  • greatest song by greatest band

  • "Eastern to Mountain, third-party call, the lines are down, the wise man built his words upon the rocks but I'm not bound to follow suit."

"The ocean sang, the conversation's dimmed. Go build yourself another dream, this choice isn't mine."

Two lines that have stuck with me, so profound, so brilliant--in one song, too!

  • Karalho pitibull e Youtube vão tomar no cu!!! Propaganddqdwda sdwchata!!!

  • Karalho pitibull e Youtube vão mar no cu!!! Propaganda chata!!!

  • rem my all time favourite band of all time

  • One of the finest basslines since Rubber Soul.

  • @ValveSpecial Well put.

  • they will be back.. stop crying...lol

  • I remember the first time I heard this song was them performing it live on David Letterman in the early 80's, I thought "Holy crap, what a great song!" Still love it to this day...

  • is this the Howard Libov vidoe?

  • Best American band ever. Easily.

  • @Schumitastic they are awesome, but i dont no about that,

  • Comment removed

  • R.E.M. & The Smiths, two great contribuitions to rock old school !

  • @paulonagao COULDN'T AGREE WITH YOU MORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Awesome song....

  • One person didn't accept Michael Stipe's apology.

  • R.I.P

    Return.If.Possible

    Rebirth.In.Progress

    .....so on

  • I always forget Micheal Stipe had hair!

  • Pizza pizza

  • saw them on "Reckoning" tour at club in Hartford, CT; two songs that stand out are this and "We Walk" - simply amazing, Stipe walking out w/flowers in his hair

  • Hard to believe a band with this much longevity and influence have retired. They definitely changed the industry forever.

  • They were great until 1987. Should have quit 24 years ago

  • his sweet blonde eyelashes......oh....

  • REM was my favorite group of the 1980's and this was the first song of theirs I ever heard.

  • Did you never call? I waited for your call..These rivers of suggestion are driving me away, the ocean sang, the conversation's dimmed, go build yourself another dream, this choice isnt mine... Perfection.

  • GREAT BAND! YOU'LL NEVER DIE! MISS YOU!!!

  • They played a version at the Spectrum sans Mills and Berry. When the chorus came around, at least half the house was singing, "I'm Sorry." What kind of a sing along was that. I guess they must have been sorry about something. A couple years later, I saw Elvis Costello touring behind "Spike." On "God's Comic," people were singing, "Now, I'm dead, Now I'm dead.." and Declan let them have it: your're singing along with this?...Everybody, Now I'm Dead..."

  • Reckoning was my favorite album of theirs. Still sounds great over two decades later.

  • @assmanistan ditto, first I heard and still best

  • he use to be cute, now he looks more like a terminal case

  • im crying

  • R.E.M. FOREVER

  • So long R.E.M. Thanks for all the great contributions to the soundtrack of my life.

  • Anyone have an idea why the piano is mixed so low?

  • REM rip..will be missed.

  • @kevsul47 REM will be there anytime the music feels your soul

  • @kevsul47

they will never be dead =)

well , until the apocalypse happens

  • I hate that I have to watch a stupid dog food commercial before this simple, yet amazing video for an excellent REM song.

  • Hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair Flow it, show it Long as God can grow it My hair Let it fly in the breeze And get caught in the trees Give a home to the fleas in my hair A home for fleas A hive for bees A nest for birds There ain't no words For the beauty, the splendor, the wonder Of my... Hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair Flow it, show it Long as God can grow it My hair

  • la mas poetica banda de todos los tiempos rem ya no hay bandas asi..mmmm

  • Canção fina demais esta do REM....

  • Hair today, gone tomorrow!

  • This one and "World Leader Pretend"... absolute classics.

  • @jmhaile I LOVE World Leader Pretend. Probably my favorite R.E.M tune, but it's so hard to choose!

  • Cracking song... :) Not interested in your shite .

  • Cracking song... :)

  • love hearing this one live.... great live track

  • Really? A commercial by Right Change, is that yet another group funded by the Koch brothers or some other corporate asswhipe? Really really dont like being bombarded by that kind of BS before enjoying one of REM's classics. : (

  • I'm sorry.....

  • The 1 person who disliked should be sorry.

  • When I was in High School I used to crank this album every morning while I was getting ready for school, a great start to the day!

  • @kurtieboy4 go away, nobody likes trolls such as you..

  • Extremely high quality track. In league with the greatest classic rock/pop.

  • this is the song that made me fall for rem all those years ago.......no one knew who i was on about then.

  • OH man, look at that old youngster, he still had hair LOL

  • Fuck you, Vevo. Bless you, R.EM.

  • boo no mobile video viewing

  • the greatest bisexual american love song ever written - a stunning masterpiece by the second best band of the 1980s...vocal, bassline, timing, percussion and guitar-playing couldn't be bettered. simple, clean production and a wonderful backing vocal from mills...

  • @uclrichard If REM are number 2 who's the best band of the 80's? the Pixies, right

  • do these vevo videos ever play?

  • He actually looks kinda hot in this video

  • besides having a groovy drummer, this was back when they gave a toss and had to sing for their dinner. Now it's painful to watch them struggle to stand under the weight of the repetitive boring shit that comes out of their amps. Hey guys - new years eve has come and gone. Throw in towel and another band a chance.

  • The music is a backing track. But Michael Stipe is singing it live. Great for him! And us!

  • 1 person isn't sorry

  • this is my favorite too

  • Adoro questa canzone e questo video. Ascoltate come i REM hanno influenzato la musica di questo musicista. geometrieascensionali.it

  • Its been my favorite song for as long as I can remember. Thanks.

  • Stipe's howl of remorse and pain at the end is one of the most moving wordless utterances in recorded music.

  • their best

  • This is my favorite REM song because it's so complex. That bass line bops along nicely, and that keyboard has a happy sound in the midst of a sad song. I also love the choice of words for this familiar theme. This lovely composition is contemporary enough to where it would make for an interesting country-western song.

  • vevo sux dog balls

  • It hurts to see the video of this beautiful song and have a Justin Bieber's ad in the background...

  • Stipe refused to lip-sync for the video, it's why there's different vocals in the song :)

  • one of a bunch of great tracks off a great album.

  • great song. love the verses.

  • Haha...classic video. I love how people are commenting on the fact that Stipe has hair. I remember him more with hair than without. I'm old lol

  • @amuskindu Yeah, I remember him with hair too...but funnily enough, I look at this video, and it looks like he is wearing an ill fitting wig, because his hairline is so far back on his forehead.

  • @amuskindu If you're old why are using lol?, language that should be relegated to preteens.

  • @amuskindu I think he would still have hair if he could. He started to seriously bald in the late 80's. It's not the appearance that matter with REM. It's the great music that will live on and on

  • @amuskindu i saw michael and rem not only when he had hair but when only 10 people showed up to see the band play at the Night Flight in Savannah, GA....hahaha i am old too!

  • @amuskindu i saw michael not only when he had hair but when only 10 people showed up to see the band play at the Night Flight in Savannah, GA....hahaha i am old too!

  • @amuskindu Mad isn't it. He once had the most hair in R.E.M and than was the one in the band with no hair.

  • @amuskindu We`re not old dude, We`re the generation of AWSOME! ...O.k you`re right-we`re old :)...

  • Thier first sinle. Amazing!!!!!

  • @Nash1965H Nope, Radio Free Europe was.

  • @timhopewell Or "Wolves, Lower"

  • I can't get it loud enuogh to make my ears bleed....aaaah dran

  • Grow your hair back Michael! You look like a sick old man with a shaved head!

  • @shelleyinthecity But he's naturally bald that's why he wore loads of hats in the early 90's to cover up his bald spot.

  • @shelleyinthecity Michael Stripes Billy Corgan the colest bald men ever

  • @shelleyinthecity He can´t! he´s hairless!

  • This reminds me of summer as a young man......it might be one of the most influencial songs for me, made me want to

really play acoustic guitar and play cool

things like this. I really thought

at the time....it was so beautiful.

    So very beautiful.

    And it certainly was. THX.

  • Look he has hair lol i really love this song

  • I think this is perhaps R.E.M.'s finest song.

  • @subtlehypocrisy

    i agree.

  • @subtlehypocrisy i agree! a beautiful song.

  • @subtlehypocrisy I agree. A timeless classic; great song @ a great time in my life..

  • The irony that Stipe did the vocal track live to avoid having to lip sync, and then, the studio version is overdubbed on Youtube...

  • nice!!
