can i just throw them into trays, apply no casing layer and just cover the tray with a piece of tinfoil until the tray is fully colonized then take the tinfoil off exposing a little light causing fruiting
@skillz139 Yes this is possible, but a casing layer provides humidity. For some reason, the casing helps to trigger pins to pop up. the first cakes i had, i also didn't case. only had mushroom growing out of it.
@smoky281 for some genes it works quite nice, but i would adive a different tek. For example pf-tek is nice for beginners. i prefer the tek where you create a rye spawn, and then later add a casing layer to it.
@boognish59 I agree with you. This video is just an example of how easy growing mushrooms can be. But using a grain spawn is way better then this dcasing methode. Rye grain spawn is the way to go:)
@sonnyonshrooms Hey there. I'm only familiar with the PF tek but I was wondering if you make casings with grain spawn the same way as with popcorn in this video?
@terminator654321 Vermiculite is really important, i don't know any alternatives. You can use other stuff as casing, but there will be a higher risk of contamination. i wouldn't use sand of river, i would try to get some peatmoss product if you really can't find vermiculite. try to buy vermiculite from the internet.
very interesting, im glad i watched it but to be honest, that is a tiny yield. even a begginer doing the simple pftek, can get 5x that amount from a substrate about the same size. I think the same method could maybe be used with a more serious substrate thow, like rye grain, worm casting. I dont think my roomate would let me put horsepoo into his PC.
@kingjamesthafirst i agree, it is a shitty methode, you tried it? but it is a methode. some other people appriciate it. besides , this is easy and small scaled for people who want to start small. also you ll learn alot doing many different methodes, to find the one that is best suited for you as grower
@kingjamesthafirst i agree, it is a sjhittymethode, you tried it? but it is a methode. some other people appriciate it. besides , this is easy and small scaled for people who want to start small. also you ll learn alot doing many different methodes, to find the one that is best suited for you as grower
I like this tek because it is easy. But my interest is in bulking and casing. Growing right off of popcorn, its cool! But you get SOOOO much more when you make the effort to just use the corn as spawn and spawn it to a bulk substrate. It's easy. And you get a TON!
@rogerrogerdlf go for the popcorn. when you inoculate from the top, you need a needle that's long enough to go through the vermiculite to reach the popcorn.
@legalyzefreed0m Hmm, so when you pull the syringe in, you can't use the syringe anymore? Which also means, when you pull the syringe out, the tip of the needle is full of corn? Try to start using the syringe while you're pushing the needle in. As soon as you are inside the tray/jar, your start squezing the spore water out of the syringe while you are moving the needle futher in, till it can't go futher. Hope it works :)
nemen die popcorn/mais dingen genoeg vocht op zodat je ze naderhand niet meer hoeft te bevochtigen? of voordat ze de pressure cooker ingaan? Want in de video voeg je geen water meer toe aan de bakjes
@73656 Yes, the popcorn should be hydrated after Step3, Step4 and even after step6. It's not such a good idea to add more water when you pour the popcorn in the trays/jars. mycelium has a very difficult time colonizing when the substrate is to moist.
casing with a 50/50 mix of verm brown rice flour to popcorn. Problem is I used to fine of verm because I didn't see the size of it till I got home thought they only made one size of verm silly me. Went with it anyway but the myc is having trouble getting through the fine myc I'm thinking because of fae, have I set myself up for failure or is it just going to take forever. And do you need to mist or water the casing, I'm fanning the hell out of it to make up for the combact small verm.
@sonnyonshrooms hey sonny , when the it al turns white just put it into your fruitting chamber or what im new to this method thanks for the video btw i mos def plan on doing these when i get sum serygs sorry for the misspeling btw
So how do you know when to take the tin foil off?

@thedoobieman5 no, i wouldn't do d-casings using rye as substrate. If you wanna use rye, you should start colonizing a jar or a spawnbag.

can i use sand of river?

@solidsneak12 the temperature was about 27 degree Celsius in my incubator.
