A pretty good strategy I use is put the flag away rfom the bombs. Put the flag on the other side of the board of the bombs. And put your 10 9 8 and S around the flag take your 8 out to battle or like a 6 or 7 and find out where his bigger dudes are i did ths and killed my opponent and he always kicked my ass until i did this strategy

one of my favorite flag/bomb setups is flag in the corner. 1 bomb on the side, and one in front. know as the "corner blitz". But, i put 4's around those, then surround the 4's by bombs. this way, the opponent has to get through 2 sets of bombs.

@MAfr3ak Thats what I do. I keep the 4's near the bombs, only way to get though the bomb is with a 3. if they do. then the 4 is right there take em out. odds are tehy wil run out of 3's before they can get though the bomb/4 wall

i am always set the flag in the corner with 2 boms around and than 3 captains (6?) than 3 bombs so if they have a (bomb killer?) than they need to kill the captains too

No matter if the bombs die from detonation or not I circle the flag with 2 or 3 bombs then some weak units nearby capable of taking miners, that way by the time anything gets through my defenses my enemy is dead. I play mostly with high units but scout everything before I use the high ones on it - spy is used to block the movement of the enemy marshall but mostly my enemy dont fall for it, instead I abuse that a marshall can only be one place at a time and mow things down safely with a 9.

only if the 3 attacks it[defuses it]. so if anything other than a 3 attackeds it the bomb stays there and the person who attacked it will be dead.

Forticactions with bombs don't work. The best tactive is to mask the flag at the last line without bombs. I had filled my conners with two bombs and each a sergeant inside. I have learned to play with a spy always capturing the marshall and scouts that only make one step. A few months a go i played with the true rules and within 6 rounds i first lost my spy(before capturing the marshall) and my flag. I have to admit i don't like the true rules.

i put my flag in the right corner, and put the bombs up near the front right. to eliminate higher ranking units that may cause difficulty coming from there. to the left of the flag, i put some higher ranking units. after i think the flag is in a now, secure location i advance though the middle and fake the flag on the left, if possible, which is obviously difficult with this setup. the units to the left of the flag i placed can often take out miners. anyone care to share their setup?

With Stratego; do you permanently reveal a higher ranked piece attacked by a lower rank, or just for a brief period just to compare ranks?

Well, Stratego is a game about memory, and when a higher-ranking piece attacks a lower-rank piece, then the high-ranking piece wins.

I put my flag behind a lake and scatter the bombs. I'm always on the attack so my opponent rarely gets there.

I know the ultimate place to put the flag! Right next to the lake and place bombs around it! No one will guess that place. Everyone goes for the back corners.

Or even use 2 bombs for your flag in the corner(along with some 4's to protect against miners), 3 bombs in the other corner to throw them off(with a 4 in the corner), and one bomb somewhere in the front or maybe the center.

A book called "Stratego Piece by Piece: History, Strategy, Tactics and Deployment" reviewed each piece and how they should be used along with tips for set-ups and an incredible History section! This was out back in 2000. You can still get it with links at a Stratego site (I think Ed Collins) The work received good reviews in Europe and America.

How about putting 7's around your flag then bomb around them. If the 8 takes out the bomb let him die on the 7 next turn. I'd crush him in Stratego.
