magicjack is a strip down version of phone service. it is not capable of sending or receiving any Fax transmissions. I had connected it to my fax machine but it did not work their customer service is not able to offer any help at this time . after about 2 years they still cannot transfer my phone number.

Magicjack is a true scam. Not the product itself, but the organization behind the product. It operates off yearly services. This is where the scamming takes place. The prices are very attractive. They are allowed to advertise freely their prices via their own product when ur using it. The company is banking on you going silly happy over all of its various services that you'll start ordering these YEARLY services. IF you ever call to cancel,...they will.  But you will never see a refund.

My mother was trying to reup her yearly use of magic jack 4 months ago. She was hit with so many ads and pop down scroll menus tryig to get her to subscribe to a 5yr plan,..that she screwed up her order and got it. When relaying this info to magicjack VIA CHAT,..they simply gave her the dumb treatment by passing her around (prolly to the same rep,..just different user names). She called 5 times to no avail. Just found out they canceled the service. But will not refund her money.

the average house hold has at least three phones that means three PC, three magic jack and you must at least keep one of them ON to receive the incoming calls. So a family of 4 that would be insane just to wait for the other one to finish his call unless they all have they own personal PC with Magic jack. Maybe there's a way to jack three wireless phones with a connector into Magic jack, if not this more suitable for people who own a business or living by themselves. 3.5/5

Pretty easy to do. You'd need to run a phone cord from the MagicJack into one of the jacks in your home. Once you've done that, just trace the wiring form that jack box back to where the lines come in your house (usually near the breaker box) Untie all the lines from the main line that goes outside and than retie them with the line you had traced from your MagicJack. All your phone jacks in your home are now connected from 1 computer & 1 MagicJack.

You should note that phone lines carry a small, but not harmful electric current (thats what makes the dial tone and voices). The USB port that powers the MagicJack will provide enough as long as it's a powered USB port (not one on your keyboard or something)

I just bought a magicjack from Radio Shack today. It works better than I expected. The audio is clearer than any phone I have ever used (LAN line, other VOIP, cell phone, etc). I use Vonage along with 5 cordless phones hooked up and I cannot tell a difference in quality opposed to traditional phone services . I dont think I would get a magic jack for the reason of a computer that it is attached to has to constantly running . I've never had any problems with vonage plus i can call anywhere in the world except third world countries for the basic subscription of 27 bux so to me Vonage is clearly the winner of VOIP services thanks Chris for the review !!
