  • What did you do to your wrist? OUCH!!! :)

  • This bowie can still be found for sale via Google.

  • so pissed this knife is discontinued.

  • nutnfancy you make the best knife reviews on youtube thanks for that

  • Nice Vid Nut'n. Where could i get get bowie blanks. I have an antler that my friend wants me to make into a bowie knife. Bowie design with a rat tail tang, i guess i could cut the tail of the tang myself if i have to.

    Thanks, steve.

  • is condor tool and knife better?

  • @bustalip810 They are great. You can buy a 18 incher and cut it to this size.

  • They discontinued it for some reason.

  • Hey nut'n, i cant seem to locate this knife on cold steels website. Did they discontinue it?

  • I can see where you're coming from, because i like to have combat-ready blades too, but when the HELL are you you going to pierce body armor with a $20 machete?

  • 2:33 big foot is gonna come to you! and you're gonna kill it? lucky, lol wtffff !!!

  • Not to burst bubbles over there...

BUT I think a shorter 6 inch knife would be better for "Defending" against whatever it may be, the reason is that it has better

Reaction (ETC) But a 12 inch is great don't get me wrong. Just sayin (:

  • holey snap thats sharp

  • Chineese made probably. for twenty bucks?

  • Do these kind of Cold Steel knives wear out quickly?

  • I despise the stickers CS puts on their machetes. The best way to remove it is to burn it off. Are these a bargain? Perhaps, but the Ka-Bar Large Heavy bowie is the way to go. It has a good edge, the price is right and it sports a 9-inch blade. How can you go wrong?

  • cool blade!

  • I got the, I hate to say the name, but the Cold Steel AK-47. I bought it down in Indonesia. Well, my brother did. I was really surprised over how well known Cold Steel is and the quality of the knife. I actually really like it minus the ridiculous name. I'm thinking of getting the same knife you got there.

  • NUTNFANCY: I would like to thank you for your constructive attitude, your interest in sharing knowledge and for putting time and resources in making the videos for the community. With best wishes from Spain.

  • i dont know why but any vid of yours i watch tkes forever to load its worth it though

  • what is whispering for?

  • You need to learn to use the correct words in context while speaking. When you use incorrect words in a sentence without the proper meaning, it destroys your credibility.

  • Machetes are excellent to learn about modifying edges and profiles. If you cannot find a 12 inch Bowie Machete, just go and buy a 16 or 20 inch machete and get a sharpie, draw something you like and go ahead to the grinding or you can even use a hacksaw to do it.

In Puerto Rico and in any other latin countries, machete mods are very common.

  • @nestornegron good point i took an older one and chopped it down i line in saskachewan so we have alota plains and bush so a god field knife is needed for the ost basic needs my mod took 5 mins with a angel grinder and a machete you can buy them anywere at a desent price

  • @nestornegron good point i took an older one and chopped it down i line in saskachewan so we have alota plains and bush so a god field knife is needed for the ost basic needs my mod took 5 mins with a angel grinder and a machete you can buy them anywere at a desent price i made a rambo 4 style knife and it did good chopping

  • Hey which catalog is this? I would love to subscribe to a good knife magazine. Oh and I am already subbed to nutnfancy :-)

  • i think 20 buck are too much for a 12" machete i just buy a 12" colombian machetes (one of the best makers of south america with 60 years makin machetes ) for like 7-8 buck and i really good

i will be making a video soon

  • @galletinN I do some mods with a Tres Canales Colombian Machete. What I did is I took a 21 inch Machete and cut it to 15 Inches with a bowie tip. I also have a 14 Inch Tramontina that I also modified to an 12 inch Camping Knife. The Tres Canales can be Shaving sharp in minutes with a 99 cent file and a couple of passes with your own leather belt. This is as cheap as you can go.

  • I cannot find the 12" bowie machete anywhere..It's been discontinued..

  • if i had to choose between a kabar and this, id use this-wickedly intimidating

  • wat did you do to your wrist

  • LOVE the calculator watch! lol

  • Where I live every house has a machete of any kind especially the big ones

  • Where can i find the mug/rape knifes ? I do believe they come in stock.

  • For kitchen master :D

  • 5:03 lets take a look at the blade

  • O.O...Man..Have you ever shanked/slashed anybody before?

  • Got mine today. Your video got me onto it.. I should have bought 2 as well but cannot justify it to my wife as She doesn't understand such things. Mines sharpened up great using my Spyderco.

  • Got mine today. Your video got me onto it.. I should have bought 2 as well but cannot justify it to my wife as She doesn't understand such things.

  • It's SUPER THIN! Booooo! :-(

  • Your video's ROCK!!!!!!!!

  • dude there is no way u r goin to be sittin in the middleof the woods and just get attack no needfor a blade that sarp

  • it is smart to buy 2

    1 for combat

    1 for chopping

  • I remember Nutn talking to John Fitzen about these, and Fitzen said they WERE good, but the new ones don't take an edge. Steel is the same I think, 1055. He called Cold Steel, and he says that they were doing it to keep costs the same. Has anybody bought a new one and confirm? Has anybody bought one of their slightly more expensice 1055 steel knives and if the edge won't take? Are they switching to a cheaper heat treatment?

  • half way through filming and the mothaafukaa still dunt pull the knife out ! wtf

  • yaaa nutnfancy member me from thepenguinsinblack and i still love all your awesome vids iv almost seen like all of them

  • can u ship ur kinives to razors edge so they will sharpen for you? cuz i live in houston and salt lake city is FAR away and i dont know if there is any re-profileing in houston

  • Why do we have to sit through almost half the video to see the actual knife?

  • i would love it if you could do a review of the coldsteel barong machete.

  • @TheSmackfan101 checkout my Meet Joe Black...shirt...part 2....an eye opener!

  • typical use for a machete? cutting shit out of your way in the woods!

  • YAY a $20 blade that is good.. kuzz when the zombies get here they are not going to give a sh*t how much your blade costed you.. i have just decided to sub. to "cold steel"

  • nice calculator watch

  • i bought a cold steel knife from the philippines for only php180... more than $4 only...and i forgot to bring its back here in canada...

  • get a life! there is more to life that talkin about knives. have you tried sexual intercourse or playing sports?!

  • @gibbs500.....hahaha...I'm actually a boxer...and I rather enjoy making love to your mom on those lonely nights xD

  • great knife for the value, i wish they'd take this design and make it thicker on the spine preferbly the same as the cold steel srk. i found that thickness when going into wood splits easier

  • Wered you get it? :P

  • hey man if you want some more knives to review you should check out the website for

rapid river knifeworks they are mede in michigan and are great quality they cost a little bit more but i think u might like them

  • Ya me and buddys ran into a pack of wild house cats yesterday i almost died it was pretty manly

  • Rofl? House cats! I got quite a few we could practice that knife out on... Nice review.

  • Did you get it online? if u did, wered u ge this? isnt it illegal in the cities?

  • this looks kool

  • TO Nutnfancy: Leather sheaths wont bug you as much if you treat them well. Put some waterproofing material on it.

  • i cant find the 12 inch version anywhere theres only the 18 in. blade anywhere i check

  • 2:35 Ya! Take that house cat! Ya!

  • @trying2killsometime

    Slice and dice that pusseh!

  • house cat LMAO

  • a real man sharpens his own blade. it should be an extension of his body and he should know how.

  • LOL it WAS pretty funny. :D - Veri

  • @CzeckTalia A blade is a blade, its used for things such as cutting and stabbing weather it be a rope or a person, Bushido teaches that youre sword is the extension of who you are, in reality........its just a blade.

  • @CzeckTalia If you dont have the right materials it can be pretty hard. Especially if you are doing some major re-edging. You cant use an average grinder, becuase it can ruin the temper of the steel. I agree though, I cant afford to pay people to sharpen my blades, ive done it myself since I was 7.

  • @CzeckTalia a real man knows when there are people with better skills out there to sharpen your knives for you. i'm sure you're all talk

  • @CzeckTalia

    those words made me orgasm

  • @CzeckTalia HAHAHa

  • @CzeckTalia Thats an interesting opinion are you a kinght?? sounds like something a knight would say

  • @CzeckTalia He DOES sharpen his own blade, he just has Fitzen grind the edge to the angle he prefers :P

  • @CzeckTalia i must not be a real man :( cause i cant sharpen very good

  • his name was robert paulson

  • @CzeckTalia i sharpen my knife but its kind of hard lol

  • @CzeckTalia yes samurai jack

  • @CzeckTalia He had the dimensions of it changed. He sharpens his own blades from what I've heard on his other videos.

  • Comment removed

  • @CzeckTalia no comrade ....over here....you're an extension of the blade and the blade sharpens you!

  • @CzeckTalia he does sharpen his own knives. He just does not reprofile them, to do that he needs a slow rotating grinding wheel.

  • @BigGameHunter91 "Need" is a strong word. But it takes a LONG time to do with most anything else. =)

  • @CzeckTalia Real men don't need to sharpen there blades, because there blades fear them to much to even dull.

  • yah they have discontinued the 12" unfortoinitly i was trying to look for one for a camping trip next week and i find out it was discontinued. luckiy although very hard to find they are stll in rotatoin for some sellers, i did find one on ebay, and with any luck it will be here before the trip =].

  • Sucks dude! When I got mine a little over 2 months ago, it was still available. Skin of your teeth, man.

  • to bad cold steel is discontinuing the 12" they do have the 18 now though but i prefer a smaller more maneuverable weapon.

  • that's my edc blade :P

  • i just bought this knife, im such an impulse buyer. I needed to close my pay-pal account

  • What would one expect to pay for a reprofile on a blade like that? Ballpark, $10-$20 more?

  • Yeah i just ordered two of these blades, can't wait to get them

  • It may be worth considering the Cheaper than Dirt rough use bolo knife. Less than 20 with shipping and it's 3/16 thick I believe.

  • that blade is thin as shit.. though again, what do you expect for $20

  • @Casper48022

It's not a "knife" by Cold Steel's definition. It's a machete. Perfectly fine thickness for a machete.

If was I looking for a true survival knife... then I would also want something much thicker.

  • Nice knife for the price....if you have two or three it'llserve its purpose in the field but you have to get an edge on it and oiled up. I have a Mike England Rambo one knife that'll put it to shame....any day...all day...all week...all year.

  • Don't get me wrong, I love the video! But what's the point of harping on about what a great value it is if u don't mention the cost of the customized sharpening u paid for.

(Or the cost of shipping it out to BE sharpened for that matter). I appreciate u keeping us poor folk in mind, but if u paid $150 for sharpening and shipping, I should just buy a SOG, right? Thanks and keep up the great work!!! Heinous has spoken! (And more importantly, must nap now!)

  • For the $19.99, you just can't beat this knife. I bought a couple of them, had the blades re-profiled and every time that I've been in the woods, it has performed well. I actually cracked the blade on an Ontario Spec Plus Survival SP5-95

processing wood in the cold and ended up finishing up with the CS Bowie. I have to say though, Ontario really stands behind their knives and they asked me to send it in and even though the knife has been discontinued, they'll send me a compatible knife

  • how much to get sharpened?

  • ive had the gi tanto in the same steel and i one thing ive found out from using it on wood is that the steel REALLY dosent hold an edge.

  • Coldsteel machetes are 1055 Carbon Steel

martindale, imacasa, incolma are better steel 1074 Carbon Steel and for the same price or maybe cheaper.

  • That's a monster!... I love it. :)

  • Hey, TNPers, would you reccomend this 12' bowie, or a 13' kukri machete from Cold Steel? Thanks!

  • @Wingsfan7

Me personally, I think you would be better off with the 12 in. bowie for several reasons. 1. its less metal to carry 2. it has more fields of use than the kukri 3. kukri is more of a slashing blade, you wouldnt really be able to stab with it if you needed to. Yes i know you wouldnt really be stabbing with a machette, this is just circumstantial. But i think you would deffinately be better off with the 12 in.

  • Thanks a lot for your opinion, I found it for a cheaper price than the kukri also, so I'm thinking of going for it, although I think that it may have less sheer chopping power, but price and weight are two factors to consider as you stated. For my system I'm doing a lot of reading about Kukri vs Bowie, and Finn Bear vs Roach Belly. Any other thoughts are welcome. Thanks again Reef.

  • the bowie design!!!

i got the 18inch one, its a beast!

  • Dude I just went to a knive maker and i asked whats better the cold steel or the kabar kukri and he told me that kabar is better all the way. its amazing! he cut a bussines card right flat down on a glass table. Just giving you the heads up.

  • I think he does have a kabar

  • oh shit... is it legal to have one of those?

  • @byorda It shouldnt be illegal to own one but to carry it on your person then yea it is depending on where you live

  • @nutnfancy:

What do you think about the blade's durability overall?

  • i can personally say that it more then acceptable and very easy to resharpen! Its one of the best deal out there.

  • Where do you reccomend getting a knife sharpened?

I know Gander Mtn. sharpens blades for customers?

  • remids me crocodile dundee's knife

  • i cant see anything wrong with cold steel yet i hear always contravery id like to know what some of it is if you'd be so inclined to message me

  • its been controversial, because Cold Steel as a company is seen as unethical. They have more than once "stolen" other companies and other makers designs, without the proper blessings.

that and also they can be quiet theatrical in their videos.

  • this or the fixed blade bushman?

  • you said something to the effect of, it can "pierce body armor". Seriously, that's a real concern? In what place do you live that there is even the most remote chance that someone will attack you wearing body armor that is not also equipped with a gun? If you said "pierce bear hide" or something, then maybe I would understand your concern. maybe... But body armor? c'mon.

  • i think he's kidding

  • He clearly prefaced that statement by pointing out that it could also be deployed as a combat knife. So, yes, in a combat environment I'd consider it's ability or lack there of to pierce body armor a concern. You just got served.

  • whats the practical use of the clip point? what up with dat?

  • I have the 18 Bowie Machete myself. I LOVE IT! Even though it is NOT yet sharpened, I am in love with it, dull and all because the first time I took it out I could tell instantly that this was a blade that was going to get the job done and last for years with a bit of TLC and upkeep (you are going to have to take preventative measures against rust, but it is no big deal considering). But seriously, if there is only ONE big blade you can take with you, choose the 18 CS Bowie!!!

  • If you want to keep that Knife from wiggleing all over your belt you could use a caribeaner or folding keyring to attach it to your belt loop. That way the belt keeps it from going up and down and the belt and pant loop keep it from going side to side.-Joshua

  • u are the best.... love ur videos and ur knowledge of the blade...

  • LOL @ 2:40

    "house cat"

  • Awesome!

  • hey, have you ever had to protect yourself from man or beast with a knife like this?

  • bowie knives are awesome maybe as awesome as a kukri knife

  • he said around 1:07 that there is some controversy over cold steel. what does he mean by that?

  • @shinigami136 Many claim the Cold Steel copies other knife makers with some of their line. Also, other claim the the quality of Cold Steel is not up to the highest standards. I personally don't care if they copy as long as its reliable and cost effective :)

  • @shinigami136 some people don't think they are good and some do

  • ur a dumbass. nutnfancy is one of the most serious and accomplished outdoorsman ive seen. especially on youtube

  • i have daily sword fights with my house cat or cats he brings friends sometimes.. intense

  • hey, whitey211....sasquatch here....lay off the bowie knife....I'm running out of band aides!!

  • i am going to buy a cold steel machete bowie and i dont know if i should buy the 12 in or 18 in i want a good knife that can do some heavy chopping but not to big and heavy so direct to the right knife k great vid

  • buy both! lol

  • hahaha i might lol

  • That's no joke. I had a housecat scare the poo out of me once while I was camping. Those glowing eyes still haunt me...

  • ive had to defend myself with a knife from sasquatch numerous times. he's my nemesis

  • i bought the same today:D, mine is a little bigger, it's the 18" one.

but do you know where you can sharpen your knive? cause i don't have an idea:p or did you do it by yourself?

    cheers

  • Nutnfancy has his friend Fitzen do all his sharpening.

  • 4.5 minutes BLABLAHBLAH.

Take the damn thing out of the sheath !

  • Damn right

  • Don't disrespect Nutnfancy's philosophy. That's what sets him apart from other knife/gear reviewers. He gives first hand experiences/stories and gives you some stuff to laugh & think about when you hear about the knife he's reviewing. If you don't like it, don't watch his videos.

  • make a top 10 list of knifes guns multuy tolls etc

  • Thank you for your reviews, they are immensely helpful, especially the ones in which I thoroughly disagree with you.

  • lol, house cat!

  • id call that a knife, i know theres some short machete's but i wouldent force that classification on a blade unless it was at least 16 inches

  • Good review. I own several Cold Steel machetes. Favorites are 12 inch Seax and Spear Point styles. I disagree about the handle - I love it - great grip surface and fits my hand beautifully. Great general purpose abuse-taking working and survival knives! The black finish will wear (how soon depends on the use and abuse you subject them to), they will rust (steel wool or 3M pad and oil take care of that), and they do need an edge put on periodically, but they are CHEAP and TOUGH. Get a couple!

  • *Offensively* :p Well done though ^^.

  • cool review nutnfancy. ive been debating whether or not to get the bowie and that really helped. and the machete stock edges DO SUCK!!!!

  • lol big foot... house cat lmfao

  • Do a review on the Cold Steel Recon Tanto !

  • thanks.. now i want to kill someone

  • Don't do it, son. Suicide is a sin!

  • do some review about the 24 machete, the long ones.

  • you sould do a Review on the woodsman's pal

  • Cold Steel makes some great ass zombie hunting gear.

  • i bought this knife yesterday, very good knife for only 25 €

  • If you want to see how sharp your knife is, try cutting the paper sideways and see if you can take off the top layer of the paper in large sections, without damaging the bottom layer! =)

I did that with my Marttiini Condor Skinner, back when it was factory sharpened.

  • ... sideways?

  • Along the surface of the paper. Laterally, should I say...

  • look like u tried to hurt urself with it.....look at the left wrist...

  • I went off to do some counting -

I have at least 25 Cold Steel knives I ordered sight unseen after seeing super positive feedback - they are all worthless junk.

Apart from mk3 mod2 recommendation (and I think all this should make a come back in 440 not 1095 (junk) version) all current millitary should get this

Apart - for a more expensive but incredibly awesome - go with Puma's TAC 1 or TAC 2 survival/millitary/defensive/tactcal knive.... I like the TAC 1 flat on 1 side myself. yummy goodness

  • MAN!!! THIS BLADE IS AWESOME !!!

  • man,I got a forestry machete cheaper than that

  • I love the new chinese models.

I got the long bowie and spear point models, they are great, but a little heavy, so i'm looking at the shorter models. Like this.

    1055 is awesome.

  • Yeah, thanks for the thumbs down.
