  • I think the fume disappears a bit to fast. But anyway, very realistic!

  • perfect... just need to make the smoke last longer, then it would be the real thing

  • how long did it take you to learn how to do just that?

  • wow! that's cool.

  • Thank you! I really need to work on something new.

  • niiiceeee

  • awesome

  • I have a problem before when I created fire, it cast shadows, not now!, anyone know if it's a bug or something? I use v-ray

  • Are you making sure that you add the lights to the illumination tab?

  • Yeah, this is very realistic. Nice job!

  • Wow, very realistic, congrats

  • WOW! that's just awesome!

    looks very realistic!!

  • Wow, that's pretty awesome effect!

Could u plz tell me how did you make the fire illuminate its surroundings? It would be very helpful, thanks.

  • TOO BLOODY SHORT!

  • Definitely, I was still pretty new to FumeFX back then and my computer at the time was slow! I'm hoping to have a new (longer) video up in the near future.

  • Have you used particle source or simple source?

  • yeah they are lol. but you have to remember that the simulation probably took 1 hour and rendering probably 30 mins

  • all the best are.

  • Never mind i got to pay for it lol

  • Srry but is FumeFX a plugin u got to download? srry for asking because i got a tut on how to use it (FumeFX) plz GET BACK TO ME :)

  • I ask to my self, is it really possible do a thing like that on a computer? xD

  • you should hace made the smoke more black, and the flame a little bit darker.

    Still very nice=D

  • but it's to dark, he would need increase ilumination of the room, but one of the cool things of this animation is how the fire lights the room, and the color of the smoke is nice to mee =D

  • looks like a torcher chamber lol

  • how do you get that program

  • Just wondering, about how long did that take to render?

  • I remember it taking about an hour for each pass. The Global Illumination and the standard scene itself. So about 2 hours or so. At the time my computer was pretty slow.

  • @ryonie47 so todays' computer would take maybe 30 minutes since the video is real short less than 100 frames ( or the default for 3ds max)

  • @quangluu96 I have an I7 2600 / 8GB / 2x N560 GTX ti-hawk ... so im hoping it doesnt take that long :( im using fumeFX ATM :P

  • @stepxunit fumefx is CPU render and ram, ur should take less than 20 minutes simulating.

  • where do you place the plugin?

  • Do you mean the actual plug in files or where did I place the FumeFx daemon in my scene?

  • the plug in files

  • Amazing, do you work with any of the other plugins as well?

  • Well my favorite has been FumeFX. Lately I've been mainly using rendering plugins just trying to find the right one to use in my pipeline of work. Although I'm looking forward to trying RayFire for debris and shattering of objects. Thanks for comment.

  • Yep, great. Magnificent.

  • Great!

  • Too bad this plug in does not work with maya

  • Totally agree.

  • is maya better than 3d studio max?

  • That's a hard one to answer. I've seen great work on both. I guess it really depends on what works best for you and which toolset you're comfortable with. I really do wish fumefx was available for maya though.

  • aha.

did you create the flame with a object, or a particle system?

  • I'll 3rd that.

  • Could you make a tutorial on this. Thanks

  • amazing, well done!

  • just curious, how long did the calculations take for that and what was the resolution of the container? How many render passes were used? Fantastic job by the way.

  • There was really only 2 render passes. 1 being the GI and the other rendering the scene and each took about 30 minutes. The spacing i used was 3 and the size was 24x24x24. So you can actually get away with some pretty low quality settings and get away with something that looks fairly believable. I would suggest using FinalRender. It really did a good job on the lighting. Thanks so much for the comments.

  • Dude that is by far the best flame render I have seen on youtube, well anywhere on the net actually. I have been playing around with FFX myself and it is just mind boggling! I wish I could get my animations as real as that, well done man. Looks pukka :D

  • That looks so real!

  • You mean GI calculates separately from the scene? 1 hour, for how many frames? I'll wait for your next data :)

  • Well you don't have to render them seperately, but it takes a lot longer if you don't. This was only 100 frames long. Just your standard max scene. For quickflame 3.0 I'm using the new thinking particles. Which seems to work really good with FumeFx so far. I'm hoping to have something by the end of the month. I'll post how long it took for rendering.

  • How long does this GI takes to render with FR? I'm considering it, if it's FFX GI is fast.

  • If i remember correctly it took about an hour to render the GI and then about 20 minutes to render the actual scene. I didn't need to go for such a high quality since i knew I was going to post it on YouTube. I'm making QuickFlame 3.0 and I should be able to give you more accurate numbers once I finish that one up.

  • Woah! That looks really awesome and real!

  • Really Vid! Im just making a course with allan Mckay about Fumefx. I appreciate alot your god job. this its only a fumefxemitter or you drive it with Pflow?

  • First off Thank you for the comment. This scene was actually created with a simple Super Spray particle emitter. With 2 wind modifiers. With a bit of turbulence. The FumeFX container was the real champ here. Just had to set the radius to 5 (or 8) and that creates more of a fluid motion. Also had to increase my particle size to 4. You'll have to mess with your temperature settings a bit and smoke. Once again thanks for the comments.

  • Hey man, any way you can post that tutorial, or at least help me out real quick?

I'm using the Super Spray, and I am trying to make the spray more realistic (like yours). What options did you change within the FumeFX UI box? Radius Size? Temperature? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • heey dude.. could ya hook us fumefx lovers with some good tutorials in getting fumefx AND particle systems to interact.. cauz i have no clue... or at least could ya repsond with just a quick guide on the steps ya done?

  • Alright guys. I'm going to do my best for a tutorial. We'll see how that works out. I haven't been using fumeFx as much as i used to, but i'll get something together in a pdf and post it on my website, when I get a chance.

  • that will be very cool, just post us in when uve got it done.. muchhhhh appriciated, believe me there is nothing out there !

  • Sounds great. I also noticed there was nothing out there for it. FumeFX is a cool program once you understand the concept behind it. It's just learning that concept with no help is quite the challenge. One good thing to remember is when you are using your particle systems with FumeFX, alot of it has to do with the size of your particles within the FumeFX container. Keep that in mind, because you might end up with little fireballs when you're trying to make a flame.

  • hehhee yerr i can picture ur point!

i already knwo the basics in using fumefx, ive read and tried alot of the current fumefx tuts out there, particle but produce much better results, like ur flamethrower (ps: only 15 and already do alot of 3ds max projects)mmm 7,777 views for ur flamethrower,.. lol nice number ooh and do u rlly need final render? cauz i use vray adv and get rlly top results

  • ok from what i hear you can use Vray. I just don't know it very well. I would think as long as you have Global Illumination it should work. I just hear it takes a long time to render. With final render you can render GI alone. Can you do that in VRay? If you can that's a huge benefit because it cuts your render times in half.

  • well firstly im not sure what is "GI" ill give ya an example of what i was trying out yesterday: i made typical fumefx scene.. ball moving across a camera, with fumefx applied to it, spacing SET TO 0.7 for good details, and some wind i pre-rendered the fumefx and it took over 1000 megs of memory and it was only at frame 30, and average time of about 4/7 min per. fmefx ran out of memory. Siigh but still u get the picture of my rendering time now? & that just the Prerender fumefx

  • damn, nice. You pros should make tutorials for passionate newbs like me :P

  • Is it possible to use VRay with FumeFX?

  • That's a good question. I just read that there is a way to do it. I've never used VRay. I'm guessing though as long as you have Global Illumination settings, it should work. Let me know if it works out for you.

  • Well i'm using FumeFX with Vray.

If you want the fire to actually produce light, you should have, as you said, Global Illumination on, which makes render times really long.

  • Definitely the downside to rendering Global Illumination. Unless of course you have a really nice computer, which I do not have :). Just alot of patience. The one good thing about FinalRender is the ability to render the GI seperately. Is it possible with VRay as well? I found that to cut rendertime in half.

  • That is really awesome man. I so want to get finalRender Stage-1 R2. keep more cool effects coming mate.

  • Thanks for the comment. Final render is a must. It's just too much of a pain to get the lighting right when you're making fire without it. I'm hoping to do more effects in the near future. Thanks again.

  • I was wondering where i can get final render? did you buy yours? or get it from net? (if this is a personal question, dont worry about it) but, i just cant find it on the net to download...if you know how to get it, or can tell me where you got yours from, that wod be great man. thanks.

  • Would you please explain how did you "Blow" the fire to some direction?

  • Hey There Street. I used a particle system at a 90 degree angle, but also used 2 wind modifiers that made it seem more random than just straight flames. I was kinda amazed that it ended up looking this way.

  • wonderful!

  • I Used finalRender Stage-1 R2 plug-in for 3dsMax 9. Thanks for the comments.

  • light effect is very cool do you use external render ??

  • Nice but I agree with "Lassjus". Scene light fade fast too.

  • Definitely correct on that. It was my first time using Global Illumination with FumeFX. I'm still trying to get a little more comfortable using it.

  • dammm :O

  • Wow! really good. I think the smoke is dissapearing a little too fast though.

  • Thanks for the comments. I'll have a revised version coming soon. I'm working on the fire leaving marks on the wall. I just need to make a texture for it.

  • Cool. Looking forward to see it. I think you are the first one thinking this far, while everyone else is only thinking about the fume effect it self, and thats cool!

  • Absolutely awesome looking !!!
