@jasluvtian actually, baiyue meant everyone south of the yangzte but near the southeastern coastal regions, miao and yao people were also south of the yangzte but were not considered yue but just plainly nanman (southern barbarians), overtime, they were referred to as miao and yao though, yue were a mixture tai-kadai/austro-asiatic/austronesion while nanman were miao-yao people

Then vietnamese were north of them.living in today northern vietnam and part of Canton area. Beside the fact vietnamese has borrowed from most cantonese and some mandarin, the tones and the sentence structure,expression is alot like cantonese and thai and such. I know this cause i study cantonese. However cantonese vocabulary is much different from vietnamese. So that is why vietnamese is like the intermidiate of the east and south east parts of asia.
