  • I understand the 3 successful Vanguard satellites are still ( 2010 ) in orbit. There may be plans to retrieve Vanguard 1 ( see article by James Oberg ).

  • amazing

  • I'm so proud that my Dad was a part of our first forays into space!

  • What part did he play?

  • nice man! my uncle was a usaf rocket engineer in 1970! nah! hes dead already!

  • @srn1kng19 That's awesome! What did your dad do?

  • Yes, I see the satellite model. Very impressive. For more

Vanguard video Spacecraft Films has a DVD called LIFTOFF

with a Vanguard section. Closeup ignition and liftoff are shown for both the fixed launcher and the retractable arms

and the roll jets are shown coming on before liftoff. Well worth purchasing for all the images of early US missiles

    (1958-1965).

  • Note that in the first six seconds there is a model of the Vanguard 1 satellite in the middle.

  • My dad is donating this video to the National Air and Space Museum. Note that in the first six seconds we are gathered around a model of the Vanguard 1 satellite.

  • Thank you for this really nice video! Any chance you have

    additional Vanguard films?

  • Wow! Thanks for uploading this bit of history. Weren't you precious! :)

  • I mean Richard, you are precious! Too cool.

  • This is my family in the first six seconds. Our father, Roger Easton, designed the Vanguard 1 satellite.
