Dude, yes, I KNOW that BJ competed in judo tournaments, but when he did so, he was already training in BJJ! He started BJJ at 17 years of age. Prior to that, the only sport that BJ did was a little bit of youth soccer. That's it!
Okazaki brought in a couple of Kodenkan Judo guys when he faced the Judokas and his guys lost evey match check the history this anyway can anyone show me the sparring videos.
@SuperKenster1 lmaooooooooooooo Cerotes can't fight for shit, lmaoooooooooooooooo EL SALVADOR IS A DIRTY POOR, SHITTY, UNEDUCATED COUNTRY WITH NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO ACCOMPLISHMENTS
@SuperKenster1 I'd say BJ Penn was successful when he easily defeated Renzo and Rodrigo Gracie. I'd say Matt Hughes was successful when he demolished Royce and Renzo Gracie. I'd say Sakuraba was successful when he defeated numerous Gracies. Need I go on?
@SuperKenster1 You said that no one was successful against the Gracies. I've simply given you several examples of people who were successful at defeating Gracies. THAT'S my point.
@mrkitanai1 I would at least research this material before posting, B.J. was a student of Renzo and Matt learned BJJ as well, the only true Grappler without BJJ was Sakuraba who also knew as anyone learning Judo also followed the same path as Maeda one of Kano's top students, anyway at least ask someone who knows the history.
@SuperKenster1 I did not know that BJ was a student of Renzo. I knew he was a student of Ralph Gracie, but I never heard that he trained under Renzo. Also, it's not because of BJJ that BJ Penn became so good. BJ is good because he is special. He was simply born to fight. He would have been dominant had he taken up wrestling, judo, boxing, muay thai, or any other combat sport. BJ started giving Dave Camarillo trouble after only a few months of training! He's the Prodigy!
@mrkitanai1 Fighters are made not born B.J. had a long history in competitive Judo before Bjj and in Hawaii with the big Asian influence a few other things as well but not every art is suited for combat capoiera and akido kali escrima just to name a few
@SuperKenster1 BJ Penn DID NOT have any judo experience before he started BJJ. Also, you said that Kali/escrima is not suited for combat. Please tell me that you are joking.
@mrkitanai1 You really need to research this stuff before comitting to a post B.J.Penn is all over youtube as a white belt and as a Judoka and bjj guy I know this stuff as everyday walking around knowledge.
I'm so sorry for my ignorance but, what is the diference between BJJ, and Jiujitsu, as far as i know they're both about Grappling, anything else someone can tell me?
@elchacal31 Wally Jay's juijitsu comes from an unauthenticated source BJJ comes From Maeda one of Kano's best Judokas.Additionally wally made absurd claims to having taught Bruce Lee Grappling Arts and having been a Judo Champion both false. The record reflects that Gene Lebell and Heyward Nishioka were Lees grappling Partners additionally the Judo Champions in Wallys era were Lebell, George Harris, Bruno, Ben Campbell and a few others as authenticated by usa judo.
@SuperKenster1 Now I KNOW for a fact that you don't know what you are talking about. You say that Wally Jay is in the same "era" as Gene Lebell??? Buddy, Wally Jay is probably 15+ years OLDER than Gene Lebell! That's NOT the same era! That would mean that, when Gene was in his prime, say when he was 25 years old, Wally Jay was already 40+ years of age!
@mrkitanai1 Yeah you don't know what your talking about if Wally competed in the Masters division of Judo a 10-15 year difference in age is a non factor. ...Participate then post!
I was honoroed to be a student of Professor Jay and later Sensei Fairfield once I got to Alameda High. I have been on the "recieving end" of this dance and can assure you that he encouraged you to try and throw a punch...I've got a pretty high tolerance for pain but I never saw anyone able to hit him. I was sad to hear of Professor Jay's passing. RIP
RIP Professor. I never got the chance to meet you...my teacher is so lucky to have been able to have the honor to eat lunch with him about a week before he died
@fightluv trust me if you were to swing I can assure you that Wally would break your fingers in the process, and dont say "well I'd fight thru the pain" or some other macho bs cuz I hate tell ya but u wouldn't. You will scream just like everyone else because you are human. Also please show some respect! You may be able to out muscle Wally since he's 78 in this video but SCJJ is not about strength it's about using your enemy's force against him. I doubt you could even touch the guy let alone pun
Idiots it sounds like none of you really know about martial arts this the great Wally jay.No I pratice bjj too but it's not real jujitsu they took out the striking techniques come on bjj it's just graplumg
HA HA HA... "My style this... BJJ.... Your stlye that.... Old man.... wrinkled nutz".... HA HA HA.... "I would this... he wouldn't do that..... My sensei..." HA HA HA!!!! Works or not, He is in the history books. And you fucksticks, study his books in your basement while jacking off the dog saying "That won't work..... he just..." HA HA HA!!!!! Hop back under your mommas skirt.
@HCDxGaming Also, I was referring to his SON LEON, NOT Wally Jay himself. His son has started being involved in a LOT of the Dillman stuff. So, that is what I was referring too.
@HCDxGaming LOL Just curious as I do have a Small Circle Jujutsu book published by Wally Jay. And I do NOT "just sit behind a computer" I DO train. I ask questions to learn, and question that which seems unrealistic. It is the only way to find out the truth, and to expose the fakes. Also, there is NO SCJJ schools around where I live. Although there are many karate, BJJ, Hudo, and Kung-Fu schools around me. So, I go to what I can. I still think Dillman (currently) is a joke and a phony.
@HCDxGaming i have no idea what this is in response to, but i just saw my name on your post. so im assuming that you must believe in some magical martial art that doesnt really work. oh, and about the whole me sitting behind my computer thing....what about you? how else am i supposed to make comments here without being on my computer? arent you sitting at your computer too? besides, im a Marine. im pretty sure i spend less time at my computer than you...hcdxGAMING
i dont see why people are talking bad about this vidoe. this is really just a drill, or way to go thru different locks. is this useful? i would say it depends on the situation. all martial arts are situational. they also must all evolve, and adapt.
Although I question his ability to get the first lock on an opponent, once he gets a lock on, you will be compliant. Compliant uke bull, this is pain compliance. Pain makes believers.
@fightluv you might get it. You might land it, the question is are you so much better at landing that punch than he is at taking it and moving on?
are you better at getting out of his control(not just the locks but his distancing , his avoidance, his ability to hit back) than he is at avoiding yours? you may be swinging like a gorilla but if he out plays you it won't mean much. His ability to control and hurt you is pretty legendary.
Don't forget this is just a drill for demo purposes.
@tarzan99 god i hate people like you, it shows their techniques, thats it, they call these magnificent things "demonstrations" for a reason...if you wanna see sparring techniques look up sparring techniques and stop bitching
So... Tough guys, which one of you volunteeres for a "real" fight with Prof Jay to find out how effective the joint locks are? Obviously we take care not to injure each other during practice but just because you do not see fingers, wrists, elbows and necks (and knees, etc) broken or dislocated, it does not mean we would not do that in a real fight.
No, I do danzan ryu jujitsu, although I have not practiced regularly for a long time now. But I have been to weekend seminars where Prof Jay was teaching small circle jujitsu class and I had the honor to take instruction from him. It does hurt. A lot. That is part of practice. Hurting is okay, injury is not.

Wally? Not in a million years. Keep me the Hell away from that: by all accounts the man knew what he was about.
Leon? Yes, please, any day of the week. Wally may have been an excellent technician, but judging by the quality of his protege he was no great shakes as a teacher.
@megafaka Titles have little to do with actual ability: particularly if you're the son of a style's founder, being named a grandmaster in it doesn't mean much.
i have the honor of possessing a signed copy of his book, given to me by my dad who attended his sessions. 110% swear by small circle. it works, especially for self-defense and obviously submissions/restraint.
Can someone please provide a link to someone using Wally Jay's small joint manipulation techniques in a live sparring situation? You traditional ju-jitsu guys are just too funny.......
Typical sports orientated BJJ guys, dam their funny. Mate we don't train for comps, we train for the street, Something BJJ lacks BIGTIME. Try pulling guard on some guy in a pub.... or a club... Head stompsville dude,
I suppose you think a groin kick is useless too, cause you never see it in Comps???Or an eye gouge?
Lol Oh and i dont train traditional Jujitsu, its modern Goshin Jujitsu.. All BJJ is Judo with a twist, ever fought a good Judoka? Or a good Sambo figher??
Train for the street? That is funny. Unless you hone your techniques on a resisting opponent, they won't work on the street (this is why Jigoro Kano separated Judo from traditional Ju-jitsu). You are clearly ignorant to BJJ because there is much more to the style than "pulling guard." Unless one sneak attacks their opponent with a groin kick or eye gouge, these moves are easily telegraphed. It doesn't say much for your art if you have to resort to tactics that any criminal would use.
Haha um mate we also do RANDORI every night 4 live resistance training, your the ignorant one im thinking. Yes we grapple and do ground work or NE WAZA every night.
Any real martial artist will tell you that in the street the ground is the last place you want two be but the first place U want your attacker..
Go back to your watching your UFC ...........
What U gonna go BJJ man if someone pulls a gun or knife?? Do they train you for those situations??I never said i was good at Engrish.
Knife and gun defenses are great but often provide a false sense of security. Any law enforcement officer will tell you that in experiences with armed individuals the gun usually discharges and people end up getting cut with knives during disarmament. A wrestling/judo takedown in "the street" will likely result in a knock out from the impact. Not everything has to go to the ground. Is Wally Jay a real martial artist? If so please link me videos of him against other martial artists.
Yea you right, you get into a knife fight your most defiantly gonna get cut, my Sensei says this, its just a matter of how bad.
Better to have some tools than no tools to complete a job .
Yes he a martial artist. He trained Bruce lee.
You obviously don't know where Judo and BJJ came from, that's right, Jujitsu. Jigoro Kano was a Jujitsu master before he created Judo.. all Judo is the the sport form of Jujitsu.
We all the best Judo throws in our system and a whole lot of Ne waza.
We do live Resistance training also, randori is a majour part of our system. I don't think small circle does tho.I also don't like small circle juiitsu tho mate. Its a bit weak for my liking.
The thing is BJJ doesn't train enough in throws, they basically train to take a guy so they can begin ground work.
BJJ take downs are weak compared to Judo and Jujitsu.
I hope you realize that the founder of BJJ was a Judo player. Pre 1920 Judo had different rules that it does today, It was basically BJJ .
While you are correct that many BJJ schools do not train much in throws, my school has a Judo and wrestling program in addition to the basic throws and takedown drills taught in our BJJ class. While Olympic Judo has limited ground work, Kosen Judo bears a strong resemblance to BJJ. Not all BJJ guys are ignorant of Martial history.
Yea having a Judo program in BJJ would make alotta sense.
Did you know in Brazil they never used the word Judo, instead they just called it Jiu jitsu, so really it should be called Brazilian Judo, as that's what Helio(R.I.P) and his brothers where taught.
And then read why he changed the rules of Judo after the 1920's, because his student where getting beating by ground technique of Jujitsu, He then changed the rules to stop that happening.
Kosen Judo is basically what i learn but with more modern self defense stand up in there, basically its MMA.
Now that professor has retired, His son Leon has been doing seminars around some of the states. Leon is awesome. I went to 2 of his seminars this year and they were great.
So many stupid negative comments. Prof Wallly Jay's locks are awesome and very effective. And as a sixth dan in Judo as well I think he deserves a lot of respect. I am a Karateka.
I do Small Circle Jujitsu and am taught by Leon Jay it takes moths do get a new belt for someone in my class didkarate and got a belt for doing a kartwheel she got her black belt in a week i have being do 5 years on off and im a purple belt going for y intermiedete green atm i think its a discrace that people let them think they are so good as a black belt like the moment som1 new came to my class who was a black belt in karate he got the crap beaten out of him... by White belts.
proud to have a signed copy of his book from when my father studied with him. very thankful that i have the opportuinity to learn!
he makes it look so easy its almost silly, no wonder people say things like "oh BJJ kyoshushinkai, blah blah". you really have to experience the helplessnes and the pain to understand!
Grabbing a person's wrist no more difficult than to take someone down, and it's not even that hard to take someone down if you know what you're doing.
It has been my privilege to study with Prof. Wally Jay and his Son Prof. Leon Jay since 1994. He is still alive though slowing down some. I saw he and his wife in the fall at their home and he was doing fairly well. For the skeptics I can assure you that there is no fakery, when he puts a lock on IT HURTS. I will, at the age of 54 be happy to prove to any 7 month student of BJJ that there is more to Jui jitsu than shooting in and getting the mount or the guard.
You do realize that all of these locks are being demonstrated are against non-resisting opponents, correct? How many BJJ guys have you sparred, because I have sparred tons of Budoshin Ju-Jitsu guys and wrecked each and everyone of them. None of this MMA stuff is new. Bruce Lee was talking about creating a perfect style based on taking the best from every discipline and discarding what didn't work. That was decades ago. You traditional martial arts guys have no conception of reality.
a typical bjj student, convinced of your own superiority. all i can do is offer an invitation to our dojo- if your ever in the midwest, and my apologies if your wrist or finger are broken
Typical meaningless challenge. What you really should do is show a video of these techniques working in a living sparring (randori) environment. Then the point will have been made. BJJ has proven it's effectiveness time and time again. Please show me small circle jujitsu's effectiveness, rather than simply stating how well it works.
Wait a second.......meaningless challenges.........and then you make the point that BJJ has proven it's effectiveness through meaningless challenges? Am I missing something? It would seem that if you want to see Small Circle's effectiveness, you've been offered the chance to do so via the so-called 'meaningless challenge'.
Are you aware that small-joint manipulation is illegal in MMA? Imagine how quick fights would in MMA if you could eye-gouge/rake, groin-strike, side-kick the knee cap. Point is, MMA has rules....its a sport, not real life.
@PRAKTISTHAI youre wrong. it is illegal now, but it was perfectly legal when the ufc started....and no one used those because its doesnt work as well as you think. besides, you can kick the side of the knee. raking the face?! really?!?! you think some scratches on someones face is gonna make them stop? and even though ufc is a sport, its is still the best way to train for the streets. they have bjj, wrestling, boxing, muy thai. no one needs to be trained on how to poke someones eyes out.
@PRAKTISTHAI I'm tired of these MMA has rules, MMA is a sport arguments. In the early days of the UFC, everything short of an eye gouge (which by the way still happened) was legal.
Yuki Nakai was eye gouged and blinded by Gerard Gordeau and still won by submission, heel hook, which if Yuki Nakai had torqued all the way would've left Gerard Gordeau limp for life.
You can also see Royce grabbing Kimo's hair in their fight.
Also, Joe Son got his balls smashed by Keith Hackney.
how come MMA tuff-guys always need 30 seconds to a minute to recover when they accidently get poked in the eye or kicked in the groin??? In the street there is no time out. I'm grabbing ur finger when the moments opportune and snapping it. You will cry in pain.
@PRAKTISTHAI you are really ignorant other styles if you think that a small-circle guy could do a finger or wrist lock on equally trained fighters. How could Wally do a wrist throw (te nage, right?) on a freestyle wrestler doing a double leg from an outside shot; how about finger lock a judo guy from a clinch; could Wally Jay do a wrist lock on kickboxer who alternates hand and leg strikes; finally, WWWD (what would Wally do) when a bjj fighter takes his back and puts him in a rear naked choke?
@slimrhcp You may not know, but Wally first started out boxing, only a fool persists trying to do one method the whole time. Wally is no fool. At SCJJ we dont just do finger and wrist locks, we box, use sticks, throws, pressure points, ground fighting, kicks, knife work, gun work, ranges all kinds. So no, he would mix it up. :)
@PRAKTISTHAI because its a sport, and there are rules in place in order for it to be sanctioned by athletic groups, so it then can be put on tv. the old ufc had no rules.
@PRAKTISTHAI Amen. Besides that the small circle is present in all techniques, it's actually a brilliant theory. If those would stop poking the my art is better than yours, than perhaps everyone could benefit and grow. I agree with PRAKTISTHAI, once I snap your fingers, or snap your arm, or fold your knee backward, roll your shoulder out of socket, stomp your teeth out of your head you will cry in pain. Better to know it and not need it - than need it and not know it.
I would love to see someone attempt this stuff against a resisting opponent. I would bet on a seven month brazilian jiu-jitsu white belt against a small circle ju-jitsu black belt any day of the week in sparring/randori session.
Is that so? Well then I would like to see this stuff utilized in a sparring situation. I am waiting. If there is no evidence of it being used successfully against a resisting opponent, then it is ineffective. BJJ on the other hand, is meant to be used against a resisting opponent, and is thus effective.
Dude it's just a demo. I'm sure that Prof. Jay would only use a small amount (if any) of these locks in a fight. I've been in Karate for 9 years, and the only move I'd ever use in a fight would be: Jab, cross, hook, heel palm, low side kick, thumb strikes, low front kick, grabs (fat, ear, balls, ect.), and bites. Maybe an elbow. It's hard to try every martial art tech. in class with-out hurting your partner.
It's bad enough you're being disreposectful to a Legend.but you are also extremely ignorant!
in what world ..is a 9month experience white belt gonna beat a BLACK BELT of ANY STYLE!!
look Kid stop letting Dana White LIE to you!! all that bullshit bout you beating tons of Japanese Ju-jitsu guys is bullsht and you know it.what is your experience? what is your rank who is your teacher? does he teach you to disrepect legends?if he does then he should be exposed!
Wally Jay is a "legend" that was anointed by other charlatans. Everyone can be an internet tough guy. Please private message me if you're ever in the Baltimore area, and we can have a friendly randori session. Forget the UFC, you must have never seen any of the videos of the Gracie family schooling traditional martial artists back in Brazil. I went to a Budoshin Ju-jitsu seminar just last month and I counted around a dozen black belts under the age of 18. Pathetic.
They don't allow small joint of finger locks in BBJ comps.. They don't even train for this . we do Randori just like the BBJ, start from the feet until submission
.. You no what.. I can get outta almost any submission with finger locks, there easy to attack cause there so weak compared to bigger muscle groups.. But u wouldn't no that cause you watch to much UFC!!!
Small joint locks are only effective if someone gives you their arm/leg. When you're mounted, how are joint locks going to be possible? Clearly you've never grappled with a good BJJ guy, whereas, I have grappled with "good" Japanese Ju-jitsu guys. I have never been impressed. Oh, and if you would like to make a cogent argument, you should probably learn that there is a difference between the words "no" and "know" and "to" and "too."
Why arnt they allowed in comps then??? please tell me why small join locks are not allowed in MMA also?? If their useless why not allow them? Because they know to many fights would have to be stopped because of broken fingers and the organizers know it..
Using proper grammar makes for a stronger argument. Small joint locks are banned from competition because they are un-sportsman-like, similar to biting, eye-gouging, and fish hooking. Congratulations on spelling the word "know" correctly, however once again the word you were looking for was "too." Once again please show me a video example of small joint manipulation being used against a resisting opponent.
Oh and everyone knows when someone has 2 point out spelling or grammar mistakes , they have nothing more intelligent to say, and there argument becomes 2nd place to below the belt insults and trolling.
I made a point in my last post that you could not address. "Small joint locks are banned from competition because they are un-sportsman-like, similar to biting, eye-gouging, and fish hooking." Place address the points I have made, if not, you lose.
A wrist lock is unsportsmanlike. Say's alot cause BJJ is a sport and Jujitsu isnt.. Thank you for pointing out that fact.
Also because to many fights would end with broken fingers and wrists, and people don't wanna see these well trained hardcore MMA fighters go down to a simple finger or Wrist lock.
And if its about winning and losing to you, and not the gaining more knowledge, i give up .
The most used escort technique used in law enforcement and crowd control is a goose neck wrist lock ...
The fact that BJJ is a sport makes it more effective in real life because all techniques can be practiced with full speed, strength, and intensity. Eye gouges and finger locks can not be fully applied because training partners would be getting permanently injured on a daily basis. You were the one who originally brought up comps, not me. Knowledge is best gained through application in a stressful situation, rather than allowing your partner to do a te nage.
BTW goose necks are frequently used in law enforcement as these types of techniques are easy to pull-off on drunk and stupid people. A decent martial artist will not get caught with one.
Yea but 2 martial artist's are not really gonna square off on the street are they, once you reach black belt, then you start to learn to fight other black belts.
You omitted an apostrophe; which one of us is the retard? The only way small joint manipulation works is if the limb is given to the person. Go try that stuff on a good wrestler or bjj guy. That's a recipe for getting tapped.
dude he can get into from anything. chock punch slap. It doesnt matter. and why do u care? why do people always need to think that there art is better then someone elses. Ive done this stuff and it works. So what does it matter?
An uke's appendage must be given to the tori for this technique to work. I have studied this stuff before, and it is not effective in real situations. BJJ/judo/wrestling are better than traditional ju-jitsu because they are practiced against resisting opponents. This ensures that efficacy of each technique is proven.
look, idk who u studied this with and im sure ur right...but wally jays techniques are so painful its impossible to resist no matter what ur doing. After all he is the guy who trained with bruce lee all the time, so hes gotta know something about this stuff...or else he wouldnt be famous and world renowned. BJJ is sick shit not gonna lie, but id say wally could kick the shit out of any one. Small circle works...prove me wrong
I have been reading these comments and i must say , the only thing that assails your grammar is your arrogance. I have worked in bars/ nightclubs for 17 years, and yes this works against a resisting opponent, you stay in your ivory tower though, friend being "right" is probably all you have
Please, shut me up once and for all by providing a video of Wally Jay or one of his disciples performing The Dance of Pain on a live resisting opponent.
people like u really piss me off. a dance of pain, tho it can very likely happen, is not something that most people would use in a fight. the point of this demonstration is to show how a u can control a persons body if you can get there finger. its not teaching people to do a whole dance of pain in a fight, just how to use a finger or whatever is given to you to gain a dominate position on your opponent
I'm sure if you brought your video camera, you could be shown personally......nothing convinces one so much as very personal pain and embarrassment. The Gracies backed up their beliefs with blood on the mat......what are you backing it up with? Internet rhetoric? Go accept the challenge, and then post the video yourself, proving or refuting your point.....when it comes to fighting, talk is VERY cheap......
I have had the pleasure of training with Sensai Boggs, and Angie Woolum in West Virginia, and, no, Professer Wally Jay is not dead. Is is 92 years old and still going strong. :D
I can also say I have had the privilege of doing this dance with Prof. Jay. I was very fortunate to attend a seminar he gave at Tony Maynard's dojo in Kernersville,NC. Thank you to two of the best teachers ever for sharing this "gentle" art.
Hey UltimaGreg if you talking to me. I totally agree with you. I not only respect him for his achievements, as being my uncle and his contributions. Definitely What I was trying to empahize is that it was still very much painful and my body was not ready and to help answer allnamestakenhowgay ?. I totally agree with you respect is very important.
Mind you I'm not small either I'm 5 '11 and have experience in Karate, Judo and Jiu Jitsu so I thought I would be a little prepared. At the Time I was 17 and in good shape. I'm sure I can speak with ease when I speak for those that have been demonstrated on. Uncle Wally's techniques are extremely effective and sore like hell. Your talking about a Gentlemen who's gotten numerous awards has over half a century of experience not only in Jiu Jitsu, but in Judo as well. He knows his Stuff.
Hey allnamestakenhowgay I didn't believe either even though Sensei Wally Jay is my Uncle. Because He has alot of experience he's able to anticipate what your going to do. Pulling your hand away quickly = more pain. I won't tell you what he did in the restaurant to me in front of our family in Hawaii. Sceptics walked in, believers walked out. IF U wanna know the answer to ur ? go meet him. U won't believe the amount of pain that U will feel when he grabs 1 of Ur fingers let alone 1 hand. :)
I love professor Jay's demonstrations... my dad was one of his students, (recently awarded a 7th Dan in small circle ju jitsu), and at 91, Jay still throws him around effortlessly for hours on end.
You probably can't even tap out much less punch him or pull away. I dig this very much. I wish there was a dojo in the San Diego area. The first time I heard of SMJ I was living in the bay area. This dude told me about it who was a practitioner at Wally Jays dojo, I believe. It would be interesting to know what his answer is to avoid being taken to the ground such as in Brazilian Jujitsu.
You have to be on the receiving end of Professor Jay or one of his students to understand that you CAN'T pull away from the technique. Your body naturally reacts to the pain and he has studied this closely enough to know exactly how you are going to react. We just saw him this weekend, and at 90 years old he can still make them dance. He's an amazing man who you have to see to believe!
Dude, yes, I KNOW that BJ competed in judo tournaments, but when he did so, he was already training in BJJ! He started BJJ at 17 years of age. Prior to that, the only sport that BJ did was a little bit of youth soccer. That's it!

I'm so sorry for my ignorance but, what is the diference between BJJ, and Jiujitsu, as far as i know they're both about Grappling, anything else someone can tell me?
elchacal31 6 months ago
@elchacal31 Wally Jay's juijitsu comes from an unauthenticated source BJJ comes From Maeda one of Kano's best Judokas.Additionally wally made absurd claims to having taught Bruce Lee Grappling Arts and having been a Judo Champion both false. The record reflects that Gene Lebell and Heyward Nishioka were Lees grappling Partners additionally the Judo Champions in Wallys era were Lebell, George Harris, Bruno, Ben Campbell and a few others as authenticated by usa judo.
SuperKenster1 5 days ago
@SuperKenster1 Now I KNOW for a fact that you don't know what you are talking about. You say that Wally Jay is in the same "era" as Gene Lebell??? Buddy, Wally Jay is probably 15+ years OLDER than Gene Lebell! That's NOT the same era! That would mean that, when Gene was in his prime, say when he was 25 years old, Wally Jay was already 40+ years of age!
mrkitanai1 4 days ago
@mrkitanai1 Yeah you don't know what your talking about if Wally competed in the Masters division of Judo a 10-15 year difference in age is a non factor. ...Participate then post!

@SuperKenster1 Also research Wally's false claims he taught Bruce Lee nothing this credit go's to Lebell and Nishioka (documented with pictures).

Garthwh 1 year ago
@fightluv you might get it. You might land it, the question is are you so much better at landing that punch than he is at taking it and moving on?
are you better at getting out of his control(not just the locks but his distancing , his avoidance, his ability to hit back) than he is at avoiding yours? you may be swinging like a gorilla but if he out plays you it won't mean much. His ability to control and hurt you is pretty legendary.

Can someone please provide a link to someone using Wally Jay's small joint manipulation techniques in a live sparring situation? You traditional ju-jitsu guys are just too funny.......
slimrhcp 2 years ago
Typical sports orientated BJJ guys, dam their funny. Mate we don't train for comps, we train for the street, Something BJJ lacks BIGTIME. Try pulling guard on some guy in a pub.... or a club... Head stompsville dude,
I suppose you think a groin kick is useless too, cause you never see it in Comps???Or an eye gouge?
Lol Oh and i dont train traditional Jujitsu, its modern Goshin Jujitsu.. All BJJ is Judo with a twist, ever fought a good Judoka? Or a good Sambo figher??
SudoJudo1 2 years ago
Train for the street? That is funny. Unless you hone your techniques on a resisting opponent, they won't work on the street (this is why Jigoro Kano separated Judo from traditional Ju-jitsu). You are clearly ignorant to BJJ because there is much more to the style than "pulling guard." Unless one sneak attacks their opponent with a groin kick or eye gouge, these moves are easily telegraphed. It doesn't say much for your art if you have to resort to tactics that any criminal would use.
slimrhcp 2 years ago
Haha um mate we also do RANDORI every night 4 live resistance training, your the ignorant one im thinking. Yes we grapple and do ground work or NE WAZA every night.
Any real martial artist will tell you that in the street the ground is the last place you want two be but the first place U want your attacker..
Go back to your watching your UFC ...........
What U gonna go BJJ man if someone pulls a gun or knife?? Do they train you for those situations??I never said i was good at Engrish.
SudoJudo1 2 years ago
Knife and gun defenses are great but often provide a false sense of security. Any law enforcement officer will tell you that in experiences with armed individuals the gun usually discharges and people end up getting cut with knives during disarmament. A wrestling/judo takedown in "the street" will likely result in a knock out from the impact. Not everything has to go to the ground. Is Wally Jay a real martial artist? If so please link me videos of him against other martial artists.
slimrhcp 2 years ago
Yea you right, you get into a knife fight your most defiantly gonna get cut, my Sensei says this, its just a matter of how bad.
Better to have some tools than no tools to complete a job .
Yes he a martial artist. He trained Bruce lee.
You obviously don't know where Judo and BJJ came from, that's right, Jujitsu. Jigoro Kano was a Jujitsu master before he created Judo.. all Judo is the the sport form of Jujitsu.
We all the best Judo throws in our system and a whole lot of Ne waza.
SudoJudo1 2 years ago
We do live Resistance training also, randori is a majour part of our system. I don't think small circle does tho.I also don't like small circle juiitsu tho mate. Its a bit weak for my liking.
The thing is BJJ doesn't train enough in throws, they basically train to take a guy so they can begin ground work.
BJJ take downs are weak compared to Judo and Jujitsu.
I hope you realize that the founder of BJJ was a Judo player. Pre 1920 Judo had different rules that it does today, It was basically BJJ .
SudoJudo1 2 years ago
While you are correct that many BJJ schools do not train much in throws, my school has a Judo and wrestling program in addition to the basic throws and takedown drills taught in our BJJ class. While Olympic Judo has limited ground work, Kosen Judo bears a strong resemblance to BJJ. Not all BJJ guys are ignorant of Martial history.
slimrhcp 2 years ago
Yea having a Judo program in BJJ would make alotta sense.
Did you know in Brazil they never used the word Judo, instead they just called it Jiu jitsu, so really it should be called Brazilian Judo, as that's what Helio(R.I.P) and his brothers where taught.
SudoJudo1 2 years ago
You should probably read about why Sensei Kano split from his traditional ju-jitsu roots.
slimrhcp 2 years ago
And then read why he changed the rules of Judo after the 1920's, because his student where getting beating by ground technique of Jujitsu, He then changed the rules to stop that happening.
Kosen Judo is basically what i learn but with more modern self defense stand up in there, basically its MMA.

It has been my privilege to study with Prof. Wally Jay and his Son Prof. Leon Jay since 1994. He is still alive though slowing down some. I will, at the age of 54 be happy to prove to any 7 month student of BJJ that there is more to Jui jitsu than shooting in and getting the mount or the guard.
rsjosephindy 2 years ago
You do realize that all of these locks are being demonstrated are against non-resisting opponents, correct? How many BJJ guys have you sparred, because I have sparred tons of Budoshin Ju-Jitsu guys and wrecked each and everyone of them. None of this MMA stuff is new. Bruce Lee was talking about creating a perfect style based on taking the best from every discipline and discarding what didn't work. That was decades ago. You traditional martial arts guys have no conception of reality.

Typical meaningless challenge. What you really should do is show a video of these techniques working in a living sparring (randori) environment. Then the point will have been made. BJJ has proven it's effectiveness time and time again. Please show me small circle jujitsu's effectiveness, rather than simply stating how well it works.
slimrhcp 2 years ago
Wait a second.......meaningless challenges.........and then you make the point that BJJ has proven it's effectiveness through meaningless challenges? Am I missing something? Are you aware that small-joint manipulation is illegal in MMA? Imagine how quick fights would in MMA if you could eye-gouge/rake, groin-strike, side-kick the knee cap. Point is, MMA has rules....its a sport, not real life.

@PRAKTISTHAI lol you are fuckin retarted. wat does mma have to do with any of this>
megafaka 1 year ago
@PRAKTISTHAI youre wrong. it is illegal now, but it was perfectly legal when the ufc started....and no one used those because its doesnt work as well as you think. besides, you can kick the side of the knee. raking the face?! really?!?! you think some scratches on someones face is gonna make them stop? and even though ufc is a sport, its is still the best way to train for the streets. they have bjj, wrestling, boxing, muy thai. no one needs to be trained on how to poke someones eyes out.
GJJalltheway 1 year ago
@PRAKTISTHAI I'm tired of these MMA has rules, MMA is a sport arguments. In the early days of the UFC, everything short of an eye gouge (which by the way still happened) was legal.
Yuki Nakai was eye gouged and blinded by Gerard Gordeau and still won by submission, heel hook, which if Yuki Nakai had torqued all the way would've left Gerard Gordeau limp for life.
You can also see Royce grabbing Kimo's hair in their fight.
Also, Joe Son got his balls smashed by Keith Hackney.

PRAKTISTHAI 2 years ago 26
@PRAKTISTHAI you are really ignorant other styles if you think that a small-circle guy could do a finger or wrist lock on equally trained fighters. How could Wally do a wrist throw (te nage, right?) on a freestyle wrestler doing a double leg from an outside shot; how about finger lock a judo guy from a clinch; could Wally Jay do a wrist lock on kickboxer who alternates hand and leg strikes; finally, WWWD (what would Wally do) when a bjj fighter takes his back and puts him in a rear naked choke?
slimrhcp 1 year ago
@slimrhcp You may not know, but Wally first started out boxing, only a fool persists trying to do one method the whole time. Wally is no fool. At SCJJ we dont just do finger and wrist locks, we box, use sticks, throws, pressure points, ground fighting, kicks, knife work, gun work, ranges all kinds. So no, he would mix it up. :)
UltimaGreg 1 year ago
@PRAKTISTHAI Because it's against the rules in MMA sports. A lot of people don't train to fight. They train for sport.

Pathetic.
slimrhcp 2 years ago
They don't allow small joint of finger locks in BBJ comps.. They don't even train for this . we do Randori just like the BBJ, start from the feet until submission
.. You no what.. I can get outta almost any submission with finger locks, there easy to attack cause there so weak compared to bigger muscle groups.. But u wouldn't no that cause you watch to much UFC!!!
SudoJudo1 2 years ago 2
Small joint locks are only effective if someone gives you their arm/leg. When you're mounted, how are joint locks going to be possible? Clearly you've never grappled with a good BJJ guy, whereas, I have grappled with "good" Japanese Ju-jitsu guys. I have never been impressed. Oh, and if you would like to make a cogent argument, you should probably learn that there is a difference between the words "no" and "know" and "to" and "too."
slimrhcp 2 years ago
Fuck what are you the literacy police?
Why arnt they allowed in comps then??? please tell me why small join locks are not allowed in MMA also?? If their useless why not allow them? Because they know to many fights would have to be stopped because of broken fingers and the organizers know it..
SudoJudo1 2 years ago
Using proper grammar makes for a stronger argument. Small joint locks are banned from competition because they are un-sportsman-like, similar to biting, eye-gouging, and fish hooking. Congratulations on spelling the word "know" correctly, however once again the word you were looking for was "too." Once again please show me a video example of small joint manipulation being used against a resisting opponent.
slimrhcp 2 years ago
Oh and everyone knows when someone has 2 point out spelling or grammar mistakes , they have nothing more intelligent to say, and there argument becomes 2nd place to below the belt insults and trolling.
Go drink some more HATERADE ya fucking troll..
How ya liking my grammar now ??,
SudoJudo1 2 years ago
I made a point in my last post that you could not address. "Small joint locks are banned from competition because they are un-sportsman-like, similar to biting, eye-gouging, and fish hooking." Place address the points I have made, if not, you lose.
slimrhcp 2 years ago
A wrist lock is unsportsmanlike. Say's alot cause BJJ is a sport and Jujitsu isnt.. Thank you for pointing out that fact.
Also because to many fights would end with broken fingers and wrists, and people don't wanna see these well trained hardcore MMA fighters go down to a simple finger or Wrist lock.
And if its about winning and losing to you, and not the gaining more knowledge, i give up .
The most used escort technique used in law enforcement and crowd control is a goose neck wrist lock ...
SudoJudo1 2 years ago
The fact that BJJ is a sport makes it more effective in real life because all techniques can be practiced with full speed, strength, and intensity. Eye gouges and finger locks can not be fully applied because training partners would be getting permanently injured on a daily basis. You were the one who originally brought up comps, not me. Knowledge is best gained through application in a stressful situation, rather than allowing your partner to do a te nage.
slimrhcp 2 years ago
BTW goose necks are frequently used in law enforcement as these types of techniques are easy to pull-off on drunk and stupid people. A decent martial artist will not get caught with one.
slimrhcp 2 years ago
Yea but 2 martial artist's are not really gonna square off on the street are they, once you reach black belt, then you start to learn to fight other black belts.
SudoJudo1 2 years ago
ya if you have a blackbelt you get it taken away if you get in a street fight plus the charges are heavier im not takin the test for that reason :p
pawnshopr 2 years ago

dude stfu. You cant resist it you retard.
Scammacca123 2 years ago
You omitted an apostrophe; which one of us is the retard? The only way small joint manipulation works is if the limb is given to the person. Go try that stuff on a good wrestler or bjj guy. That's a recipe for getting tapped.
slimrhcp 2 years ago
dude he can get into from anything. chock punch slap. It doesnt matter. and why do u care? why do people always need to think that there art is better then someone elses. Ive done this stuff and it works. So what does it matter?
Scammacca123 2 years ago

Prof Jay calls it Transitional Flow

I'm sure if you brought your video camera, you could be shown personally......nothing convinces one so much as very personal pain and embarrassment. The Gracies backed up their beliefs with blood on the mat......what are you backing it up with? Internet rhetoric? Go accept the challenge, and then post the video yourself, proving or refuting your point.....when it comes to fighting, talk is VERY cheap......

I have had the pleasure of training with Sensai Boggs, and Angie Woolum in West Virginia, and, no, Professer Wally Jay is not dead. Is is 92 years old and still going strong. :D

This is Tony's teacher. You'll never meet a nicer person than Wally Jay.
He is THE MAN. Oh yeah, and Ernie Boggs is the man too.

Hey jjlo, no it was someone else I think, coz as I remember, it was someone who was laying it in a bit, not yourself, sorry for any mix up bud! :)

@cricketfeet the problem is you wont be able to grab fingers when hes punching your head in.
