dunellon, and belleview. did I forget any?

  • hmmm..... yeah i think you got them all. I'd probably say West port is probably #1 b/c really, they're the only band that can make it to state and despite choosing very difficult and rigorous music and marching, they are very good overall. maybe something like Vanguard or Lake Weir in second and third, b/c well Vanguard doesn't put out all of sound, but Lake Weir's more of a parade band and they don't do march alot . TC, North Marion, forest, belleview, then dunnellon but hey (12-13 players)

  • Lake Weir is a traditional marching band (the only one left), because our goal is to entertain audiences, which is what a band is really for. What we play is upbeat, and we try not to bore the audience. We don't care about being the best, but we want to entertain! We went to tarpon springs, (youtube them-watch "art at the speed of life"). Their fans complained to us, "we wish our band was more like you guys, they are boring!" Their principal said that too! FBA results don't lie, either. :)

  • lol true, i heard you guys at a game playing the seminoles and gators songs, you really got the fans pumping, and you guys put out a hell of a lot of sound, especially your trumpets, sometimes too much. Lol, but i'd rather hear more brass than more wood-wind (Vanguard :( ). I'm curious, what instrument do you play?

  • I play the Saxophone in jazz band (my favorite), but I play the mellophone in marching band. I was also the kid in lw that ran up and played the marimba in the percussion feature. What do you play?

  • For Marching i play Baritone, one of only two, which really sucks, cuz' i gotta cover alot of ass for a full baritone line and make my sound blend at least a little and not get overpowered amid 70 other people. For concert i was gonna play alto (I like Alto Sax and Baritone equally, but Alto is really sexy) but since i'm one of only 2 bari's and there are like 13 alto's, i have to keep bari. :/

  • SHIT! And to think I actually thought Marching Band was the only thing that Japan couldn't out do America in. D;=

  • they cant beat our DCI. i have full confidence in that

  • maybe, these kids are only in Jr. High though, most people in DCI are around 17- 21. Give these kids another 4-5 years and I'm sure they can put up some fine work :D

  • hahah..u know I never really thought about Japanese doing marching band but then again it shouldn't be a surprise right? lol...they are amazing though!! leaves me speechless and concidering that they are only 8th graders..I wonder how their highschool is?? ^_^

  • wow.......puts my high school to shame.....and they're eighth graders!!! what i wouldn't give to go to school in Japan.

  • It annoys me that color guards "get away" with not being extremely precise

  • Those guys can kick our high school's little behinds! And to think they're just about the same age! Only little detail I noticed was that they leaned into their forward march in some places. But it kicked ass overall.

  • DAMN! I bet they could kick ohio states butts... they dont even have yards, just those two lines and every line is perfect!

  • Damn I would do anything to go to Japan and be in a marching band in 8th grade.

  • EIGHT GRADERS. Unbeliveable. (:!

  • hahah wow that better then a lot of shit marching bands that CA has.... (shit school like LA Has)

  • It is SEIKA japanese girls high school??

  • WONDERFUL COLOUR GUARDS!!!

  • Whoaa.

    Oh my, they are AMAZING.

Blow my highschool marching band out of the water!

I really like the flute solo :)

and how in step and together they are.

  • Discipline ? Something that my school doesnt have and it seems like this group has... just listening to this makes me imagine one of those bands our high school listens to during competitions and we say " why cant we be as good as them "

  • Must Japan be great at EVERYTHING?!

  • i wish i lived in japan....marching in 8th grade would have been awesome!!!!! and they make are MB look like crap....GO JAPAN!!!!!!!!!!

  • 0:56

WOW, that man threw a flag at her, and she caught it!

  • oh em gee? 'o.O

  • I wish we had marching band in middle school. We would have been huge. We had like 40 people in each grade, but when you get to high school its really small cause everyone quits after 8th grade. Mainly because of the band director.

  • Japan is amazing. If anyone wants to be awesome at MB we should move there!!!

  • yanks and japs are great at this its a shame that england doesnt have stuff like this :(
