I have a 2600 clone to this day. And it WORKS! Some maintenance was requierd on the joystick, and cartrige ports. But that is all. You could have bought one of the clones (fresh from China I think) in Eastern Europe in 1990, by the name Rambo Console (Konsola Rambo) :D
What? Hooking up an Atari is EASY... SIMPLE... NOTHING TO IT. You're just a couple Nintendo fanboys who don't know what the frak you're talking about. Were you even ALIVE when the 2600 was out? Don't make videos if you don't know what you're talking about. ... Kids didn't scream for "Atari 2600," they just screamed for "Atari." Then, Atari WAS video games, and video games WERE Atari.
I have a 2600 LOL when hook it up on my 70's black white T.V and it Broke
5 times i't made me piss off but it still had good games space invaders but I also own crap games like E.T till this day I don't what to do in the game
Um... Yes. I was THAT bad, Ask anyone! It was so bad, that playing it felt like your were being smacked over the head with a wreaking ball the size of the moon! The graphics looked the same as Empire Strikes Back on the 2600, simplistic. But Empire was fun to play, ET was not, It was not the main factor in the crash, but it played a large part in it. The crash was mainly caused by an over-saturation of consoles in the market at the time and stores not being able to shift them
Dude, you have no idea. I thought the same thing, but just play it on an emulator and you'll see. It is DEFINITELY the worst game ever. As far as I can see there's NO way to win it, you just run around collecting dots. And falling into holes. Lots... and lots... of holes.
Also, apparently so few copies were sold that Atari had to bury thousands of them in the New Mexico desert.
Oh btw, does anyone know the song that starts at like 0:28? It sounds so familiar...
its not hard to get maybe ebay but i think you'll need an old tv that will make it easy to set up just take the advise if you want to play an atari its better to have an old colour or black and white tv preferably colour
the UK Pal version of the 2600 was simple to hook up just a straight forward RF cable exactly the same as our arial fitting, wonder why the US version was so different?
You actually had trouble hooking the Atari up to your TV? Ok, so maybe it wasnt exactly "plug and play" but way back then kids were setting the VCS up all the time. I was in the 4th grade when I got mine, and I was ready to play space invaders on the ol' American made Zenith without anyone's help.
Naaa, it wasn't that bad to hook up the 2600. The Gooch and myself tend to exaggerate about some things. Hahaha!!!! However, every now and then I would shock the shit out of myself trying to hook up the 2600 to my tv.
Yes, a screwdriver was necessary to get the thing hooked up...and I'm not talking about the drink! ;)
Seriously, I credit Atari's "Brain Games" for helping me develop memory skills. I wish they made learning games like that for the PC and whatnot, so I went and bought an old Brain Games cart from Ebay.
The Atari 2600 was launched as the VCS(Video Computer System) on November 15,1977 for $199($399 by todays standards.) the system got off to a slow start until Taito ported it's japanese smash "Space Invaders" in 1978. In 1980, Atari fired it's founder Nolan Bushnell and that's where the bubble begin to burst. Atari hired Howard Kassir(an idiot who cared about money then games) as a result dozens of poorly designed titles were released including some adult games. it died in July 1984.
Obviously your age shows here, when this thing came out it was the one and only Atari and it kicked ass and every single development in game consoles was because of the great idea at that time of putting out a game computer with interchangeable software.
lol, videopong

14 years for the Atari? Ok. Neo-Geo: 1989-2004 = 15 years.
Akira1422 11 months ago
@Akira1422
Neo Geo launched in Japan on January 31, 1990. The last game official game came out July 9th, 2004. So it about equals the Atari.

Well, it's easy to say such things, but there are plenty of good games out there WITH good graphics to boot.

@Random90sKid Gameplay has turned to shit in most titles.
Nintendo is full of re-hashed crap and that shit still sells like hotcakes. Oh well.
