He would not have "balls" if Saddam was not already in court and getting prosecuted. All these people that went against Saddam only did it after realizing Saddam is not getting out. Other than that they are insignificant people that were at his feet at the time he was in power.
Saddam was a great leader with flaws, but again no leader is ever perfect.
