  • Fake

  • Welcome to the third place.

    We all float down here.

  • he really stepped out of his comfort zone. not.

  • I see eraserhead

  • lynch is awsome after watching his Film is feel like i just smoked a bowl but i know i didnt

  • That was awesome

  • EPIC LOL!

  • david lynch is a master man!!!

  • I remember watchin this ad when I was a kid it used to give me nightmares it's only now that I've plucked up the courage to watch this advert again after all those years

  • I love the screaming of the girl at the end

  • I understand perfectly.

  • Reminds me of last night...

  • They should make Eraserhead for Wii. It should have the engine of MadWorld. The player will use motion controls to cut the bandages of that mutant baby, make erasers out of human brain etc. It'll be a hit!

  • If David Lynch did a Silent Hill movie he'd release it on 12/12/12 so we could all explode in happiness.

  • @ThatHockeyMaskGuy 21/12/2012 not 12/12/2012 ... That's when the Mayan calendar ends and all of the planets of our solar system are in a straight line.

  • @mrbobajojo That's what I meant. Lol.

  • hi drake

  • I'm scared.

  • i don't understand

  • @alexanderhulse no one understands david lynch, that's why we love him :)

  • Is the duck Deputy Weld?

  • It makes you ask what the third place is, then it tells you. I like it

  • I think actually David Lynch made ALL PS-Commercials D:

  • Well IDK about you guys, but this makes me wanna boot up Ratchet and Clank

  • .........What?

If I had not been a gamer, this wouldn't make me buy it. It'd make me want to stay away from the console and go get a Dreamcast or something.

  • David Lynch should help create Max Payne 3 on the PC. ;-)

  • what the hell what the hell what the hell what the hell what the hell what the hell what is the third place what the hell what the hell that face was so creepy holy what the hell a duck in a suit and 2 of yourself throwing up arms whattttt awesome! whattt

  • This would have been the PS2's "LSD".

  • BEST COMMERCIAL EVER!!!!!!!!!

  • What does it all mean?

  • Duck Says "Welcome to The Third Place"

This is Every Every Creepy & Scray!

  • Was this real? If it was, I can't think what the people behind it were thinking...

  • I would buy that game.

Too bad they never made it...

  • why the 'third place' ?

  • I'm glad they gave him a lot more freedom than most've the commercials he's done. He's a lot better at convincing me to buy a product than this "loud in your face shit" salesmen have been doing for hundreds of years.

  • Its David Lynch...........the fuck did you expect.

  • I'm pretty sure the sentence "Welcome to the third place" is English.

Why are you maniacs talking about Spanish and Italian, huh? Well? Answer me!

    Hurry up and ANSWER ME!

  • The video is in Italian.

  • Just for fun I did some research, and this is actually directed by David Lynch. It's from 2000 and is a result of 18 months of research from the European ad agency. They tried five ideas on test audiences, and this was the only one that tested well. The European Playstation tagline is 'The Third Place', hence the words the duck says. The agency members all agreed that Lynch was the only director suitable to make the commercial work.

  • This seems too blatant to be Lynch but its definitely an homage to him

  • wat

  • Eraserhead got himself a PS2. It makes sense now.

  • Definately feels like Lynch, did he actually direct it?

  • This ad is so scary...I watched it when i was 8 the first time...I was so affraid.and I still have thrills on my back today when i watching it again.I never understood the meaning of this ad

  • This is not David Lynch. It's sort of like a mockery of his style.

  • I don't see how that dude can remain so calm.

    Great video. Lynch!

  • this ad was meant to be in colour, but PLAYSTATION didn't think it looked Lynch enough so they B&W'ed it...

  • Imagine a David Lynch Game...

  • @Bosperus No thanks. I like to sleep occasionally.

  • @Bosperus You mean Silent Hill?

  • @Bosperus LSD: Lucid Dream Simulator reminds me of something like David Lynch

  • @Bosperus I want to play Grand Theft Auto TWIN PEAKS!

  • @ezekieloak what would you stole? a fucking log?

  • @Bosperus there's one already - Deadly Premonition.

  • @Bosperus I imagine it would be a cross between Silent Hill and the Driver series

  • @Bosperus Maybe you've heard of it but look up "Deadly Premonition".

  • @Bosperus Throw in Wild At Heart, Lost Highway and Blue Velvet (Imagine facing Frank Booth) and you've got something!

  • @Bosperus Just play Silent Hill 2 :P

  • @DistantJ God yes. Makes you wonder why David Lynch wasn't asked to direct the Silent Hill movie. The games were surreal and interesting, yet the film seemed closer to your run-of-the-mill horror flick. Still, it's one of the better movies based on a video game.

  • @MobilePissCannon I would have loved that! But I loved the actual Silent Hill movie anyway. But if you watch Inland Empire, it's pretty much a thinking man's Silent Hill anyways, heh... Would rather David carried on with original stuff.

  • @Bosperus It already exists, it's called Deadly Premonition ;)

  • Extremely Lynchian. And amazing, at that. Creepy and I think they forgot to tell him what it was a commercial for, but amazing nonetheless.

  • I am sorry for my error.

  • Wow... °°

  • This Duckman is very elegant. I wonder what kind of an organization would use such a duckman to deliver its messages to the world. He is very mysterious.

I would love a movie about that Third Place.

  • this does not make me want to buy a playstation, it has failed at its core objective.

  • @Jimmy81691 Agreed.

  • @Jimmy81691 your just another more simple human if commercials actually make you or need to make you want to buy it. that's no good.

    and its lynch. appreciate.

  • it's in italian

  • @galosf Not to be rude, but if the statement calling other languages "foreign" was in english, then those languages are in fact foreign to the language of the writer.

    Just sayin.

  • too bad playstation never made any games this good

  • that was wierd as hell, im pretty sure this commercial never aired on tv

  • did this ad ever actually air?

  • This commercial is like one big reference to Eraserhead.

  • Gotta love the tongue-in-cheek question mark at the end.

  • before Al Gore tho.. it's been running since 1985. In 1987, in Ohio, sites like Dazed and Confused were up and running. Free, and open to anyone that had a modem.

  • It was still the ARPANET then. I was having trouble posting that message, so I split in half, but it would let me post the other half! My main point was the World Wide Web came much later, and is still in use and not a predecessor at all, and is only one of several ways information travels thru the internet even now. i.e. miguel is pretty clueless about what the internet is. No country can take full credit, but America has the most valid claim.

  • @MiguelDeCorella The ARPANET was the predecessor of the Internet, and was in place in 1969, a totally American invention used by the US Dept. of Defense. Eventually Al Gore saw the potential for use by everybody, and conceived the internet, and it became functional in 1995.

  • that is fucked up

  • What was screamed in the end?

Bad ass PS2 commercial, by the way.

  • @gsarrells PlayStation 2 the third place (with a slight accent)

  • @Asgardwario I'm from Spain, but the video is not spanish. And it's pretty weird to find it here in Spain.

  • @Asgardwario No, it's italian. Ciao!

  • @Asgardwario no italian

  • @Asgardwario its Italian. ciao :)

  • @Asgardwario I think it's in Italian.

  • @Asgardwario è in italiano! it's in italian

  • @Asgardwario The voice coming from the speakers is in italian, i'm not sure where this ad is from.

  • @Asgardwario it's italian ;)

  • @Asgardwario it's italian

  • oh give me a fucking break, you don't like the movies you don't like the movies, but spare me this chauvinistic, patronizing crap about "demeaning and degrading actresses" when those same actresses keep choosing to work with him and speak positively about those collaborations.

  • they should have played that on the super bowl

  • me musician, so joke about music funny to me.

  • Yeah. Welp, I think tonight I'll watch some movies; "Idiocracy" by Mike Judge and "This is Spinal Tap", 2 very funny movies.

  • 1. Not Lynch

    2. Not Spanish

    Fail

  • It is Lynch, you fail,

  • ...and it's italian. Double fail. Loser.

  • @soylentgrun LOL- that's why I wrote NOT Spanish, you failing analphabet sodomite

  • If this played in America, sales would actually go down. Americans have a stick up their butt about intellectual stuff and people being "uppity".

  • Ha Ha, absolutely great, but where are the games like this? Please David, dont sale me something I cannot buy!

  • Comment removed

  • i'ts not spanish...it's Italian

  • ...

  • WTF YOUR A DUCK LOL

  • I luv the bambi one the other two that came after are "failiers" in capturing my attention They seem to just be ideas (out takes) before actually deciding on the one that should be aired

  • Awesomely weird!

  • This immediately made me think of when Lynch said Kafka is the only artist he feels "could be his brother". :)

  • im still surprised playstation/sony wanted to use ths ad- dont get me wrong, its cool, and very lynch, but im just so surprised that a huge company try to sell their new product with a lynch-directed slice of weirdness- kudos for the guys who came up with that idea and ran with it though, we'd have way more interesting commercials if more marketing execs took risks... to be fair PS2 would have sold a tonne even if the advert was just a kids pencil drawing of a house with "ps2" written on it..

  • "Part of the rollout of Sony's new Playstation 2 game console. This trailer was showing in theaters in Europe. It was shot on a two day shoot in LA in 2000. The commercial is the result of eighteen months of ad agency research, in which staff tested five ideas on early adopters across Europe. 'The Third Place' was the only one that captured the test groups' imaginations. According to creative director Trevor Beattie, Lynch was the only choice for the ad."

  • @TobeUK: Do you remember those PS3 commericals that were on TV a couple years ago? They weren't Lynch, but they were almost equally as bizarre. And what did they even have to do with the PS3? Hell if I know, but I certainly remember them.

  • @NeraFX they didnt have anything to do with the playstation so i dont see how they are great ads for selling a product.

  • @MarkP0rter: Does it have to be relevant? I mean, we already knew what the PS3 was and what it did.

  • Wow.

  • all of these david lynch commercials i've been watching must have been fore the european market, i don't think i've seen one on american television, except for maybe the obsession commercials, those aren't too weird

  • Man thats bad tasty lobotomy shit ! Very evil !!!

  • CREEPY!!!!!!!!!

  • i thought it was a charicature of david lynch's work, not by the man himself...

  • A Masterful piece of movart ,

  • the purpose is primarily make you feel more absorbed into the experience. the thumbs up and the man's reflection followed by him sitting with the duck and the bandaged man give me a great feeling of that. you know when you buy a video game you want to be amazed and immersed. I Think of everything but the couch as a loading screen, haha.

Did anyone else notice anything well tucked away into this gem?

  • I've watched it and rewatched it, and I'm not catching on. Forgive my ignorance, can you tell me what it is? :)

  • wtf!!

  • It'd be nice if us Americans got a weird ass David Lynch commercial.

  • Even a Blind man recongnize this ad as a Lynch's Ad

    Lynchian 1000%

  • @TheChosenOne2324 Except he usually kills a girl or two in his work.

  • what you just said was pretentious garbage

  • thats italian dude, and please stop calling other languages "foreign" as if the uk or the us were the center of the world... thats some pretentious crap

  • You might have a valid point, if not for the fact that the internet and youtube are American.

  • yes but not only american's can access it you retard!

  • So what? I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you don't know what comment I replied to, although you don't deserve it, as you called me a retard. Someone was complaining that someone called Italian a foreign language. Since this is an American site, there's nothing wrong with calling non-English languages foreign.

  • no it looked like you were implying people who aren't American cant use it!

  • Comment removed

  • The Internet is in fact an English invention. America didn't invent the world you know, no matter how much you like to wish it did!

  • I don't wish that America invented the world. That is stupid in so many ways But I do know "America" invented the internet.

  • @TheSoSoAgnostic I'm sorry to disagree, but the internet was indeed "invented" bya brit scientist, Tim Berners-Lee, when he worked for CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research .

  • @MiguelDeCorella You are very confused. You really should check your facts before you disagree.

I'm mildly annoyed, and sort feel like toying with you, but I know why you believe this bit of fiction. Because I am a nice person, here's a clue. The World Wide Web is NOT the internet.

  • @TheSoSoAgnostic The world wide web is exactly the basis for what we call the internet today,. Now, You, can, try to convince us the University of Illinois are the sole responsible for it, when in fact what they did was just improve a previous idea, but then it's you who"s living in a fiction, ain't you?

  • It's an American site, so it is appropriate to call other languages foreign. You have a lot of nerve come to think of it. I would be ashamed of myself if I went to an Italian site and got offended if someone referred to English as a foreign language. Get over yourself.

  • actually he might be on spanish youtube , or any other localized version of youtube

  • If he was, he would have been in the Spanish speaking comments section.

  • what the fuck are you talking about? there is only 1 thread with the comments

  • I should have said in "a" (as opposed to "the") Spanish language comment section. This is an English language video.

What the fuck are you talking about, anyway? This video could be posted elsewhere as a Spanish video, where people would be in a Spanish comments section. I don't understand your confusion. It's pretty straight forward.

  • lol @ not understanding website localization

  • wat

  • @galosf So damn fucking right man!

  • @galosf : Well ;if the original movie were in English ;the commercial in English and all the Lynch's were in English, the most obvious reason is that the other languages are foreign .It's not mentioned here in the exclusive mode , rather as an explanation. It's not being pretentious .No tienes x q sentirte excluido o sentir q alguien es superior x q comentan en Ingles cuando la pelicula es en Ingles .Entiendes? I get it

  • @galosf your an idiot; "foreign" is used from a prespective, italians call others foreign in the same manner as the rest of the world.

  • @galosf well Chinese already has the most native speakers in the world. Hope your happy with how that one plays out -_-

  • It was self parody you fuckin moron. David Lynch is known for that.

  • This is still the superior version.

  • I just love how the smoke through his hair turns him into Eraserhead.

  • When I first heard Lynch was doing ads I thought "Brilliant, another artist selling his soul..."

But it looks like he's just doing whatever takes his fancy and the companies are *paying* him for it.

    Clever man.

  • wow, loved it.

it had "David Lynch "stamped on every second of this

  • Hi, just wanted to thank you all for the comments :)

I just think that lynch is one of the greatest minds in the world. i love his abstractism. it even has sense to him and all.

So, about the marketing thing someone told before, the purpose is not selling, its marketing for himself you know, he made some other commercials too, just to show his art.

the scream at the end its just....lynch style.

and i loved the Dave Chappelle conexion Bobls did. jaja. very true.

    byes!

  • I just want him to keep making these commercials, dont know how to play ps2. Is he still making more adds of the third place? Would this be in the white lodge or the black lodge ? ??????

  • What is the yelling at the end?

  • PLAYSTATION TWO THE THIRD PLACE! is what's said

  • This reminds of Dave Chappelle on standup:

"I smoke crack..... and my husband beats me!!"

    "got milk?"

This ad is insane and just proves that Lynch is one of the weirdest people ever to grace the earth.

  • How does that make you want to buy a PS2?

  • Even self-parodying Lynch is still pretty good Lynch.

  • great ahahaha welcome to david place

  • No, it's "welcome to the third place". It's a refference to Max Payne. On one of the tv's in the game it talks about a strange dream with a mirror and a flamingo which says something like that, in that voice.

  • whats with PS adverts? Theyre always beautifully abstracted.

  • This commercial brings memories back.

  • EPIC:O that duck is seriously fucking freaky. dear god.

  • Holy crap
