I find this video easily believable. I'd even believe that the car is almost 100% stock (would need to have a tune to get rid of the speed limiter). I had my S/C Monte at 126 mph bone stock and it still had a bit left so I have no doubt that a 300+hp V8 is capable of 150+mph in an Impala.
At 5500 it's doing 140 which calculated correctly with the stock 3.08 gears and tires, in third (direct) gear. It looks like he just made it to 5800 which is 153mph, so yes the speedo stops reading at 140.
QUESTION IS: 1. Is this car all stock? The stock SS pulls to 5800? 2. If you had shifted to overdrive, would it keep pulling in 4th (OD), or would it actually go faster in third? I hope someone with a stock SS that has tried both can answer. Thanks.

@sarahl4120 It clearly say MPH in the center of the speedometer, the newer Chevy's let you change the display from one to the other, but that's not on Km/H...
For everyone saying not 150+ the speedo was pinned at 140 and his RPMs keep going up, that is how he got to 150+, he probably had a GPS or something else telling him his exact speed.

@78busa Hell, my '02's service traction light came on and replacing the wheel speed sensors and ABS sensors didn't do the trick. Come to find out, it was the MAF sensor that was bad.

@ibold1000 i out ran a mustang gt and a gto through a '1000 ft dragstrip if u can believe it. I also got beat by a gt because i spun a little off the line. In my wife's 08 impala ss. you can see it on prescott raceway impala vrs gt i think. also i've got a 140mph run on impala at 140 both on youtube.
It's clear at 0:49, the tach is reading about 4400 RPM. My hearing sucks. But you can clearly see from 0:54 to 0:55, that the car decelerates at a rate of about 10 mph/sec. Anyone who has had physics knows, as the speed decreases, the deceleration rate also decreases. Less effort to maintain a slower speed, etc. Due to my inadequate hearing, I can't tell when acceleration stopped, but clearly the car was over 150 given the upshift - 2-3 mph/100 rpm in OD easily past 140 from upshift.
@Thilindel Finally, someone else besides myself who understands the laws of Physics. People always assume that a car can only do what is on the dash. Maybe the design only allows a display of 140 MPH because of the information center in the speedometer cluster, hmmmm. Anyway, my truck indicates 120 MPH, but will not do past 107 MPH because of the limiter. Nice post Thilindel, very nice explanation... '86 Mustang GT says 85MPH, and we all know that they will were running 130+ from the dealer.

I have owned my '06 SS for about 3 years now. I am really starting to regret buying it. The fit and finish is horrible. The sunvisors are too small, their is a clicking sound that comes on sometimes from the dash when the AC is on, Hood Open sign comes on when it is actually closed, and all kinds of gremlins. The ONLY thing good about these cars is the LS4 5.3 V8, that's it, Period!!! Trading it ASAP!!! Oh, it only has 45,000 miles with regular synthetic maintenance. This car sux, real bad :-(
@dlfranklin yea they do suck my bro has one going on third trans. had to comment cause he had the same clicking noise it was some kind of solenoid or something that controls the fresh air flap to a/c or some shit... factory warrenty fixed it. his was bad and was annoying as hell. he also has probs with tire montering system telling him he has no air in tires when he does. he also hates it and is tradin the bitch in pronto @ 61,000
@JPARKERZ28 Possibly the worst car that GM has built. And get this, I called the dealer today and gave them my vin number, and according to them, there are no open recalls on the impalas. @dlfranklin if you have problems with heat while idle at red light or something, air pocket in coolant. same problem also trans blew out on me, so check your trans fluid. if its dark brown, its burnt up or oil is some how leaking into the system. look for coolant leaks to. car had that, engine was rebuilt
@smitty446 I havn't had any overheating issue "knock on wood", but I check all the fluids on a regular basis. I will take your advise on the trans fluid though. Matter of fact, I am going into the garage to check it now. The rotors may very well be warped like you said, I thought about that, and had them checked, but according to dealer, they are fine. I just waisted $1,500 (new Perilli P Zero tires and a Magnaflow exhaust), because we are trading the car in ASAP.

@milo814 The clicking noise is embarrassing when you have guests in the car. Oh, and when you go over certain bumps in the road, there is a wierd popping noise from the rear suspension that sounds like a worn bushing or something. The side view mirrors are too small also. Twice while taking off from a stop, the transmission kinda slipped for a couple seconds before catching properly to take off. The front seats are like sitting on a park bench (wrong seats for an SS). The brakes vibrate from 70+
@dlfranklin i still like the car but the clicking sound is irritating. it's really faint but it can definitely be heard. the side mirrors are too small. i had that same sound coming from the back. i dont remember what it was but they fixed it for me. i have had that happen with the trans in winter time or when the road is dusty/dirty where the car almost forces itself into 2nd car too soon which is annoying lol
@smitty446 that's no good! i think my fluid was recently flushed and replaced at 32K when i brought it in. i pray to god it holds up cause i just bought a CAI and exhaust which will most likely void the warranty. if the trans were to blow, i'll quickly put the factory equip back on lol
@smitty446 Just had the transmission serviced and had all four rotors resurfaced. The vibration from the brakes has stopped. For now. But I still hate this damn car, lol. Oh, and the dealer replaced the battery with a new heavy duty AC Delco because they said that it was not holding a proper charge. Funny, cause it was fine to me with no issues, but oh well. 3rd battery since 2007, WTF!!!!!

This car was ment to go fast in a straight line, nothing more. I hate my '06 SS. I never miss a service schedule, only use premium gas, and only use mobil 1 synthetic oil, perelli tires, weekly detail, wax every three months, and this thing still shows no appreciation for the pampering. STAY AWAY PLEASE!
@dlfranklin What do you expect. None of the things you mentioned will help handling, lol. Add a handling kit and aftermarket suspension. Oh you said you use premium - Did you tune for that?
@narb182 Well the owner's manual recommends premium fuel, but it isn't required. But the premium fuel will allow you to get the full 303HP and fuel mileage from the 5.3, supposedly, so no tune is required to run premium fuel. I have owned a few high performance cars in the past (BMW, Mercedes), so I understand handling and quality. The Impala SS has non of those traits. By the way, would you like to buy it from me $11,000, lol. The wife wants a real performance sedan, back to a BMW 550 or 750.
@narb182 Also, this is an SS (Super Sport). I shouldn't have to upgrade all kinds of stuff to make it handle well. Super Sport should mean just that. You should drive one everyday for a couple of months to understand why myself and other owners hate this car and regret buying it. Everyone always comment and say "wow, nice car they are bad to the bone", and I just tell them not to believe the hype. It may be the fastes Impala SS built, but it is the worst also.

@smitty446 yeah i would imagine, i was looking into these and bonneville gxp's and havent heard anything good about their trans,they are good trans but not for 275hp+ engines. i think that for someone with a heavy foot just better get a rwd or an import v6 because the performance V8's from america's transmissions have not been able to hold up to the 300 hp of these engines....

While I'll give the Nissan Maxima props and for a lil 6 banger they are pretty decent, ya happen to run up against a driver that couldn't launch the imp or just didn't feel like pushing it that day. off the line no traction except if ya know how to drive it and if ya did a 40-50 roll vs one that isn't tuned it will bog itself to death in 2nd gear.

One way to tell exactly how fast your going is to set it on average speed and keep hitting your reset button. I too have an 08 impala ss and that's how i did it. John number three ss at 140. i figured this out after i made the video. saw 150 by resetting it every few seconds and it was still climbing.

@madwestboy the speedometer has no bearing on which car is faster. The crown vic with the interceptor package will only run 137 because it's rev limited. I'm not sure how fast the bonneville will run i'm just not familiar with its performance. Sorry i can't help you.

@BOB24502 i guess it depends on who's behind the wheel. i recently raced a 2004 nissan maxima in my ss and won by about 1.5 car length. are you sure it wasn't an LTZ? The LTZ's do 0-60 in about 7-7.5 and a high 15 sec 1/4.

I just bought n 06 impala SS n i love it the LS4 is a great motor! Granted i think it was dumb making it FWD but its still quick as hell and runs like a champ! Great vid bro!
@bigtyme20 I agree whith the FWD wish it was RWD. I drove a new mustang gt in 06 and i finally got it up to 140 after redlining it in every gear. It advertised 300 hp while our 08 impala advertises 303 and will definitely get there faster through the 1/4 mile or top end. But i still wish it were a RWD.

@mixerda83 I have a 06 Impala SS mainly because it's a cheap luxury car that has some "sporty" look to it. It doesn't weigh 3800 (I wish) its 4900 :/ And it will still get a decent amount of cars out there. No newer car is a muscle car anymore. Impala SS is just a silverado motor - 2000LBS. :/
ya might wanna learn the concept that as a cars RPM increases the tires spin at a faster rate, this equates to further travel over time thus meaning a higher MPH rate.
my speedo stops at 140, if you cant figure this out ya might need a vision check, my rpm doesn't stop when my speedo stops. I hit 140 roughly around 5300-5400, I upshift at almost 5800 or roughly 144-145mph. RPM's drop to close to 4200 rise to almost 4500
just stating the obvious that you either don't know how the automotive world works or are just a blind/def person as visually you can see my tach rise up and audio would provide evidence that my motors RPM's are rising after I have hit 140 unlike your claim of "Looked like barely 140. " I provide fact and proof that my videos title is correct in 150+

@trent1234108 FYI - Teletubbies is for the kids, but no minivan. I have an SS and it's nothing but a slightly faster then usual grocery getter. Now my Super Snake, now that is a real car, not this Impala - Really, my F-350 diesel pick-up is more exciting then the Impala is, but ultimately the wife enjoys the car so if she is happy, then so am I.
@GETRDUN in all honesty I would prefer a f350 deisel as well. Love the feeling of deisel power, especially a ford. I myself drive an f150. But my impala ss is certainly not just a little faster than a grocery getter. Driving today I gave it about 3/4 pedal down and burnt out when I as already going 20. Also hit 50 on about 2/3 o a city block.
@GETRDUN R u serious? After letting off the gas, it took several seconds to slow down below 140, because that's the mechanical stop of the speedometer. Anyone could extrapolate that beyond that, given negative acceleration, that he easily was beyond 150. Just look at the 140 to 130 drop once it was slowed to where the speedometer registered.
LoL did you not notice that when he hit 140mph,WHICH IS THE MOST THAT CLUSTER READS,the RPM's kept going and the needle for the MPH just stayed @ the 140mph mark on the cluster. N u can still hear the motor in the background EVEN when he started slowing down or let off the gas. He was putting the traction control back on and that should let you know that he is hitting over 140mph. I can hit it in my SS too so I know this is not bullshyt. It's a LS MOTOR! DO U FAIL TO REALIZE THAT?!

It's kinda a buzz kill when the speedo won't let you know how fast you're going even though you KNOW you're going above the advertised speed. Great video. I drove one of these at a local Chevy dealership after driving a Cobalt SS, and I believe that the Cobalt will eat the Impala.

governer removed now yes, back when vid was shot no. I think I had my 3" cat back exhaust on when I shot this vid not to sure but was just exhaust and K&N CAI none of the major work was done till blew the motor.

I have a 2008 impala ss. You can check it out on my "Stunting Hard Performance" video. Let me tell you guys all about it. Front to back. Don't get me wrong, I love my SS. It is fast, sounds great(40 series flowmaster), and kicks ass!!! It true about the tranny. It seems to slip sometimes from a standstill. It makes an annoying clicking sound as it changes from 8cyl to 4cyl mode. It has a rough ride. My air bag lights comes on also. I don't want to trade it but I am getting very close to trading.

@ibold1000 i out ran a mustang gt and a gto through a '1000 ft dragstrip if u can believe it. I also got beat by a gt because i spun a little off the line. In my wife's 08 impala ss. you can see it on prescott raceway impala vrs gt i think. also i've got a 140mph run on impala at 140 both on youtube.

It's clear at 0:49, the tach is reading about 4400 RPM. My hearing sucks. But you can clearly see from 0:54 to 0:55, that the car decelerates at a rate of about 10 mph/sec. Anyone who has had physics knows, as the speed decreases, the deceleration rate also decreases. Less effort to maintain a slower speed, etc. Due to my inadequate hearing, I can't tell when acceleration stopped, but clearly the car was over 150 given the upshift - 2-3 mph/100 rpm in OD easily past 140 from upshift.

@Thilindel Finally, someone else besides myself who understands the laws of Physics. People always assume that a car can only do what is on the dash. Maybe the design only allows a display of 140 MPH because of the information center in the speedometer cluster, hmmmm. Anyway, my truck indicates 120 MPH, but will not do past 107 MPH because of the limiter. Nice post Thilindel, very nice explanation... '86 Mustang GT says 85MPH, and we all know that they will were running 130+ from the dealer.

@1985TA355 Yep, as I sit and read posts from people, I really see that not everyone who comments on these youtube videos know anything about cars. Alot of people think they are, but are not. I hate it when comments are posted from people who are ignorant to the automotive world. I grew up under the hood and spent my time with my uncles as they were replacing engines or rebuilding them, while my other cousins were running around playing and riding bicycles. Automobiles are my passion.

I have owned my '06 SS for about 3 years now. I am really starting to regret buying it. The fit and finish is horrible. The sunvisors are too small, their is a clicking sound that comes on sometimes from the dash when the AC is on, Hood Open sign comes on when it is actually closed, and all kinds of gremlins. The ONLY thing good about these cars is the LS4 5.3 V8, that's it, Period!!! Trading it ASAP!!! Oh, it only has 45,000 miles with regular synthetic maintenance. This car sux, real bad :-(

@dlfranklin yea they do suck my bro has one going on third trans. had to comment cause he had the same clicking noise it was some kind of solenoid or something that controls the fresh air flap to a/c or some shit... factory warrenty fixed it. his was bad and was annoying as hell. he also has probs with tire montering system telling him he has no air in tires when he does. he also hates it and is tradin the bitch in pronto @ 61,000

@JPARKERZ28 Possibly the worst car that GM has built. And get this, I called the dealer today and gave them my vin number, and according to them, there are no open recalls on the impalas. But everyone seems to have the exact same problems, WTF!!! Someone needs to do something about this. I mean, EVERYONE who owns one is experiancing the same issues. I hate to say it, but I am going back to BMW, should have never sold my old bimmer. I tried to keep it American made, but, come on GM, WTF!!!!!!!

@dlfranklin if you have problems with heat while idle at red light or something, air pocket in coolant. same problem also trans blew out on me, so check your trans fluid. if its dark brown, its burnt up or oil is some how leaking into the system. look for coolant leaks to. car had that, engine was rebuilt

@smitty446 I havn't had any overheating issue "knock on wood", but I check all the fluids on a regular basis. I will take your advise on the trans fluid though. Matter of fact, I am going into the garage to check it now. The rotors may very well be warped like you said, I thought about that, and had them checked, but according to dealer, they are fine. I just waisted $1,500 (new Perilli P Zero tires and a Magnaflow exhaust), because we are trading the car in ASAP.

@milo814 The clicking noise is embarrassing when you have guests in the car. Oh, and when you go over certain bumps in the road, there is a wierd popping noise from the rear suspension that sounds like a worn bushing or something. The side view mirrors are too small also. Twice while taking off from a stop, the transmission kinda slipped for a couple seconds before catching properly to take off. The front seats are like sitting on a park bench (wrong seats for an SS). The brakes vibrate from 70+

@dlfranklin i still like the car but the clicking sound is irritating. it's really faint but it can definitely be heard. the side mirrors are too small. i had that same sound coming from the back. i dont remember what it was but they fixed it for me. i have had that happen with the trans in winter time or when the road is dusty/dirty where the car almost forces itself into 2nd car too soon which is annoying lol

@smitty446 that's no good! i think my fluid was recently flushed and replaced at 32K when i brought it in. i pray to god it holds up cause i just bought a CAI and exhaust which will most likely void the warranty. if the trans were to blow, i'll quickly put the factory equip back on lol

@smitty446 Just had the transmission serviced and had all four rotors resurfaced. The vibration from the brakes has stopped. For now. But I still hate this damn car, lol. Oh, and the dealer replaced the battery with a new heavy duty AC Delco because they said that it was not holding a proper charge. Funny, cause it was fine to me with no issues, but oh well. 3rd battery since 2007, WTF!!!!!

@homegrownxxx Dude stay away from this car. This is the worst car I ever bought (besides a '93 mazda 626 ES I bought in 1997). Man, don't let the high speed capability of the impala ss fool you. This car was ment to go fast in a straight line, nothing more. I hate my '06 SS. I never miss a service schedule, only use premium gas, and only use mobil 1 synthetic oil, perelli tires, weekly detail, wax every three months, and this thing still shows no appreciation for the pampering. STAY AWAY PLEASE!

@narb182 Well the owner's manual recommends premium fuel, but it isn't required. But the premium fuel will allow you to get the full 303HP and fuel mileage from the 5.3, supposedly, so no tune is required to run premium fuel. I have owned a few high performance cars in the past (BMW, Mercedes), so I understand handling and quality. The Impala SS has non of those traits. By the way, would you like to buy it from me $11,000, lol. The wife wants a real performance sedan, back to a BMW 550 or 750.

@narb182 Also, this is an SS (Super Sport). I shouldn't have to upgrade all kinds of stuff to make it handle well. Super Sport should mean just that. You should drive one everyday for a couple of months to understand why myself and other owners hate this car and regret buying it. Everyone always comment and say "wow, nice car they are bad to the bone", and I just tell them not to believe the hype. It may be the fastes Impala SS built, but it is the worst also.

While I'll give the Nissan Maxima props and for a lil 6 banger they are pretty decent, ya happen to run up against a driver that couldn't launch the imp or just didn't feel like pushing it that day. off the line no traction except if ya know how to drive it and if ya did a 40-50 roll vs one that isn't tuned it will bog itself to death in 2nd gear.

One way to tell exactly how fast your going is to set it on average speed and keep hitting your reset button. I too have an 08 impala ss and that's how i did it. John number three ss at 140. i figured this out after i made the video. saw 150 by resetting it every few seconds and it was still climbing.

@madwestboy the speedometer has no bearing on which car is faster. The crown vic with the interceptor package will only run 137 because it's rev limited. I'm not sure how fast the bonneville will run i'm just not familiar with its performance. Sorry i can't help you.

@BOB24502 i guess it depends on who's behind the wheel. i recently raced a 2004 nissan maxima in my ss and won by about 1.5 car length. are you sure it wasn't an LTZ? The LTZ's do 0-60 in about 7-7.5 and a high 15 sec 1/4.

check engine was part of the service traction where tranny is spazzing at those speeds
low tire pressure was caused because running the DR's which have no sensor pressure gauge in them
left upper light is traction control off
middle lower is fog lamps on
upper right was tire pressure

@bigtyme20 I agree whith the FWD wish it was RWD. I drove a new mustang gt in 06 and i finally got it up to 140 after redlining it in every gear. It advertised 300 hp while our 08 impala advertises 303 and will definitely get there faster through the 1/4 mile or top end. But i still wish it were a RWD.

@mixerda83 I have a 06 Impala SS mainly because it's a cheap luxury car that has some "sporty" look to it. It doesn't weigh 3800 (I wish) its 4900 :/ And it will still get a decent amount of cars out there. No newer car is a muscle car anymore. Impala SS is just a silverado motor - 2000LBS. :/

ya might wanna learn the concept that as a cars RPM increases the tires spin at a faster rate, this equates to further travel over time thus meaning a higher MPH rate.
my speedo stops at 140, if you cant figure this out ya might need a vision check, my rpm doesn't stop when my speedo stops. I hit 140 roughly around 5300-5400, I upshift at almost 5800 or roughly 144-145mph. RPM's drop to close to 4200 rise to almost 4500
math would prove I reach a speed close to 153

@GETRDUN in all honesty I would prefer a f350 deisel as well. Love the feeling of deisel power, especially a ford. I myself drive an f150. But my impala ss is certainly not just a little faster than a grocery getter. Driving today I gave it about 3/4 pedal down and burnt out when I as already going 20. Also hit 50 on about 2/3 o a city block.

@GETRDUN R u serious? After letting off the gas, it took several seconds to slow down below 140, because that's the mechanical stop of the speedometer. Anyone could extrapolate that beyond that, given negative acceleration, that he easily was beyond 150. Just look at the 140 to 130 drop once it was slowed to where the speedometer registered.

LoL did you not notice that when he hit 140mph,WHICH IS THE MOST THAT CLUSTER READS,the RPM's kept going and the needle for the MPH just stayed @ the 140mph mark on the cluster. N u can still hear the motor in the background EVEN when he started slowing down or let off the gas. He was putting the traction control back on and that should let you know that he is hitting over 140mph. I can hit it in my SS too so I know this is not bullshyt. It's a LS MOTOR! DO U FAIL TO REALIZE THAT?!

It's kinda a buzz kill when the speedo won't let you know how fast you're going even though you KNOW you're going above the advertised speed. Great video. I drove one of these at a local Chevy dealership after driving a Cobalt SS, and I believe that the Cobalt will eat the Impala.

@mixerda83 The Camry will get u off the line, no question. But as soon as it hits speed limiter it you will pass it.

@atlgltg In simple terms its a limiter from the computer that won't let u go any faster once you get to a certain speed. Yes, you can disable it.

lol 5mpg at 150 mph is pretty damn good btw. but u have balls my friend car is pretty smooth for 150. these cars are underated cuz everyone hates the fwd

governer removed now yes, back when vid was shot no. I think I had my 3" cat back exhaust on when I shot this vid not to sure but was just exhaust and K&N CAI none of the major work was done till blew the motor.

The SS models don't have a governor. They are limited only by horsepower. Only the LS, LT, and LTZ have a governor.

id love to race that in my Acura TL A-SPEC with my mods. why did they only build the car with a 4speed automatic and FWD? retarted not a bad car otherwise but damn chevy makes no sense sometimes.
