@honda4004 Well I do know if you use aluminum for 1 electrode, you can input ac power and electrolyze water without dc. Why this happens, I don't know.

I think because the electrons that are ac are only moving a very small amount; the electrons on the edge of the aluminum are able to move to the water but not able to move back to the aluminum. Thats just an idea, I don't really know.
