  • Cobain, Weiland, Vedder and Wood - Amazing vocalists

Cornell and Staley - Two greatest vocalists ever

This hole "grunge" thing had some decent singers, wouldnt you say?

  • @csmzcs Yes i would, I grew up in the 80's..I turned 20 in 91,so i was in my prime and this music was so refreashing to me..I was so sick of the stereo type glam metal..I listened to soundgarden from the beginning..Same as alice in chains..I thought this is going to catch fire and burn for awhile,, it did..Thank you nirvana for blowing it wide open.

    Peaceout

  • Chris Cornell is just over the top GREAT! Recorded or Live he rules! No inhancements needed for that voice!!!!!!!! Love ya Chris go man as long as you can.

  • R.I.P. Layne your'e truly under apreciated say hello 2 heaven for me.Him, and chris are without a doubt the two best vocalist's of the 90's.

  • @74wasagreat

Its not for Layne. Its for Andy

  • I know... the song was released in 1991 its just more a personal thing i choose to view the song as fitting for Layne, and his death

  • 74 go look up some mother love bone man and you will understand everything

  • R.I.P. Andy

  • this is a great tune and i really dig all cornells songs.

please show me some other great songs by cornell and soundgarden

  • best voice of the 90's if you ask me then id have to say layne's right there next to him

  • For the 90's for best voice I would not be able to say Cornell i would have to say Chris' friend Jeff Buckley and I'm sure Chris would agree with me also, but Chris would be right after him.

  • @salmon020 For me Layne is ahead with Chris slightly after. But I can see why people prefer Chris... both are as good as they get

  • love the song xD

  • This is my funeral song

  • Cornell and Staley are my favourite singers ever. Truly gifted people which I adore. R.I.P. Layne.

  • @hurtreliefhurt yes, i 'm a fan of layne stanley, and cornell is one of my favourite singer!

  • One thing you can say about the Seattle Sound bands - every singer is unique and irreplacable or inimitable.

Chris Cornell, Layne Staley, Eddie Vedder, Mark Lanegan, Scott Weiland and TAD are all instantly recognizable.

  • Comment removed

  • I agree, Seattle bands had amazing singers, all of them created their own great styles!

  • Pleaseee...don't forget the biggest Kurt Donald Cobain!!!

  • RIP sure, but i think he's one of the most over rated people in music history! He did have a huge impact on many people which i don't deny

    R.I.P. Layne & Dimebag

  • best voice in rock,period.

  • yes sir...hes the man

  • Although my bias is toward Layne Staley I find it very hard to argue this.

  • The late,great Mr.Staley is my #2 man,no doubt

  • how many times in the history of music has a realitivly unknown artist ANDY WOOD ever had a tribute album been dedicated to their honor ....... shows you how large of a loss he was to the world of music ......... if all the woulda coulda shoulda shit never went down where would this band (mother love bone) be now ......... eddie who * and i love eddie with all my heart * other than andy i can't think of a vocalist with more soul in their voice

  • The holy spirit is in this song!! Watch it live and watch the fans!!! Peace

  • LMAO!

  • these guys and a lot of bands from this era give me the feeling that i am capable of so much more in my life..... i guess thats inspiration

  • One of the best singers to date.

  • I like very much!!!

  • No, disliking old Pearl Jam is like disliking candy. Disliking new Pearl Jam is like disliking candy that has been in someone else's mouth, fell into the couch, collected dust and dirt and sat there for a year, only to be found by you later. The idea of the candy is appealing, but you don't want to put that garbage in your mouth.

  • there is not better way of explaining it

  • Reminds me of the brain cells I lost back then

  • This is simply one of the best songs of the grunge era, and has one of the best vocal performances ever. I also agree i like Temple of the Dog much better than Pearl Jam. Although all of PJ was in TOTD, Chris Cornell had a big role in the songwriting, and the songs he wrote are far better than any vedder writes, its the simple truth.

  • Ok, Vedder wrote some great songs, especially in "Ten", But Chris Cornell is a WAY better vocalist for sure.

  • now, chris cornell is producing real shit, with soundgarden, he was one of the best, albums like blow up the outside or superunknown are extraordinary, fabolous....

  • 1. Chris Cornell is still making some good music.

    2. "Blow Up the Outside" isn't an album. You're thinking of Down on the Upside.

    3. This ain't Soundgarden. :)

  • i know, its not soundgarden, but soundgarden was really good...

yes of course i mean down on the upside:)

first thing is not true for me:)

  • @segerocker Apples & oranges there. They're both brilliant and have such different styles that it's pointless to try and say one's better than the other.

  • @segerocker they're both up there, imo, just different vocal ranges.

  • @segerocker i love both vedder and cornell and cornell has wider range..but i believe that if you take this two you can make the best voice in th universe....!!!!!!

  • @segerocker yea totally but Vedder and Chris Cornell are still equal musicians. They both wrote great songs. Well actually Vedder only wrote lyrics but come on... gotta love Eddie!

  • @segerocker totally disagree and they are both great vocally and lyrically. Eddie has ALWAYS sounded WAY better live and its not even close.Ed's vocals are consistently great live Chris can be great but rarely is.Not too hard to prove this btw.Ed's vocals on Reign O'er Me for The Who VH1 tribute is amazing to say the least. If you're only talking about lyrics then you don't have a clue as both are equally talented in the past and present.

  • @enwll3427 Eddie can barely speak let alone sing. Chris rules... sorry dude.

  • Comment removed

  • @segerocker

Only because his vocal range is ridiculous

  • It wasn't all of PJ, the drummer was Matt Cameron (In Soundgarden at the time, later in Pearl Jam of course), so they were missing original drummer Dave Krusen

  • thank you for posting this vid.

  • These are truly the GRUNGE :

    ------------------------------------------------------

    Nirvana

    Temple Of The Dog

    Melvins

Pearl Jam (i dislike but they deserve there credit)

Nirvana wasnt the inventor of grunge Kurt didnt care what anyone thought of his music he only put his heart into his music an his feelings twisted or human like when he died grunged took its last swirl b4 going down the drain. R.I.P. to the artists who really sung about wat was real an i dont mean that in the black way

  • How do you dislike Pearl Jam when all 5 members were in Temple of the Dog?

  • simple there music is different different singer

  • Wtf. you include Temple of The Dog in your list but you fail to mention all the other bands that chris cornell has been in? You sound like a douche.

  • ur a douche for that trolling remark.........

  • What about Alice in Chains? While they also incorporate metal and blues into their music, I think they are Grunge. Listen to any of their acoustic songs.

  • Grunge took influence from punk, metal and classic hard rock. AIC is grunge but with a more metal edge to it.

  • @Travass83 Gruntruck, Green River, 7 Year Bitch, The Melvins, Mudhoney, and Mother Love Bone were truely Grunge.

  • @babychecker57 dont forget tad.

  • @stonescourt3 You Mean "Forget Tad?" XD

  • fjkseattle;i feel everything u said, and im sure most of the rest of us do,thanks

  • PURE CLASSIC

  • He's saying it was 'unfortunate it had to be created' because it took the death of Andrew Wood to bring this tribute into being. Its hardly insulting to Wood because it belies that the music would have been better served had he never died.

Seriously, come off the high horse and read the words in front of you.

  • dude,

i took it that way as well. It is a shame that we have to make tributes, but that is the unfortunate reality and we as a society have ourselves to blame. One of my best friends ODed in 1995 of heroin and he was a fellow drug and alcohol counselor who went back, and we all tried to help. I can feel the frustration in which Cornell sings, it is very much the same frustration I felt --no matter what---he kept using. What an amazing song and CD.

  • im sorry you lost your best friend man. at least you didn't sit back and watch, at least you tried to help.

  • It is actually the opposite. This tribute CD and the book Malfunkshun, the Andrew Wood story, actually through the telling of his demise, will immortalize him. I share the feeling that the music would have much better been served had he lived. Again very sad and I tell all the adolescents I have ever worked with his story as well as my friend's story. I still miss my friend so so much. I can so relate to Cornell both lyrically and how he emphatically sings this song.

  • Temple of the Dog wasn't under rated or underappreciated... you just said it was a good album, why did you just say " Its unfortunate that this album had to be created" thats ripping on the band and kind of an insult to andrew wood.. and saying a "every cloud has its silver lining" means that theres a little something good out of something bad.. you dont make any sence at all.. go listen to some high school musical you bastard

  • You're the one who isn't paying attention here.

Andrew Wood died and TotD was formed as a tribute to him, that's what he means by the silver lining. Think about things before you post a hateful comment.

  • One of the greatest song of all time. Pearl Jam and Soundgarden combined is never a bad idea. Cornell is simply amazing here. Arguably one of the most underrated, underappreciated songs and albums ever. It's unfortunate that this album had to be created, but i guess every cloud does have a silver lining.

  • A CLASSIC

  • i remember when I got this album thinking oh hunger strike is number 3 how long could it be till I hear their greateast hit, well it turns out at least 30 mins

  • great song thanks for uploading it

  • this song was written about andrew wood.lead singer of jeff ament and stone gossard's (pearl jam) first band, called "mother love bone." chris cornell was roommates with andrew wood. on the week of their first album release, andrew died of a heroin overdose. his death brought jeff and stone to search for a new vocalist, and they found one. and his name is eddie vedder. i hear this song and wonder what WOULD have been if andrew wood didn't die..."temple of the dog" is a lyric of andrew's.RIP A.W.
