From what I know, the Federal money is OVER AND ABOVE what their own health insurance is paying. I am not against helping them out IF they are legitimately sick. Those buildings were loaded with asbestos. The office contents also had chemicals like mercury, led & all other kind of toxic building material. The Towers were a quarter of mile high. They should get medical care for life for any injury/illness they have for the rest of their lives. From what I know, the Federal money is OVER AND ABOVE what their own health insurance is paying. I am not against helping them out IF they are legitimately sick. There are questions though that some are simply milking the system.

Read up on asbestosis and silicosis; there's definitely a link between what they breathed in and, say lung cancer. If they developed melanoma, alright, sure, that's not linked to 9/11. Why do you think firefighters wear breathing equipment? It's because the smoke is toxic. Ask any firefighter and they are going to tell you same thing. Before breathing equipment, many firefighters got emphysema, lung cancer, and other problems because of the toxic smoke. Same thing with smoking cigarettes. They are small, yet they are cause cancer. Many of these materials are best for construction of buildings, etc, however if they start to burn for some reason, they are toxic. Police and fire can't necessarily regulate what is products are used, that's up to the local gov and states. So you don't agree they should get treatment then?

It sounds like they're not getting treatment at all. Isn't this a money issue? There are private organizations and charities. Emotions aside, this is increasing spending. I'm a tax payer, I'd rather give money directly rather than indirectly through tax.

@mastapho I would agree with this comment but charities don't really have much oversight, there are a lot of charities that end up getting the money for themselves first and then give it to those who really need it.

charaties only do so much and tax payers money can help a few thousand people who put their ass on the line like this. it was just the NYC departments it was responders from all over the country, and they are being told to just roll over and die. How can you live in a country like that? charities are very very indirect.

@lordblazer im not sure about charities being very indirect. I've worked with charities, they're more direct. I work on a personal level. And charities are smaller, more agile. They cost less to operate. Whereas tax money get diluted by the bureaucracy.

Those buildings were loaded with asbestos. The office contents also had chemicals like mercury, led & all other kind of toxic building material. The Towers were a quarter of mile high. Just imagine how much toxic chemicals that can fill. Not mention wtc 3, 4, 5, 6, & 7 which are building that most people don't know even existed that were also destroyed. Unfortunately rescue dogs were some of the first to die. Cancer would be the first thing to expect.
