  • This game is one of my Prized possesions... cus I have it autographed by David Crane

  • that's exactly how i role dude :D i don't follow the croud!

  • What a great ending.

  • Always loved the sound effects in this game. Underrated Atari game in my opinion.

  • If you play it awhile you'll be able to play with your eyes closed

  • This was always one of my favorites. I don't know why. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought it was like reverse missile defense or Atlantis.

  • oh my god

    god of war

  • Oh Geoff, I hope your taste has improved.

  • If its activision its worth playing

  • LMAO EPIC

  • Geoff was right this is awesome.

  • So.. basicly.. just becuz u play a game wich was made after they invented FUN in games ur not free?

  • @GameRock123

Stop being an idiot, be free instead! :D

  • haha the commentary is awesome :D

  • Greatest review of the game laser blast ever seriously I give this review 5 stars best part is when it turned all patriotic that was crazy one of the best reviews I've seen in a long time

  • not HD!

  • I actually got the one million points on this game and the score converted to !!!!!!! (no numbers, just exclaimation points) and the game simply stopped. I took a polaroid of the screen ant it in and ABSOLUTELY NOTHING happened. :)

  • When he says "Lasers" at 1:55, I can't help but be reminded of Dr. Evil in Austin Powers.

  • Just an FYI, the documentation states that if you got one-million points and sent Activision a polaroid (no screen shots in those days), they would send you a check for like $15 or something. I got up to 400,000 after several hours of play at my friends' house.

  • ''FREEDOM!!!!!''

  • " Hey, I got Pitfall 2, wanna play? "

    " Na, I got laser blast. "

  • You're playing...LASER BLAST!

    Yeah...Laser Blast...having a blast firing my laser...

    ...wee...

    ...that didn't sound right.

  • I got this game for $1.00 and I liked it.

  • i love ths game. found it on the 32-in-1 cartridge of the atari 2600 jr.

  • I use to own this too.

  • fucking maniac

  • This game is E.T 2, you are piloting e.t.'s spaceship and taking him back home,in my imagination anyways. that's what i love about the 2600,it requires your imagination.

  • This was my first non-Atari made game for my 2600. Still love this game.

  • The cuddly, cute, adorable aliens didn't like our pointless wars and nukes, so started attacking all of earths armies so we'd go back to more honorable days of people attacking each other with swords and arrows in random fields. However, the story was changed when Activision, who had a time machine at the time, turned it into a video game. Also, on a more serious note, "Laser Blast" RULES!!

  • My original purchase of this game when it originally came out may well represent my earliest sensation of "Buyers Remorse". But not my last!

  • You used the Tex Murphy background music for this video!

  • Play Laser Blast in protest against the pressures of society!!!!!!

  • I cheered when you got shot down, killed a turret, and GOT AN EXTRA LIFE!!

  • THERE BE NO HD OPTION!

  • I play each level in, like, three seconds unless I'm shot down.

  • I just scored 346,680 on Laser Blast and my hand was too tired to finish. It was cramping up.

  • i need this game

  • @123kissfan Just go to 2600Onlinecom, There you go !!!

  • @dokkcrue71 #OMG thanks!

  • @123kissfan You are very very welcome !!!

  • This game looks to be about as much fun as a case of athlete's foot - scratching feels good at first but it gets annoying after a minute or so. (Is those three guns v.s. the saucer ALL THERE IS to this game? Lame-o.)

  • I have this game on the PS2 Activision Anthology. Unfortunately, it's way too easy to be enjoyable. You don't really have to "move all the time" just position your craft above where the first turrent will be, shoot straight down, hit it, move right a tad, shoot straight down and get the second one, and then get the third. If you do it fast enough it works every time. I score over 100,000 last night before shutting the system off.

  • funny how activision started on atari and now making call of duty games :)

  • a little dramatic are we today?

    rofl

  • *tears*

  • Wow, I've never heard such great audio quality from an atari game. ;)

  • This game is crazy. All you have to do is shoot, move, shoot, move, shoot. It's impossible to lose at this game if you repeat the same pattern forever. I got fed up after doing so well on both the Atari and GBA version that I quit after being bored to tears.

  • argh this damn game!....it took me so long to hit 100,000 especially when i had to restart 2 times cause of a power outages

  • that speech at the end was inspiring

  • Dude... I don't know how you played this game... but I could flip the score on this game... all you do is fire fire fire... to kill the 3 in a row... you noob :)

  • I also like how he said "free man," right as he earned a free man.

  • my dad broke this game in the sense he maxed out the score

  • Wow... epic speech, didn't see that coming.

  • Nice work InecomCompany. Lucky is anyone who still has a functional Atari2600 with those memorable games. I'm one of them. My recent favorite passtime is to play a whole bunch of early 80's pop songs and play atari for hours. I think I finally found my timemachine!

  • hi i want to know the name of a rare game, was a ghost or something cute, he ate candies and biscuits and and he fly. the name is in japanese or chinese

  • I too got high score on Laser Blast and it took me hours to get the 1,000,000 points where then the game simply stops! I too took a pic to send to Activision and did receive my certificate and patch! Through the years I lost both. Maybe someday we will be asked to defend the world from all our experience at this game? lol

  • The final "middle finger" of being able to control your death spiral gives this game bonus points in my book, as does the fact that you don't have to shoot STRAIGHT down. And that you're the saucer and not the guns on the ground. All that's great. I think if this had had some more variety, it'd have been one of THE best, most imaginative Atari 2600 games. They started down a brilliant road but stopped short, IMO.

  • Funny, it never occurred to me when I was little that you could kamikaze those cannons when they shoot you down.

  • this is my favorite game for the atari of all time

  • I have an activision compilation game pack for my ps2.There are 45 games on it and this game is one of them. There are 4 skill levels to choose from.Level 1 is like the original laser blast atari game cartridge, and it is basically too easy, just like i recall it being back when i had the 2600 in the 80's...so,in having 3 harder skill levels to start with,i have a MUCH BETTER version of Laser Blast on my activision classics game pack ! : )

  • I sent in my high score screen shot to Activision and was never given my certificate or patch! I'm bitter about this 28 years later. David Crane broke my little heart.

  • this game is genius

  • I got the record on this game! I took a pic of the screen and sent it to atari, they sent me a certificate and a sew on badge. My brother got the same for grand prix..

    The 2600 was the shizzle!

  • @huntertsl I did the same thing!!!

  • I rolled the score on this game. It took quite a bit!

  • same here, i remember getting on laser blast around 7.30am one saturday morning and playing solid without losing a life until my parents made me switch it off when swapshop finished.

  • This was my first video game ever. My dad brought it home while we were on vacation in South Padre and we hooked the mother fucker up and played til dawn errr probably 2am or so... who knows, i was fucking 4 years old...

  • a friend of mine had the same experience on vacation too... turns out his dad bought the game to assuage his guilt about cheating on the kid's mom/his wife with some chick he met at the resort. Divorce and sad childhood followed. Kind of takes the fun out of the game, huh?

  • Yeah I know what you mean... My parents waited another 5 years or so before they started cheating on each other and then got divorced... it pretty much ruined Super Mario Brothers for me as well as the rest of my fucked up twisted 32 year existance...

  • Maybe you should have asked for an Commodore Amiga 500 to perk you up.

Anyway, this is all about paying homage to the one and only laser blast. We're not here to get all emo over what our parents did.

  • @huntertsl My dad molested me.

  • @xgilxx cool story danny

  • Well it does have the greatest name ever.

  • There were more 2600 games that there needed to be. Perhaps if atari did what nintendo did with there seal of approval, then atari might still be with us today, and yes i know infograms are using the atari name, but its not the point. Atari are gone and infograms need to get over it.

  • that was hilarious! LOL!

  • lool, definately one of the funniest reviews

  • Actually, the Atari 2600 is called the Atari 2600 because that is it's model code. In other words,it was EXACTLY the 2,600th product made! Dead serious! Think about all the numbers on the bottom right of the cartridges,it indicated that it was the 2601-5199th product made. All of the games were like that up to the Atari 7800!

  • nice speach i cried

  • Amen brother.

  • great funny speech

  • Nice way to end it with the speech n'all.

    it made me cry

  • Wow... *Sniff* that speech was so... *Sniff* AMAZING!

  • isn't it from Network, the movie?

  • Idk....

  • HEY! you just shout down my flying sauser, but NO! F%#K YOU! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • A good game for Atari but needed more work on variety and depth. Not a finished game!

  • Oh brother....it's not actually very challenging. In fact, that was the flaw. There was a very simple pattern, in which you blew up every single level in abou 3 seconds, bang, bang, bang. Then you moved on....it was how you'd play for endless hours until you reached the score limit at which point the scores turned to exclamation marks....

  • FREEEEEEEDOOOOOOM

  • I love this game !

The only game that i am sure i would love more is the same game but in the place of canons are humans trying to run for cover !

  • Wow. Found this boring as a kid but a couple of mates staying for the night we actually clocked this thing, taking shifts aand sleeping. Back when clocking was the score turning over to zero again, and the game just keeps going.

    lol

  • Greatest speech ever.

  • This game got boring for me to but in my younger day it was fun and challenging now days its to easy and the last time I played it I spent over 10 hours with out dying my lives were off the screen and I thought to myself THERE IS NO ENDING

  • @thedarkbanshee 10 hours.........

  • @codyc67 Yeah these games do not end man the counter still racked up and I just keeped playing yeah by the way I'm the guy who beat seaquest the game resets

  • @thedarkbanshee Damn man xD

  • @codyc67 Perhaps I could make a time laps video of me beating seaquest although I dont really have that kinda time to spend in my life anymore perhaps i do could a savestate from an emulation although I could cheat and no onme would know if it were emulated so GAH

  • @thedarkbanshee Doesn't it get boring x.x?

  • @codyc67 yup it sure does but as you progress it gets faster and faster to keep the interest perhaps hats why I never beat lazier blast it NEVER gets harder after a point

  • Comment removed

  • @5tonyvvvv this just means you never really got to play many ATARI games or you have bad taste.

  • @5tonyvvvv You're a fucking retard.

  • Instead of sayin' that you're going to play pac man, you should have said that "Fuck this, I'm going to play Halo 3" or something.

  • Why? That would be fairly out of character.

  • That would have been funnier.

Because he mentioned Halo before and said something being an invidual and not Playing halo and playing laser blast instead.

  • OOOOHHH! I see your point now. I thought you were just trying to recommend a game you'd prefer. Obviously I underestimated you, comrade.

  • I don't even have Halo 3. I think it's too hyped and stuff. I think i'm gonna buy it and see if it's any good. And that's because I saw the Halo 3 Classic Game Room HD review.

  • Well, there you go. I assumed incorrectly.

  • my dad told me he had an atarti. I was pretty impressed he doesn't even know how to work my ds lol. Well anyway he said it was awesome back in the day wish he hafn't had thrown it out i LOVE retro gaming.

  • IMA CHARGIN' MY LAZOR!!!!! (blast)

  • a little dramatic, huh?

  • hahaha. nice braveheart speech.

FREEDOM!!! ..........wait...im bored..ill go do something else.

  • Well this game was the definition of monotony, but was kinda fun. There was a trick to timing three perfect shots so that the turrets never got a shot off and you could play indefinitely. A cool touch was letting you steer down to destroy a turret when you're falling after being hit.

  • You know your stuff ^_^

  • thank u least sum1 likes penis.. jeez with u people

  • LOLOLOL 3:00 TO 3:15 lets see how u like it .... bitch lmfao.

  • lol Thanks for sending this to me.

  • thanks again.

  • Very inspiring speech.

    FREEDOM!!!!

  • I love this shit. A freaking UFO blasting the hell out of those gun turrets!

  • i was playing this game when Reagan was shot. My father yelled from upstairs to put on the TV.

  • That was so epic it brought tears to my eyes! Be free! Play Lazer Blast!

  • I agree that this cartridge is one of Activision's few clunkers. Yep, you pick up the pattern and then can go on forever. Well, until you get a million. I wasted 6 hours of my life back in 1982 just using the 1 2 3 fire pattern until I got a million points. Just to get that Laser Blast patch. Boring!

  • I think this was the most disappointing and boring game ever released for the Atari 2600. It was so monotonous that you could easily pick up a pattern for destroying the turrets without getting hit. As SonictheBedHog said, the only thing could interrupt game play was the call of nature.

  • I scored 100k+ points, using pretty much the exact method described by bluenote71--really easy. Per the instructions that came with the cart, I sent in a pic of my TV screen showing my score to Activision, and waited...and waited... for my "Federation Of Laser Blasters" patch, or whatever it was called. It finally showed up in the mail almost year later out of the blue, after I'd long since written it off. LOL. Guess the Activision folks were *really* busy ;-).

  • earned an activision high score patch for this game !

  • RETRO GAMERS FTW!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

  • i love this game i am forced to play it on my psp tho cause i dont own a 2600 anymore

  • sniff I'm finnaly freeeee!!!

  • Great and funny review. :)

  • This game was too easy; once you got to the higher, faster levels, you could just hide in the top-left corner and blast away south east until the cannons moved into your beam.

  • I had this game it was pretty sweet and you made the game even more suspenseful/intriguing with that eerie music at the beginning. I love how you can crash your ufo into one of the gun turrets after it gets shot down.

haha this is one the funniest new reviews you've done :)

  • do you put sand in your Vaseline?

  • I was able to perfect this game, I had to die because I had to go to the bathroom.

  • I love all the reviews from the older systems! Show some love for the N64!

  • I like how you said "video game player" instead of "gamer."

I really hate that term, "gamer." I just hate labels. All it does is cause division amongst us. "I'm a hardcore gamer" or "I'm a casual gamer" or "I'm a REAL gamer." People then get competitive over who's more of a gamer then the other. Games are for entertainment, not for war, we should all just relax with our games and be cool.

  • Agreed. I'm very confused where all the "gamer angst" comes from. Grrr, I'm so angry that Duck Hunt is better than Pac Man!! CGRHD :)

  • I think it started somewhere around around the Quake era. Competitive online gaming probably influenced people to take the games too seriously. Plus, PC was finally started to become more of a gaming platform because before then, PCs were too expensive to be purchased mainly for games and were only usually used for business. So PC vs console formed, on top of the fact that sega vs nintendo already existed. But we all know that Tiger hand held games are better then Game & Watch.

  • @stafax As old as this comment may be, those "labels" make sense. Casual gamer: One who doesnt usually play difficult games and maybe likes puzzle games or something. Hardcore: Everything and usually violent games. "REAL" gamer idk.

  • @DeltaPhi79 So what if a person spends tons of hours only playing Civ 4 like my geography prof? Or what if a person only plays violent games but only once in a while? Or what if a person plays hours of old games like Donkey Kong and Pac-Man? None of those fit your descriptions. So which one of those is hardcore? Which is casual? Are any of them even "gamers"? Hardcore and Casual are labels mainly used by spokespeople at E3 and whatever. Trying to figure which label is who is just sillyness.

  • The Gamer Order:

    Beta

    Hardcore Competitive

    Competitive

    Hardcore

    Casual

  • are you on something that's illegal man :)

    very funny!!

  • inspirational

  • *hums "I want to break free"*

  • I didn't know Dr. Phil played and reviewed old and some new games... cool.

  • I loved that..... Pac Man of course. This is just way too repetitive.

  • I AM A FREE MAN!!! Yeah I am getting tired of hearing about GTA4. Not that it is a bad game and I of course like seeing videos about it. But I just feel with all the games out there it is a waste to restrict yourself to one game. I always liked Laser Blast with all it Activision goodness but it dose get old really fast. This was a great video man. I laughed pretty hard at your rant at the end. Once again another 5 star review.

  • a personal favorite of mine
