Just a quick note on the music, in my humble opinion Allah banned music that could lead to negative feelings or sinful thoughts, but not the sound in general. I really don't see why "music" singing the praises of Allah and uniting Muslims, talking about our struggle, can be seen as anything but positive. Our social rules are constructed to guide/protect us, I think this is positive. Just my opinion.

As a musician and devout Christian, I have asked Muslim brothers to explain the reasoning this ban on music. While I have been quoted text from prominent religious figures, where in the Qu'ran does it specifically state that music is a sin? and more importantly...why?
Science has proven the many positive healing aspects of music, in physical and physiological terms. In terms of spirituality, there is no question in my mind, and within the words of the Holy Bible that music connects us to God.
According to the scholars it depends of the type of the Music. If the Music is about nonesense stuff like "I have hoes in different area codes" or "Bling Bling Money aint a thing" for example, than it is haram because it can or will lead to bad actions. If the music is about positive things like praising or remembering god than there is nothing wrong with it and is infact encouraged. Basically any music will be judged on its end result on whether it leads to something positive or negative.

there are certain rules to music in Islam
1) Must be a male voice (a womens voice is considered a part of her beauty and her singing should be kept for her husband and/or family who are forbidden to marry her. This increases the value of a woman in general due to the fact that she is not a common commodity, as many models/ actresses/ singers have become today)

Please site a verse from the Quran that says Allah forbids music. Not from the Hadith which is written by men but from the Quran itself which is the exact words of Allah (God). Muslims are praising Allah and all He has given to them and they are doing it in many different ways. This is very good especially in America where young people understand the language of music better than any other language. Allah understands all languages. Reaching young people this way is a very good thing.

Uh bro, a real Muslim is OBLIGED to judge, but only through the Quranic specs. Please drop this Tupac garbage only god can judge us. Allah has made it obligatory to judge correctly, and didn't say DO NOT JUDGE since this would go against our human nature as being judgmental species. This is how we differ from animals.
Anyways, many of us, and most of all the Sahaba came from much worse backgrounds, this doesn't justify doing anything that Allah prohibited. What is haraam remains haraam.

As a musician and devout Christian, I have asked Muslim brothers to explain the reasoning this ban on music. While I have been quoted text from prominent religious figures, where in the Qu'ran does it specifically state that music is a sin? and more importantly...why?
Science has proven the many positive healing aspects of music, in physical and physiological terms. In terms of spirituality, there is no question in my mind, and within the words of the Holy Bible that music connects us to God.

According to the scholars it depends of the type of the Music. If the Music is about nonesense stuff like "I have hoes in different area codes" or "Bling Bling Money aint a thing" for example, than it is haram because it can or will lead to bad actions. If the music is about positive things like praising or remembering god than there is nothing wrong with it and is infact encouraged. Basically any music will be judged on its end result on whether it leads to something positive or negative.

okay,im no scholar or anything but the reason music is banned is because Allah (SWT) forbade us to,that is the main reason ,logic and reasoning cannot be used to comprehend orders given by The One who created knowledge and reasoning itself.Music along with all other sins were made inorder to test a muslims integrity because in the end,this world was made to test ,to see who obeys and who doesn't. Islam NEVER forbade all music in general...
there are certain rules to music in Islam
1) Must be a male voice (a womens voice is considered a part of her beauty and her singing should be kept for her husband and/or family who are forbidden to marry her. This increases the value of a woman in general due to the fact that she is not a common commodity, as many models/ actresses/ singers have become today)

@stevearriva well 1st of all, the use profanity is a sign of an ignorant person. 2nd of all, me personally, am no one to tell anyone what to do; simply an adviser... take it or leave it. God however, whether u believe in a god or not, is the One who created you... so um yeah... having the right to tell u what u listen to, is kinda his jurisdiction, considering you wouldn't have the sense of hearing weren't it for Him. Christian, Jewish, Muslim, whatever.... they all believe in ONE GOD.

2) It must carry a positive message (whether that be the praise of God, celebration of marriage or a feast/ festival, or even a relating a certain story with a good moral to it)
3) The only instruments allowed are the drums (Other scholars have said all percussion instruments, as long as they are made from the flesh of an animal... aka leather strings, leather over the top of a drum, etc... What exactly the reason is behind this is unknown to me, but may God enlighten us all)

Please site a verse from the Quran that says Allah forbids music. Not from the Hadith which is written by men but from the Quran itself which is the exact words of Allah (God). Muslims are praising Allah and all He has given to them and they are doing it in many different ways. This is very good especially in America where young people understand the language of music better than any other language. Allah understands all languages. Reaching young people this way is a very good thing.
