Very helpful video but I believe the young host is mistaken. Just the act of ripping the copyrighted DVD is illegal. The laws that govern this matter do not differentiate between private or public use.

when I click on scan, it scans the movie but it grays everything out so I cant really do anything for god knows how long and I'm only trying it with like 2 hour - 2 1/2 hour movies and it will take well over 5 - 6 hours and so I've never fully gone thru the process.... 1) why does it take so long, and 2) why won't it allow me to use any other handbrake options forr as long as it's scanning. please whoever knows the answer, comment back to me...

hey little man, don't know about you, but i was trying to put the first season of dexter on and after about 3 hours of it SCANNING, not encoding, i gave up. does it usually take this long to scan? the dvd has about 4 hours roughly of stuff on it, but should it really take longer than 3 hours to scan?

@pinedapedro1993 The time it takes to encode a dvd depends on your pc power, if you have a single core cpu it will take a LONG time (especially if you choose to use h.264 codec)...where is if you have a dual or quad core cpu with a large amount of ram it will take like 1-1.5 hours.

I personally have an AMD Quad Core system with 2gb ram and it takes me about an hour and 15-25mins to rip a 2-2.5 hour movie, and that's using the h.264 codec which is the better (but slower) codec of them all.
