Actually, His "stunt Cycle" made it.... All it needed was Evel to stop the recoil shock on the handlebars. As I recall, Quite a few "Stunt Cycles" completed their jumps successfully but Evel, ( Ever the showman ) felt compelled to "Thumbs UP" the crowd at the wrong times. He later learned that "thumbs UP" are for AFTER the landing.. NOT DURING!

Evel didn't use any space age, light as fuck, suped up suspension bike. He used a Triumph Bonnevile T120 (with a 650cc engine). Pretty good I think.

Are you kidding? Evel held several records until the late 90's and some until just a few years ago... and they were broken by maybe 1 car, or another small increment. He inspired just about every one of the guys who try these stunts today and is considered the greatest of all time.

The biggest mistake Evel ever made was go after Shelly Saltman with a baseball bat. Saltman later produced documents in both criminal and civil court that proved that, although Knievel claimed to have been insulted by statements in Saltman's book, he and his lawyers had actually been given editorial access to the book and had approved and signed off on every word prior to its publication.
