  • Me too MarciusSim, I get tickled when Rob yells HAMBONE when a bowler gets 4 strikes in a row, when I know a bowler has a good shot and all ten pins are about to fall, I say uh-oh, here it comes, my favorite part of 4 strikes in a row. :)

  • Every single shot Doug threw was followed by some guy in the crowd who almost sounded like he was mocking Doug.

  • Rob Stone is an embarrassment. His comments are ridiculous and they make the sport looks really foolish. Thanks ESPN for giving us Mr. Moron.

Lets not forget that only bowlers watch bowling.

  • The telecasts back in the 70's and 80s were classic, however those days are gone. Ratings went into the toilet and bowling lost a lot of popularity. I think Rob Stone and Randy Pedersen are an entertaining combo and ESPN made the right move bringing in Rob. Hambone and Yatzee are great. When PDW told Rob, after a 4 bagger, that he had his hambone right here and then did the crotch chop, I about fell out of my chair. They also did a great job with the 2009 King of Bowling broadcast.

  • I started bowling when I was 4 I am now 28, and I for one LOVE the HAMBONE, it makes watching bowling fun, I used to watch it in the 80's and 90's and it put me to sleep. The HAMBONE and YATZEE has made bowling fun again.

  • Not surprising as he still seems a bit late.

  • 160??? Holy smoke! I can't remember the last time I saw a pro suck that hard on TV! I guess it's not just us blue chip league bowlers who have bad days now and then. Just for the record, I like yelling Hambone. I yell Hambone and Yahtzee all the time whenever my team and I roll and the opportunity presents itself. It's just a fun and catchy thing to do. I don't see what the big deal is.

  • dude i dont think you can even make it to 100 on the us open oil pattern, at least doug can make it to tv, i dont see you on tv for the past 66 us opens...

  • Yikes...if hambone is supposed to act as some sort of popularity mechanism for the benefit of the PBA, well, the tour may as well just fold right at this very moment.

How dreadful to think that the PBA could possibly be so desperate for such an awful lifeline...

At this rate, even Jim Kelly and every one of his lame, recycled golfing analogies seem rather appealing by comparison.

  • well,i just wanna point my view.

we are mere people in a bowling community.

why do we not like " hambone " so much ?.

If the PROs dont mind it,why should we?.

If anyone asked who came up with "turkey" or why 3 strikes is called a turkey, could u guys answer?.

At least when someone asks about the hambone,we know a little bit of the HISTORY of the HAMBONE.

    enjoy the game guys

    - cheers -

  • Yaeh, because in the old days you would get a turkey for 3 strikes.

    Everyone knows that

  • And for the love of god, let's us "true bowling fans" take our thumbs out of our butts. This is a sport with a beer frame, a "turkey", and some of the goofiest equipment in any sport(the big metal wristguard, anyone?) If something can make bowling popular and the guys on tour can enjoy it, why can't we?

  • C'mon guys, there's nothing wrong with hambone. Me and my guys like it and besides, it's like hating on Norm for the fist pump or when the guys talk to the camera, or when Patrick Allen screamed "Ten!" At the end of the day, it's just bowling.

  • does the mechanic want his hand broken...dumbass

  • Hey wolfman why you didnt upload the geico open you own us that

  • no I don't. It's already up if you actually searched for it.

  • I think hambone actually came from the phrase "Hated Announcer Makes Bowling's Only Negative Expression".... and why didn't Kent change into his superman costume (or do I have him mixed up with another guy?) anyway thanks from Holland for the upload..

  • Hey hambone haters, get over yourselves. Stop taking everything so seriously. The only thing the hambone did to bowling was make it more popular. And if you want to continue seeing the PBA on tv, I'd be embracing it.

  • That's the sad thing. I like the fact that the PBA is popular but knowing how some announcer that ESPN hired that knows nothing about bowling made up a term that made this sport more popular made me really wonder what direction bowling is going in. Next thing you know, 8 strikes in a row will be called "T-Bones"

  • I hear ya, just know that Rob Stone isn't just some guy ESPN hired, he has a long history of excellent sports commentating with ESPN, he knows what he is doing. And give the guy some credit, he does his research, he had no clue what he was talking about in week 1, but he's in the game now, and he clearly has a vested interest in the progress of bowling. I have liked him much more from day 1. Don't tell me you want boring Dave Ryan back, he makes Rob Stone look like Pedersen times 100.

  • Loosen up guys. You can take the sport seriously and still have fun.

  • What's wrong with the Hambone? I don't see anything wrong with it.

  • It's because 4-bagger is the established term, and you have some commentator making up his own terminology for a sport with established vernacular. Take any sport you enjoy, say football, and imagine you had to listen to only one commentator all the time, changing the established terms. He decides a "half-back pass" should be called a "super sneaky" and calls it that every time a team does the play. See why it gets under the skin of those who love the game now?

  • I love the game and I still don't mind the hambone. Besides I think the hambone sounds better than a 4-bagger.

  • Fair enough. What gets under my skin may not bother another person. I can accept that. I guess I also just don't care for the total randomness either. "Turkey" was established as a term for a reason. "Hambone" has no meaning whatsoever and was just conjured up by Stone. But again, what bothers me may not bother someone else, and all our differences make life interesting.

  • oh dont worry, most bowling fans hate hambone too...the guy is a loser

  • actually I know alot more bowling fans that like the hambone, than those that don't.

  • Too funny to see them sit Barnes on the kiddie chair... lol He was still almost eye to eye with Stone.

  • Go hambone

  • Thanx Wolf, nice post!!
