It's pretty obvious to me that Kate Bush intended to perform this new rendition as a joke, a nice funny way to close the album. She had her voice altered, and the result is this demo-ish/garage-sounding/live-like song. It has a Rolling Stone-ish feel. I do like it. It takes some heart to play with your voice like that, especially if you're Ms Kate Bush :)
For all those who did not get Kate's joke, it is made to sound like a worn longplay record from 30 years ago. It's less "in your face" than for example Wuthering Heights, where it's clear why "Kathy" sings in such a spooky voice. People who were raised in digital era, and did not listen to analog longplays when Kate recoreded her old albums, won't get it :)
I absolutely love this song, but I must say, I've not enjoyed some of her updated arrangements on the "Directors Cut". Her phrasing sounds quite weak. I'm not sure what she was going for here. The original is so "on" and she really PUNCHES out those fab lyrics. She's still the best though!!
@musikgal17 Well, I don't know you agree with me, but I think she sings this song with a pinch of salt so as not to be so serious... But it's just my humble opinion...
It would appear that Kate still keeps on displaying excellent work.... Those coloured rubber-bands rather than those boring brown ones. I love you Kate. Xxx
I've never seen a kate bush video that wasn't entertaining....but my god, she (almost) sounds like she is three-times removed burnt- out in this song. Maybe she is just sing-sleep-walking....simultaneously writing out this week's grocery list or something...
Director's Cut should be recalled. What an album of shit. It's never good when an artist revisits old material. It can't be improved on. I don't know what the old gal was thinking.
Sometimes, I dread it when a performer redoes/retools old material. Not this time. It's analog, not digital, and mostly acoustic, but who cares? It's Kate Bush, for crying out loud.
Well, the background music is far better than the original I'd say but with the vocals I'm not entirely convinced. And can anybody tell me the hell is wrong with its quality? Why does it sound like it was very badly ripped off?
I love the bluesy Rolling Stone's sound and when I first heard the singing I thought it was awful, but now I actually like it. She never ceases to surprise and amaze.

has she lost her voice? it does't sound like her, it's tired and no range and it was such a good, fun song too. oh well.

I have always adored Kate Bush and everything she's ever recorded in her long career, but this is absolute shite.

Love Kate Bush but this really needs more enunciation. Loved the original!

@mylady13 I have to agree... It would be great if it didn't sound like mumbling.
