Bob Flanigan (R.I.P) told me in 2006 that Brian Wilsons dad took Brain to a Freshmen concert. H ewent back stage and met the origibal group and told his dad, "that's what I want to do, sing like that". So the Beach Boy harmonies are a direct result of the Four Freshmen, not an accident or a creation of theirs. But both groups had it tight! Love em both!
I believe the audience is laughing because those guys are just totally nailing it, like they do everything else. One of the things I find appealing with this group is they while they take their music seriously, they don't take themselves too seriously. I haven't gotten to see them live yet, but I will when I get the chance.
It's a little sad to hear the fun at the expense of the great Beach Boys, but those harmonies are sincerely sung and arranged. The other video I've seen pays deserved respect to Brian Wilson and the guys who always paid their respects to the talent of the Four Freshmen.
Great !! Why the snobbishness ? BW has brought many more new fans to the 4 Freshmen than could be counted. God Bless the 4Freshmen and The Beach Boys !
