I didn't know this was Sammy. That figures. This song was always way, way to cool to be of some prime-time tv jingle man. Though i always loved the series, the theme song stood out.
Sing it sammy. This cut is funky. Fuck those who hate on Sammy without Sammy we black folks would have had a even tough time in the music business he help open the door.
@oleold Black folks aren't the only ones that have been blessed by Sammy Davis' music. I know that you know this, I'm not telling you anything new. I'm white and have liked Sammy since I was a kid. Unlike "artists" today (of any color), Sammy had class about him. How could anyone "hate" this man?
Are you saying Beethoven didnt write songs then? Where's the singer? Can you rap? Probably not. It's different music. But, its still music. Don't be a snob. Music is a great thing that people relate to. Who cares if its not what you're into.
Beethoven wrote music. This is a SONG -as in SINGING. Rap is not singing unless the rapper stole ("sampled") it along with the bass line he stole from real music.
It's not a matter of what I'm "in to". If someone refers an obvious country song as one of the first heavy metal songs, they are way off base.
Singing is "Vocals set to music." Rap is a vocal style, nothing more. I dont even like Rap, but, for you to say rap songs, arent songs.. YOU are the one who's off-base.
I am going through a very tuff time in my life right now and I draw som much inspiration from the chorus of this song it just what I need to communicate to myself. many thanks to kind soul who posted this clip.
thanx for posting this it brings back memories off my childhood,my mum let me stay up late for this show and i was wild about the soundtrack, she even bouth me the single !
robert blake who played baretta should have taken his own advice on dont do the crime if you cant do the time. wrongful death suit and all. what is up with all these actors and celebrities going to jail and all?
There was a collage of Baretta fragments which functioned as a videoclip. Of course I was very very impressed with this when I was 6 or 7 and I still like the song as one of my favourites.
I looked this up in a Billboard top 40 book I have, and surprisingly it never made the top 40. This was such a great song, I'm surprised at that. It has "hit single" written all over it. Maybe it just wasn't issued as a single.
It was released as a single, but did not make the Hot 100.The theme was released by Rhythm Heritage(who also did Theme from S.W.A.T.) as "Baretta's Theme" and it peaked at #20 in June '76!
I heard Sammy was into beating small animals with a coat hanger while he had a wank

Sammy Davis, Jr. was a consummate performer and I loved watching him on TV. He knew how to entertain an audience and was a kick ass singer.

WOW!!!!! WHAT A TALENT. He was a dancer, singer, multi-instrumentalist (playing vibraphone, trumpet, and drums), impressionist, comedian, and actor.
NOTHING ELSE TO SAY.

This is an original song with a melody and an actual singer. Rap has none of that.

Great Bruce Willis line from The Last Boyscout Guy holding a knife to his nose says
"Just once I'd like to hear you scream in pain"
Bruce Willis replied
"Pay some rap music"

One of my father's favorite tv shows of the 1970's along with "Kojak' and "Sanford & son.'
PS Dumb question: Was this a 'single' and peaked on the 'top 40 billboard charts?"
IMO one of the top 3-4 best songs of the lengendary entertainer's carrer.

Sorry, I don't know it was on billboard or not? As your father, I liked TV series which name was 'Baretta'.

@USAGiant: Yes, this did chart on 20th Century Records (if memory serves me correctly, it reached #8 pop 1n '75).
