Ok guys contrary to what red lobster restaurant would have you believe, lobster is NOT meant to be grilled. The lobster ends up being overwhelmed by the smoke from the flame. Smoky lobster is indistinguishable from chicken. All of the lobster flavor is lost. Lobster is one of the few foods in the world that is best steamed.
Of course! I was like most people, "wow, lobster tastes good. grilled lobster looks good. therefore, it must also taste good." But then I tried it, and the smokiness of the coals completely obliterated the lobster flavor, i was VERY DISAPPOINTED! And no, i didnt slow smoke them with mesquite and hickory over 12 hours. It was a quick grilling over charcoal.
Ok, sorry for the confusion. Mine is grilled over high gas heat so you are not going to get a charcoal/mesquite flavor. I admit, certain food is not meant to be smoked/bbq'd over coals. I tried it with asparagus years ago and it was awful...If you do the lobster this way over a gas grill, you'll love it! Thanks for commenting back and clarifying your previous post.
thanks for this video ..i learned from your good tips :) thanks .. i love cooking as much as to be on top of the food chain after watching cooking food tips .. lol thanks for sharing
I noticed that you did not season the lobster or sauce at all. Do you feel that salt is not necessary for this recipe? Also, what is the purpose of rinsing the tail?
You can add a bit of salt to the butter and water. I used salted butter and should have pointed that out. I usually rinse most seafood unless it is really fresh. I find that frozen, thawed seafood will sometimes have a slight fishy smell that can be rinsed away before cooking.
We got the special holiday sale at S & F. $8.00 per 5 oz. tail. Grilled em, dipped in melted butter and garlic powder....... Could have eaten about a dozen more.......
@ChefTips fyi most people add oil to the girl to avoid sticking but what people dont know is their turning it to early if u let it stay on longer it will release itself : )
Wow....sounds great....me and the wife just came back from Phuket and brought us 1 lobster tipping the scale at 930 grams and 2 KG of King Tiger Prawns. All up, about $90 worth of seafood, but damn worth it as we live in Laos and have no sea near us. I hope so deeeeelish after seeing your recipe.
Just wanted to stop in and say thank you. Diner tonight was a huge hit for my wife and our 5 friends. We did everything you did in the video but omitted the chives. My only problem in prep was that it was hard to get the meat to separate from the shell some when we split it.
I actually prepared the Lobster Dinner the next day it was awersome, I purchased two whole Lobesters and I am going to have the other one this weekend, thanks again for your excellent videos....
Hey where do you get this said "Chive Oil". I have asked people at my local super market if they have it. They did not or even know what it is. Please help!
The "Chive Oil" is just olive oil (can be extra virgin oil if preferred) with fresh chives pureed in a food processer. You can do this with other herbs too, such as basil or parsley.
@gizmotwadlebutt even if you don't want to cook lobster you need to try it.. its delicious. one of my personal favorites is a good lobster benedict for breakfast. by the way good video jason. i haven't grilled lobster before but now feel inspired to do so

Hey Jason, I love lobster, but I'm intimidated by the idea of cooking it myself because I have no idea how to clean or prepare them. I see some people remove the entrails and some people just go ahead and eat the entire lobster tail. Is it necessary to remove the entrails for health reasons? If so, how can I properly do this without tainting the meat? I hope this isn't too dumb of a question, but I think it will help me to find a starting point. I greatly appreciate any insight you can provide.
Thanks! I was a little nervous. But what is the water for? Also, thought you should know, I made your funnel cake recipe and my 7 year old daughter thought it the best! Thanks for making me look good!
Hi Jason. Just wondering why you're adding water? Doesn't that dilute the flavor of the butter which of course is my favorite part of the lobster....LOL I'm a regular Paula Deen when it comes to that butter!

seriously why would you rinse the meat? that makes no sense. That's just like washing a steak before you cook it.

Rinsing the tails takes off all the nasty moisture that the tails have been frosting in.
The flavor that comes from cooking the shell and the flavor of the meat is not compromised due to rinsing. Trust me! =]
