Think about the psychology of the entertainment industry. They create an image here for the boys of an identification/attachment to the singer. In this case, "Gee, she likes boys, could she like me?" You find out, "Nah, it's all show- she's a lesbo." It's not unlike a minister's image being shot when it's found out he's having a fling with someone he's counseled. Entertainers need to think more about living up to whatever image they are portraying, or risk damage to their careers.

And how do you define homophobia, the natural revulsion one feels toward a form of perversion? Or what it really is; a "thought crime." Homosexuality was correctly declassified as an illness in 1973. People are truly born that way. Homophobia is the true "thought crime", not homosexuality. In 2000, the American Psychiatric Association said that no study that pointed to a specific biological cause had ever been replicated. The American Psychological Association has stated that it is really a product of a complex interaction of biological, psychological and social factors going back to early childhood. That is probably the best summary of the scientific literature.

@elvela88 According to Wikipedia, yes, Quincy Jones produced it. They went through 200 demos. On hearing "It's My Party" Gore told Jones: "That's not half bad. I like it. Good melody. Let's put it on the maybe pile." The song proved to be the only demo Gore and Jones found agreeable. With Jones producing and Claus Ogerman handling arranging and conducting duties, Gore recorded "It's My Party" at Bell Sound Studios in Manhattan on 30 March 1963.[4][5]

I remember lots of women wearing hair like that. I wasn't a teen until 1970, so I first heard this on KRTH 101.1 or on KRLA with Art Laboe about 1975 or so. Music in the first half of the 60's sounds better than the last half.
