why does the combo sound so canny and muddy while the head and cab (@ 1:00) sounds so much tighter and clearer. Is it the speakers on the cabinet that makes the difference?

@ravenshield56 I really like black star amps. Would love u to listen to my music/guitar sound and see if u could tell me which blackstar amp i should choose for medium size gigging? cheer bro
It's really nice to hear this wide range of sounds! Most Blackstar demos I've found seem to be for metal (which I have no problems with, as a metal player myself), but it's always nice to know that an amp is not only great but versatile.
I need advice - I know next to nothing about amps, only got into electrics really recently... I want to play styles from blues, through Gn'R, to Lamb of God. I was looking at various combo amps but then it occurred to me that maybe I should buy one cabinet and plug different heads in? I was hoping there might be a one-size-fits-all cabinet but it looks like I was wrong on my thinking! Would I be better off buying combos instead? Thanks.
guys make a vid with the ht5 head and setting have to be treble 9 bass 3.5 middle from 3 to 4.5 and gain all the way up now the amp sounds like all the metalheads want and stop playing fucking blues and funk play metal thats what everyone wants
I'm not sure what to get....I have a Peavey Vypyr at the moment, eugh, and i've gotta choose out of the Line 6 pod x3, or one of these....I have no idea, any help? It's for bedroom practice and youtube stuff with a friend, maybe some jamming with a band every now and again.
@minedarea I have a combo and at the minimum it's pretty quiet, and ok for use in an apartment. But you'll be cranking it up more than you should, trust me. I know I do, and will keep doing it until a neighbour comes complaining. Hasn't happened yet, fingers crossed it won't!
It looks like a very nice amp!! But I have a question! Will it do fine for band reharsal? I mean, is it possible to play along with an accoustic drum?
How does the sound compare between say a 2x12 cab vs the 4x12? does it definitely sound better through a 4x12? Can I still use a 4x12 in my small practice room?
hi alan,..is that you from the "nimmo brothers".I saw you on The Antwerp bluesfestival in the '90's.Fantastic performance!!!!! Also 'hoax" was on that show,...what a time man!
Question: given the HT5's Celestian speaker is rated for 40 watts does that mean you can max out the settings without worrying about frying the little bugger?
@medude6652 The HT-5H is used to power the 4x12 at 0:58, although I should mention any amp rom the HT-5 range will power a 4x12. Even the new HT-1 sounds great through a 4x12!
@Blackstaramps I don't know if I understand... Let me ask this: Can the HT-5 combo work in conjunction with a cab to increase volume? Or will that simply shut off the internal speaker and you get the same volume from an external speaker?
@doublepennies If you look on the back of your HT-5, there will be 3 speaker outputs noted as '1x16 ohms' and '1x8ohms or 2x16ohms'
If you are using an extension cabinet, move the internal speaker from the 1x16ohm into one of the 2x16ohm speaker outputs and plug a 16ohm extension cabinet into the other 2x16 ohm speaker output.
Sorry if this seems unclear- an instructional video is in the pipeline. It is much simpler than I've made it sound!
If you get a chance, try it through a 4x12" Cabinet!
@doublepennies why do you want to increase volume?? just mic it and send it through the PA. the beauty of these amps is that you dont have to rape your ears to get a good sound
@Rogiercover depends how little. If your drummer isn't very loud you should be okay by mic'ing it. You can also run it into the board or a 4x12 and mic that.
@Stairwaydude Just started using my HT5 Head with a Marshall 4x12 cab and it sounds killer, easy loud enough for rehearsals with a band and probably even small pub/jam night gigs, but with a bigger room it wont have enough head room .. so I going to get the HT20 head for live.
Cool, I'm getting one this saturday. I have a 40 watt tube but need a practice amp so I don't have to crank it to three or four to sound good especially at night....Thanks,man..
@Blackstaramps Hello, how well does this particular amp take pedals? I have several pedals on my pedalboard but im curious as to how well this amp takes them before i buy it.
Also, very nice demonstration...this little amp seems like a steal
I have tried to email Blackstar 5 different times and I got not one response. I am hoping their email button on their website is having problems. Anyway here are two questions I hope you can answer. 1. I have a Blackstar Stage100 head. Why does the Clean ch. only have controls for Bass & Treble, but Ch. 2 & 3 the gain ch. have controls for Bass, Mids, Treble? Question 2. What settings should I start with to get that SRV sound? I heard it before & all he used was the Clean ch. Thanks in advance.
