  • Michael Kay's radio call--1:16--was ridiculous, man! I remember hearing it ALL DAMN DAY on the radio the next day. It was fuckin' awesome! Dude lost it...

"And the "3-2"...SWUNG ON AND DRILLED DEEP TO RIGHT, THERE IT GOES! THAT BALL IS...GONE!!!!! A GRRRRRAND SLAM--INTO THE UPPER DECK--FOR TINO MARTINEZ! AND THE YANKEES LEAD 9-5! SEVEN RUNS, IN THE SEVENTH INNING, IN THE FIRST GAME, OF THE BEST-OF-SEVEN WORLD SERIES! OH WHAT A HOME RUN, FOR TINO MARTINEZ!"

Too bad he didn't say "C-YA!!!"

  • Grantland!

  • GRANTLAND.......

  • Everyone not a Yankee fan knows he struck out on the 2-2 pitch. Yet another sham, even Michael Kay knows it was a strike. It was "down" at his knees. Shocker that the ump was Rich Garcia, the same clown who blew the Maier debacle.

  • @thecyborg .... bad calls get made all the time. It's a judgement call. It's part of the game. The Yankees swept them...do you really think one pitch would have made a difference as to who won that WS? Please, no one was going to stop the Yankees that year. And guess what, if Tino would've swung and missed instead of hitting the grand slam, everyone would've forgotten about the "bad call."

  • Tino>Teixeira... Tino>Arod, Teixeira, Swisher

  • SPANKEES

  • that was strike 3 folks. that whole world series was tainted.

  • @CVCreationStepper no it wasnt, the ball was dwn n quickly brought up by the catcher to make it look like a strike, tino admitted it was the right call

  • @CVCreationStepper Considering that it was a clean sweep, that's a joke.

  • @CVCreationStepper ...the whole world series? LOL. The Yankees swept them...one pitch did not make the difference in that series.

  • i love the beer spraying into the air

  • that pitch was good. they got hosed...

  • There are so many bad calls in baseball, so if you're going to bitch about one... bitch about them all. Grand slam is a grand slam, suck it haters.

  • He brought his glove down... to the top of your knees. How much better could you throw a pitch? What a joke!

  • that was a strike, the padres should of won game 1 and would of won game 1 had the ump got the right call, but san diego wouldnt of won the series, typical yankees getting calls to go there way

  • @TheUltimatePhillyFan lmfao he still mad bout 2009 lol get over it you sounds like a redsox fan dtfu and if u hate the yankees so much why are you watchin a yankee video?....lmao watch the Dbacks beat ur ass in the postseason

  • was 3rd strike..............

  • Lol such a strike

  • Yankess can fuck each other with ther steroid dicks

  • @SOLIDSNAKEXXX360 redsox fan are you? steroids? how bout ortiz and manny lmao get over it

  • That was a strike

  • I dont root for the Yankees but I dont hate them. They have been a good baseball club for decades, and they deserve respect.

  • Check out at 1:24 Some dad is shaking his kid like crazy haha

An amazing moment - Tino will always be my favorite yankee

  • HORRIBLE CALL. The catcher's mitt NEVER goes below Tino's knees. The Yankees got so many calls (Jeffrey Maier, this, that horrible call in the 1999 ALCS on Offerman) that they must have paid the umps. What a travesty.

  • If that call was a strike, the padres would have won the world series.

  • @Yanksuck18 im pretty sure the yankees swept the padres

  • @Yanksuck18 haha that makes me laugh. The Yanks swept the Padres in 1998 and the Yankees set a record winning season that year. This team goes down as one of the best Yankee teams of all time (up there with 1927 and 1961). And you can't say we paid for all our players bc here are a lot of home grown players including Pettitte, Posada, Jeter, Rivera, Williams, Hernandez, and Mendoza,

  • I'm not a Yankees fan but Tino Martinez is awesome! I like the way Tino swings the bat and contacts the ball, I wish Tino was a Dodger

  • Ump got it right. Ball was waaaay low. Almost bounced up there.

  • Come on Tino, I love you man but anyone who has ever seen a ballgame knows that was a strike. That said, I fuckin love Tino.

  • when tino walks to the plate he looks like he means business :)

  • The 2-2 pitch was in the strike zone, however, if the ump consistently called this pitch a ball, then it makes no sense to change this. All pitches and hitters want is consistent calling from the umpires. In a game of balls and strikes, I am sure that there were balls which were called strikes as well. Then again the timing of the call is critical too. This game is already in the books. Ask Galarraga about that!

  • that 2-2 pitch WAS A STRIKE....!!!!! come on

  • Comment removed

  • Need to show Ricky Ledee who set that slam up

  • I dont hate the yankees but that was B.S. that was a Third Strike and the Damn home plate umpire gave an extra out to the yankees.

The Umpires have done this many times to the yankees, they always give the borderline strikes to the yankees. If the yankees catcher posada caught that, umpire calls it a third strike.

game 1 MVP Home Plate Umpire.

Remember the bogus jeter home run in the 1996 alcs? Umpire helping yankees win playoff wins.

  • @gfscarface13 u mad

  • Give the MVP to the Home Plate Umpire for game 1.

Great strategy ump, expanding the strike zone for the yankee pitchers and tighning the strike zone on the padres pitchers. Good job Ump ;)

  • @tatomuck18 you fucking retard.. close pitch could go either way, how was it a strike? @pelorojo7 how am i pathetic? u fucking nigger stfu u fucking padre fanboy. @remedave stfu nigger ass hole, ur not fucking funny

  • at 0:42

HOW WAS THAT NOT A STRIKE????????????

  • @tatomuck18

    haha. It was close!

  • @tatomuck18 it was down, the catcher pull it up real fast to try n fool the umpire to make him call a strike

  • @tatomuck18 the play waz called right by thee umpire the catcher pulled the ball up very fast like tht he would fool thee umpire but the umpire knew it waz a ball but anywayz GO YANKEES!!!!!!!!!!

  • I love how those 2 fans in right field (at 1:21) throw their beers into the air. What's a $10 beer when you just saw your man hit a grand slam in the World Series? Not to mention right at you!

I have nothing against the Padres, and I wouldn't mind a rematch in the 2010 World Series. But... They'd already blown a 3-run lead in the 7th, so their fans have no one to blame but their own team. It was already 5-5 when that questionable pitch came over.

  • Worst ball 3 call ever. Changed the game and the series.

  • this was my favorite yunkeye moment. i call them the YUNKEYES. cause their my Yankeezz

  • ah...that was a great season, 1998. GO YANKEES!

  • red sox won more world series, yankees bought more world series

  • @TonyPizzaro keep hating. Thats all Red Sox fans have skill at xD

  • @TonyPizzaro

Um, the Yankees won 27 World Series while the Red Sox won 7.

Did you take any math classes? Nope.

  • @BKrystall FUCK YOU

  • Fuck Tino Martinez

  • 12 years later and you SDfags are STILL mad

    >padres

  • @drifter316 wow nothing more sad than a fag living vicariously through his team. Funny I didn't see your fat ass lifting the World Series trophy with Jeter, and Brosius.

  • @pelorojo7

i like how when it serves your point you make it seem as though only yankee fans/ me do this with their teams when in fact probably all fans do it.

but please continue being mad about something that happened over 12 years ago please, it makes this all the more enjoyable.

if i were you i'd concentrate more about how your team choked away the NL West and saw the Giants carry away the WS trophy.

  • lol they never proved tat a rod did steriods anyway.. i bet he didnt cuz after his surgery 1st pitch was a home run.. he didnt change a bit

  • @ky1eduffy56 you're a pathetic idiot

  • What DVD Is This From?

  • @ThomasMania24

That's because you guys aren't playing. It would be weird if fans got involved and ends up hitting home runs and making plays...

  • @HappyHookerTV wow how can you hate on a city? what do you want a civil war or something huh? you southern poor man

  • @remedave You're prob a cocnut head Jamaican who isn't from my country. Doesn't the coast guard turn you funky AIDS infested niggers away whileletting the prettgier cubans reside he?

  • @celticwarrior24 listen who cares what you think about black people. As long as I cant keep fucking your women you can kiss my nigger ass cracker hahahahahaha Oh and my white wife says to tell you she likes her meat well done

  • @HappyHookerTV shut the hell up you sound stupid as if southern people arent scared to come to new york. Just last week I had a bunch of southern friends come up for a visit and she was all timid couldnt even move always wanted to stay planted to me when someone would stare at them they looked as thought they wanted to shit there pants. We beat you fags in the civil war and we will always beat you get over it fried food eating fat fucks

  • @elwino619 yeah all southern people are racist fat dirty trash talking friend food and mash potato eating use a wire hanger as a antena trailer park suspender wearing let bear drip over their fat as belly sums of bitches hahahahaha

  • @remedave And (based on my experience in living in the BS apple) Nyers are a bunch of phonies who take way too much pride in a city that treats teh average denizen like shit, where, unlike the south, where men are GENTLEMEN, the men are misogynist (do you even know what that means) POS who hate womyn, hold womyn to double standards, not want to be men and be taken care of by womyn, and think that being a real man, esp the jamacians, is beating up on womyn.

  • like your dad?

  • Touch 'em all Tino. Like Reggie Jackson, Touch 'em all.

  • dam good ol times

  • why did Michael Kay call the pitch at 0:42 inside? that looked clearly outside

  • i was at that game. right below where it landed. i had beer poured on my head

  • What a great moment that was! I was definitely watching that game back in '98! 1998--GREAT SEASON!!! Topped with a World Series title. Well, another! :) Great Yankee times seem to repeat itself...does 2009 rival 1998? I don't know... Me? I'll say no. But this season was pretty damn close.

And "LOL!" @ Michael Kay's radio call (1:16). I damn sure remember that. I remember hearing it ALL DAMN DAY on the radio the next day! It was awesome! That dude lost it. It's too bad he didn't say "C-YA!!!".

  • what's up butthurt San Diego fan?

  • FUCK San Diego!

Goddamn clowns! :) They played in a ballpark named after a fucking pet store. LOL!!!

    LET'S GO YANKEES!!! 27!!!

  • @HappyHookerTV I bet you are from the south you have to be they are always hating new yorkers. did your grandfather tell you about the civil war? IF SO THATS PROBABLY WHY YOU HATE NEW YORK

  • @remedave Nope! I hate it because it's a misogynist hellhole where I lived for two excruciating years. LOL @ the civil war comment. Funny how you guys act like everyine - esp from the south is stupid - I guess that's why I was smart enough to move from that misogynist, suppression of civil rights esp for womyn, OVERPRICED WAY OVERHYPED hellhole and move to the land of sunny and cheaper real estate (for a popular city) So how's your room where you lived stacked with 300 other ppl and your 3 jobs?

  • @remedave Go back to your little room with three jobs and miserable weather whyile I enjoy a nicde sunny life in Cali living in perfect weather. What an idiot. You take pride in baseball, in douches who make millions pazillions just for throwing around a ball who would never give your black ass the time or day or any money too! LOL! Yeahy, you really rep NY. Even they KNOW you're a loser! LOL! Hey, BTW go argue with BLOOMBERG for better jobs, a better life; hey, maybe a ticket to Cali

  • @HappyHookerTV You are a expert at being dumb who cares about weather? this is about baseball you numb nut. Also new york is the best all around city. It has the largest population out of all cities so fuck cali and fuck you to hahahahahaha

  • @HappyHookerTV ok come back and say that in the right town hmmmm how about brooklyn

  • @remedave Yes, and why don't you move to New Orleans where, unlike NY, we won't SAY we'll fuck you up, like big bag Ny'ers like tol do, but we WILL fuck you up without warning. Nyers ae big talkers; they like to talk game. As the old saying goes, those that can't, teach. Those that can...well, you know

  • The Yankee haters are dumb. And will you stop with the steroid talk because every single MLB team had steroid users. Philly got beat by the better team so stop complaining.

  • @jziglar

    Thank you.

  • Phillies LOST. Ha..the better team and city won. Phi is well known for its classless, low class fans, anyway.

  • One of the greatest Yankee moments of all-time!

  • The pitch was below Tino's ankles and framed by the catcher. Just like 98 the Yankees are the champions again. So get over it.

  • Haters are jealous, more hate next year when we win #28 you clowns.

  • @twinsnyc how'd that go?

  • @neerrg What station were the Redsox playing on? thats right they weren't in the playoffs...LOL...Asshole

  • @twinsnyc lol whatwas that bitch by? somthing aboutt #28? what? ohhhh noooyou got bitch SLAPPED BY TEXAS..HAHAHHA FAGGOT. YANKEES LOSE.THEEEEEEEEEEEEEE YANKEES LOSE. now show me steinbrenners grave so i can piss all over it hahahhha

  • @norjak71

I'll just show you to the asylum instead.

  • As a Padres fan, watching this Martinez at-bat is like watching a train wreck- I can't turn away, as ugly as it is. as much as I don't want to, I'll go with the Yankees over the Phillies in 7.

  • @BoltPads

    Thanks.

Anyway at least you guys have Adrian Gonzalez, if your team give him to the Red Sox, they'll make sure to clean out their FS if you know what I mean :)

I wouldn't mind if your team comes around one day...

  • Holy shit, that was right down the middle.

But no, that does not give the pitcher any excuses for throwing a fat one after that.

  • i saw this on the YES network....awesome... sucks that the yankee games are blocked out in fl..i grew up in ny so i could see the games no matter what..rays suck and i miss ny :(

  • The pitch was below TIno's knees before the catcher brought his glove up very fast. Technically, a pitch below the knees is a strike.

  • Tino didn't strikeout, the pitch was framed by the catcher, it was low below the knees, it is not where the catcher catches it, it is where it crosses the plate and the previous pitch was a ball, they even slowed it down!!! It turned the series, they were losing big!

  • yeah tino should've struck out, but what a grand slam...ahhh the memories...i remember being in a restaurant with my family and watching tino knock it out.....classic yankees moment!!!

  • Tino's Yankeeography makes me cry everytime

  • I love this show. YANKEEOGRAPY Tino Martinez

  • im a yankee fan and i gotta say it was a strike. but im glad the ump called it a ball lol :)

  • amen lol

  • What are you guys talking about? The catcher must have fooled you guys as well because before he caught the ball it was clearly below the knees. But it's cool my fellow fan, lets hope we get our 27th championship, and make baseball fans even more jealous.

  • ya tht was only the padres perfect season ever nd so umpires make really bad calls all the time

  • I miss the old stadium. So much

  • I'm a yankee fan and that looked a lot like a strike even in slow mo replay

  • arent u glad it wasnt called tho lol

  • undoubtedly a strike. i'm also a yankee fan.

  • These are my fondest baseball memories from when i was a kid.

  • me too when tino hit that grand slam that was the greatest moment in my life up to that point lol

  • Worst. Call. In. History.

You'd have to be blind to not see that was a strike. It was right over the knees. That call destroyed the Padres perfect record of not being swept the whole season.

  • wanna cry about it?

  • You sound like the crier. I'm simply stating it was an awful call, and you know it.

Fucking Yankee fans and their egos. You wouldn't be shit without your payroll.

  • jealousy?

  • The sounds of jealousy from people like you feed our ego, so please, keep it coming!

    - A proud Yankees fan

  • HAHA fucking dumbass. You know it was a strike! You know it! The announcer knew it! How is a universally horrible call equate to jealousy?

  • Why would we be shit without our payroll? We develop plenty of talent despite the money we have to buy the big names. Unlike other owners of baseball teams, the Steinbrenners do not keep most of their money in their pockets, they use it to win. And even if we did not have the money we have, players would still want to play in New York due to the teams amazing history, and an ownership who cares.

  • Don't pay attention to the yankee haters. They are just jealous

  • @Xeldominicano2k were not jealous.......i'm from philly and everyone on the yankies is rather ASIAN or jacked up on steroids.....the phillies use actual TEAMWORK not just lucky steroid hits an asian illegal immigrants......so sTFU. i would never be jealous.

  • Please... You just mad at Hideki Matsui for beating you guys up. And Teamwork? Chemistry? I admit they did not have much of that in the past but this year they probably had the BEST Teamwork in baseball. You are jealous, don't lie. Youre just going to email me back about how we bought the WS and yada yada yada don't wanna hear cuz you know what? NO TIME FOR LOSERS CUZ WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS!!!!!!! Suck on that and go sulk to yourself while we celebrate. No reply.

  • @quadrelatera

    Jealous alright.

  • @quadrelatera no one in new york is jacked up on steroids. But I bet you didnt know phillie sstar JC remero uses steroids hahahaha.

  • fuck yeah!

  • Tino!!!!!!!!!! he was the best!!!!!!

  • I remember watching that game with my g/f at a sports bar/resturant and calling Tino's grand slam.

  • yea i remember this too i was in times square watching this game where in ny do you live?

  • Camera

  • Granted I was young,I miss these days terribly. :(

  • yanks 4 life bitches

  • Watching this shit makes me rehate the yankees all over again. Please dont tell thats not a strike. If the roles were reversed Yankee fans would be all over the Ump. Jeffrey Maier, this pitch, the Timo perez HR. I used to feel bad for the yankees in recent years but watching their WS seasons of 1998-2000 I quickly remember why I hated them so much.

  • What I find so funny is that even if true, this is part of the game. "Oh it never would have happened if the ump called 100% perfect games....never would have happened if he didn't commit that error....never would have happened..." bla bla bla. The refrain of losers. Good calls, bad calls, errors, luck, they're all part of the game. Great teams take advantage of every advantage. Meanwhile, bad pitch calls happen to loser teams to, but no one is watching so no one cares

  • ahaha and that is the epidomy of jealousy.. at least pick a good reason 2 hate the new millenium yankees like steroids or a bloated payroll or mismanagement/misownership.. the 98-00 yankees were some of the best teams in history, particularly 98. u cant hate them they were all just incredible and not 2 many roid-heads except we found out knoblauch used but look at those teams jeter oneill tino brosius thats just great baseball man nothin there 2 hate

  • IT WASN'T A FUCKING STRIKE!!!!!!!

Look at the Catcher Dickwad!!!! He pulls the ball up.

  • It's not where the catcher catches the ball, it's where the ball crosses the plate. Could have been called either way but where the catcher caught it and what the catcher did don't affect the location of the pitch. The perception of the umpire may be affected by the catcher's actions and that may be why the ump called it low b/c the catcher tried to sell the pitch too much.

  • good times

  • i love how someone just threw his beer in the air haha

  • that was great when the bear poored out of the upper deck

  • yeah haha awesome!

  • i have two Tino's jerseys. He is the frist MLB player of whom I became a fan

  • Tino is a super nice guy too. My family was at Yankees spring training last week. Both my 9 year old and 6 year old got his autograph. My boys were holding their baseballs through the fence, when Tino got close to Logan, there was another guy squeezed in beside me and held his ball over Logan's. Tino signed the guy's ball and then got my other son's ball. Another lady asked Tino to sign Logans ball. So he backed up and signed Logans ball. That was pretty cool. My kids were excited.

  • I was at spring training from the 16-21 i got tino twice, i probably saw you or talked to you, since everybodys friends down there. tino was awesome

  • We probably at least saw each other. All of us had pin stripe button up jerseys on. I had an A-Rod and so did my 9 year old with glasses. My wife had dark hair with a Jeter jersey and so did my 6 year old boy. We were there a couple of hours before game time on Thursday the 19th. Tino is a class act....

  • yeah im sure i saw you guys or something. were you staying at the holiday inn down the road?

  • That pitch was right there, how can you call that a ball?

  • ik. I was glad that it was a ball though. But where did that miss. That was right down the middle

  • If you could see it was low.

  • someone has to put up those homeruns by tino and Brosius against Arizona in the 2001 world series

  • same umpire as the guy who ruled the ball that Jeffrey Maier caught was a home run. Interesting....

  • yeah the entire 90s dynasty was actually a gambling scheme...stop it you fool

  • Such a beautiful lefty swing. Miss that guy.

  • at 'a baby tino

  • i miss tino martinez. i grew up on him. i named my cat after him. i was watching house, and baba o riley came oon which was his song, so i had to look him up

  • mark langston the pitcher is a great guy, he got cheated, tino and the yankees got lucky!!!!! you'd understand if you were a pitcher!!!!!

  • dude it doesnt matter if hes a great guy...tim a pitcher as well and the ball was low... besides it was 11 years ago...let it go...

  • the funny thing was tino actually should've been out the pitch before, lol...the padres were makin a big fuss about that after the game, haha...oh well they had already beaten my stros that year...i didn't want them beatin my yanks also

  • i remember being in a pappadeux with my family sneakin up to sports bar to watch the game, lol....Blockhead and Tino came through in a big way....will never forget it....

  • Michael Kay has such a fake gay voice why is he voicing over other commentary
