  • wow! MJ the greatest! no more needs to be said

  • 1984 USA beat 1984 all star

1988 USA beat 1988 all star

    What does it mean?

  • @jimmychuang It means there was an incredible amount of young talent on the young olympic team. Please don't be one of those Jordanists who think Michael Jordan is singularly the one reason why the olympic team won? There were some great players on the 84 olympic team. Jordan was great possibly the greatest but he didn't single handedly win the game for them. I do not subscribe to the fact that he is god.

  • lol@kurt rambis

  • Pretty sure Jordan was the best player in the world before he even played an NBA game

  • 4:02 "In my mind Michael Jordan has the chance to be the all great basketball player of all time in the history of the game." His prediction was right.

  • yh that michael jordan player is ok, but i dont think he'll have any real success, you know?

  • Coach Bobby Knight + Michael Jordan=Invincible.

  • Walter Davis

  • 2:07 the speaker said:people say jordan is going to be the next davis

    who the heck is davis?

  • It's crazy that this young team was the best team in the world. In the olympics and even against the NBA All stars!! Highly unlikely now a days.

  • Some of those so-called all-stars weren't really all-stars; good players but not all-stars like Michael Cooper...But, still impressive work by a young, talented USA Team beating Magic, Isiah, and Alex English...

  • Those All-stars should be ashamed....

  • I never knew this game happened. Remember than Barkley, Karl Malone, and John Stockton all could have been on that Olympic teams as well.

  • how come they don't do this anymore?

  • Jordan is more than a legend its simply Mister Air Jordan!

  • Mj is best ever never human player. He is just God of Basketball

  • Proves how Michael Jordan IS the best of the best

  • 3:10

    UNREAL

  • everybody is black!

  • @KevYuuuu Chris Mullin is white :-)

  • The Commentator predicted that Michael will become a Legend and it was. GOAT

  • So a team of college all stars was beating up on the NBA's best!?!?!?!? That goes to show u how good the league was about to become for the next 15 years! Bring back the glory days!

  • its a fact in the 80's that every team is in a drastic search for a center to build around a team thats why the 1st and 2nd pick went to get there own centers such as olajuwon and sam bowie respectively, thats why jordan came in as a third pick overall regardless of bobby knight's high recommendation. knight knew and was spot on.... JORDAN RULED!

  • jordan and ewing was already NBA top players standart as college players.and michael changed he is shooting style after

  • So where were the Boston Celtics in this? No Bird? No McHale?

  • 26 years ago game was much slower but tougher.

  • young mj would just wreck it in todays game

  • Before this game started, a rookie by the name Micheal Jordan asked a few all-stars to autograph his basketball. But instead they just tossed the ball and MJ knew the NBA allstars meant business. And so they all got owned!

  • 3:57 :D

  • Jordan is by far the greatest player ever - even before he ever played an NBA game - that's how you know he's the GOAT

  • mj flies in the air. hes a freak

  • Messed up title. It should be, "1984 Michael and Friends vs NBA All Stars"

  • @YesIRap patrick ewing is on that team dude

  • Holy shit at that dunk by Jordan.

  • Hubie is the man! This video is called foreshadowing.

  • classic Magic pass at 4:31

  • This video convinces me that Michael Jordan is the best basketball player of all time.

I mean he dunked on Magic Johnson in 1984 before he even played any NBA games!!! Michael Jordan is soo awesome.

  • Ewing was going in!!! But Jordan is the greatest!!! Damn I miss him!!!

  • That was Billy Packer not Hubie Brown who made the comment. Brown was coaching with the Knicks at that time. TV commentary would come later.

  • This is basketball my friends. This is how my people play ball.I'm 41 and all of my boys play like this.

  • @dolphinbuc Haha yeah right.

  • @Nonghyupful (Yawning) *end transmission*

  • @dolphinbuc I'm yawning at your kids' attempts to play basketball. Your boys suck.

  • 2:07 Kinda crazy hearing somebody talking about MJ being "the next" somebody else.

  • That was an exhibition game played with much more intensity than anything you see nowadays...fun to watch!

  • Awesome footage dude

  • MJ always showed his passing skills whenever he's against Magic. It's incredible that he was able to out-assist Magic in some games.

  • awesome video + quality, thanks for the upload!

  • Bobby Knight imposed a pretty rigid structure on those olympic teams. It was obviously a good thing for the young players, Jordan credits him for teaching him a lot about defense, but you get the feeling that if he had just let Jordan create, maybe some pick and roll with Ewing, that Jordan would have completely taken over.

I heard a story that Bobby Knight called Portland after the olympic trials and BEGGED them to draft Jordan. Told them it would a huge mistake to let him pass.

  • @TBlake34 And thus foreshadowing Portland's dreadful future

  • this is y it's just so silly 2 think that there is ne1 at the off guard position is better than michael jordan - look at what he's doing 2 nba veterans b4 he even entered the nba, isn't he 20 years old here? LOL, & people actually compare him 2 kobe bryant, it's ridiculous!

  • Que buen juego!!! Ahora hay puro jugador farol.

  • I forgot all about Walter Davis.

  • hey that micheal jordan guy is pretty good.lol.

  • look where jordan takes off at 3:11......damn and thats in an actual game not a contest

  • wow! hubby brown this is wat u mean!

  • Go Jon Koncak!

  • shorts are great...lol

  • thats funny! jordan beating the all stars

  • i never undersstand why ppl always say jordan wasnt good shootin....i mean he prove it in college with the famous shot ect..i mean he wasnt the best shoting but he was good and then he got way better so to me when he was young he had a shot too...he was a complete player

  • @platano3000x maybe because his leaping and slashing ability was so tremendous that his shooting game was overlooked. just a thought

  • @ilovefrankandbeans u absolutly right bro thats a good way of see it good thought man..

  • 2 12, HA HA HA I wonder if the Jordan guy became the next Davis

  • 83' Pan Am Games, Pre-Olympic Trials, exhibition against NBA-All Stars, and Olympics served as MJ's coming out party.

  • why Larry Bird didn't play?

  • I disagree that the All-Star team was the weakest so far - they just played the greatest US amateur team so far!

  • This has to be the weakest All Star team ever. Walter Davis? Kurt Rambis and Cooper? Really good players but not true All Stars. And who the fuck is Butch Carter? (Its rhetorical so don't google him to give me an answer.)

  • Patrick ChEWING was a beast

  • US team owned the NBA allstars. US team had Jordan, that's why.

  • He got owned anyway.

  • Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha! Really? Who owned him? He was dunking on everybody.

  • But you don't need to laugh like that. As you can see, you don't know vertical so I'll not take it seriously.

  • Ewing and Mullin as well!

  • jirishanca...>WTF are you talkibg about....JUST a pickup team?......so you mean....Majic Johnson and Zeke are just some pickup players.....yea.........some genius you are

  • Crazy how Hubby Brown said Jordan Could Be an All-Time great before he played one NBA game. WOW

  • because he says that to everybody? just kidding

  • That was Billy Packard.

  • @kthomas62 That was Billy Packer who said that, not Hubie Brown.

  • @kthomas62 That's definitely not Hubie Brown. I think it's Billy Packer.

  • @kthomas62 that was billy packer.

  • @kthomas62 hubie knows basketball.

  • @kthomas62 Billy Packer

  • @kthomas62 u hear that too, so amazing, They now jordn's destiny before his irst nba game

  • @kthomas62 that was a great great great prediction

  • one the best olympic teams of all time

  • how did Dr. J not make the NBA Stars team? why aren't there any centers? that 'NBA Stars' team makes no sense. No Larry Bird, no Dr. J, no real big man.... only real stars are Magic and Isiah.

  • It was really just a pickup team of the NBA players they could get so the Olympic team could have some competition. Wasn't a real NBA All-Star team in any real sense.

Besides, if Moses Malone had played, he probably would have broken a couple of Olympians in half.

  • @jirishanca That was not a pickup team dumbass...they had Isiah, Magic, and Walter Davis playing...They got beat because MJ was on the other team...

  • @Domini478

Not much to do with that. When they had this same game in '88, Jordan was on the NBA Stars team that time, had a very good game, and the Olympic team still won.

  • Fantastic team. Too bad Barkley and Malone got cut.

  • As Barkley freely admits, he had every chance to make the team if he got to the weight Knight wanted. And he just didn't make the effort. As for Malone, I haven't a clue.

  • wow i wish i lived back then this is so awesome how jordan flew :)!!!!!! and the referees look funny lol

  • the final in olympics was vs. Spain. we remembered that final.

  • 2.14 people say that jordan is gonna be the next davis. DAVIS WHO??? lol

  • Walter Davis, who actually had a pretty spectacular NBA career.

  • Yes, an excellent player. But more the sort of quiet player who doesn't make the highlight shows, just productive. Sort of like Jamaal Wilkes, for example, or John Havlicek in his early years.

  • This video is absolutely mesmerizing to watch! You have to remember that the college (Olympic) players were on a mission, if the pro's had the same motivation and incentive it may have been different. That being said I still would of had a hard time betting against this group of college kids with Michael Jordan leading the way against anyone. And I have to agree with the other poster, how could any NBA scout watch this game and think Sam Bowie would make a better NBA player?!?!

  • You use the right word -MESMERIZING! This is the kind of bball I grew up loving - walter davis one of my all time favs, though would have liked seeing chris mullin a bit - you're so right - portland tblazers were morons - remember they also traded Moses Malone! to Houston after they picked him up from Buffalo in the ABA merger, they also have the bona fide worst 1st round pick ever - LaRue Martin, '72, picked ahead of Julius Erving! and Bob McAdoo - hope Greg Oden doesn't bust also..

  • Did not know about Portland having the rights to Moses, probably went down before I was old enough to really follow sports. Thanks for the trivia, that's quite interesting to note. Moses was an animal, I rate him ahead of many talented 7' softies like David Robinson, Patrick Ewing, and maybe even Kareem (Moses dominated the older version of Kareem).

  • Portland must've been cursed - Sam Bowie!? Moses the original High School to NBA guy; he was famous amoung players for his tiny hands - he was a huge guy, however if you look at highlights, he had little girly hands - they say if he had mitts more fitting for a 6'10, 250 pounder, he'd have been the greatest ever - of course the Blazers missed out when two years after letting him go he was MVP for the Rockets...

  • Ewing wasn't a softy.

  • nice comments agreed maybe they missed the game, iI was also intriguied at how Magic could control a game with pinpoint passes,

  • 2:09

Wow. Forgot how big Nance's hands were. That's sick.

  • Rest in Peace Wayman Tisdale !!!

  • What time of the year was this game played?

  • Probably July.

  • 03:10

  • Old NBA vesus Future NBA Legends should be the title of this game.

  • yes he was a good pick, he actually was the reason they passed on Jordan, thinking they had their scorer - they went to finals twice but could not beat the bulls with MJ - clyde did win a title though, with Houston!

  • well, they should have taken anybody except Bowie, but they definitely should have drafted MJ. I mean to think that you shouldn't draft the greatest player of all time because you already have another guy that's 6'6"-6'7" and can shoot, run, jump, and play defense is ridiculous. Oh well, I'm just glad MJ got his six titles and that Drexler got his one title with the Rockets.

  • what kinda scouts watched this game? mj went 3rd?

  • Blazers have NEVER made good draft picks - not only let Bowie go, passed on Moses Malone when they picked him up from the ABA, and had 1st pick in 72 and chose larue martin, who washed out of the league in 3 years - Dr. J and bob mcadoo were passed over by the Blazers, ineptitude incarnate...

  • Clyde Drexler WAS a good draft pick. 14th overall in 1983.

  • Didn't they pick some guy named Walton one year?

Of course they did take a total stiff #1, Larue Martin, in 1972, ahead of McAdoo and Erving. Nobody knew much about Dr. J then, though.

  • So let me get this straight. The Blazers could have drafted Moses Malone, Dr J., Michael Jordan, and Kevin Durant?

    LOL! ... WTF?!

  • The Blazers have to be one of worst draft choice teams ever - they HAD Moses Malone, and traded him to Houston; can you imagine a front line made up of Moses, Walton, and maurice lucas could've done? They'd have become a dynasty! and when Walton was injured, Malone could have stepped right in and probably won another title in '78 when the blazers were 50-10 before losing Big Bill - maybe Oden finally gets healthy, but right now they're regretting that pick, big time -

  • damn your so right they would legendary now if they did all that

  • @cyber6sapien yeah, the trailblazers really hate themselves !

  • @cyber6sapien it was a good choice for them not to draft jordan because they had too many guards.

  • @CharlieC1331 When you have a player like Jordan you draft him and make room on your roster

  • @blaq7427 yes if u they could go back in time the blazers would have drafted Michael Jordan but there have been plenty of guys who were drafted 1st, 2nd or 3rd who arent known at all nowadays. and then there have been players like kobe who was drafted 13th...now look at him

  • @CharlieC1331 Bob Knight said he told a GM of a team in the NBA that after coaching Jordan in the Olympics he knew Jordan was the best player in draft and he should draft him because he was very special. The GM said, "we already have a @ guard we need a center" , then Knight said "then play him at center". Now Knight didn't specify which team's GM he was talking about, but I think it was pretty obvious it was Portland. With such a strong recommendation from Knight they should have drafted him.

  • @blaq7427 yes u hav a point there however jordan admitted himself that they did the right thing in not selecting him, the blazers simply had too many guards like their rookie guard clyde drexler. jordan just would not be able to work together with drexler

  • @blaq7427 yes you have a point there however jordan said himself that it was for the best. the blazers already had clyde drexler as a 2guard, jordan and drexler wouldnt have been able to work together. but i do agree with you partly.

  • @CharlieC1331 Why wouldn't they work ??? Jordan could play SF or PG . They would have been a great duo

  • @CharlieC1331 @CharlieC1331 clyde would have been an all star as a small forward. only reason he played big guard was because jerome kersey had developed so well. but great rebounder, passer, and floor runner. he'd have complimented mj well.

  • @CharlieC1331 jim paxson at the 2, kiki at the 3, valentine at pg, clyde not even starting all the time as a rookie though he was on his way. if the blazers could go back in time they would take their current trainers and orthopedists with them. bowie was not a bad pick. big men just have biomechanical disadvantages. some proper sports medicine could've kept bowie on the floor.

  • @cyber6sapien hahahaha

  • No love for Vern Fleming. Not from Georgia or even Indiana.

  • jordan at 06:12 and 06:37 .......O...M...G!!!!

  • they can't play deffence

  • Thank you Coach Knight

  • They all have freakishly long arms!

  • Olajuwon is a Hall of Famer and no offense to Sam Bowie, but how did the scouts from the Rockets and Blazers watch this game and pass on Jon Koncack?

  • Heh, heh, heh...

  • This is just great.

  • OMG!!!! I ALMOST SHIT MY PANTS "people said that jordan is going to be the next..." WHOOOO??????

  • great video. classic!

  • I remember these exhibition games the olympic team always beat the pros. The olympic team took it more seriously the the NBA team.

  • This is such a cool video...I love when the announcer was saying he thinks MJ will be one of the greatest ever. He knows what he was talking about.

  • @seinffeld that was billy packer.

  • Wish I had seen some Alford playing in there.

  • the commentator at 4:00 mark was CORRECTLY PREDICTED how jordan will become.

  • No kidding...this guy gets on all the BIG STARS of the NBA of the 80´s...this is his rookie year, but despite this he leads his young team with 27 to beat this all-star NBA team...amazing...I´ve watched all MJ´s career, but I still get "surprised" once and then...great vid MJ the GOAT

  • Well, yes, the big NBA stars are playing, but it's July or something. Not as if they are exactly in prime condition.

Of course when he started playing with the Bulls, Jordan showed immediately he was right up there with the best veterans.

  • This is awesome, great basketball from a better era. High intensity, inspired defense and fluid ball movement - everything looks just right, the way it should be.

Save the and 1 crap for the playgrounds. I'd rather see a team with 3-4 guys which are good for 15-20 points on any given night than the usual "superstar" wing man who shoots 44% along with 10 free throws to get his 30 something while everyone else is standing around watching.

  • Portland Trailblazers FAIL

  • 3:56... and the commentator was so right... MJ became to be the GREATEST

  • isn't mj in nba?

  • this was when you couldnt be nba player and be in the olympics and MJ was still in college at this point

  • Another great vid, thanks.

  • now if wilt scored 100 and still wasnt the greatest and Gervin and others could put up 70 and still wasnt the greatest are we to believe that cause kobe put up 81 against toronto he's the greatest? Please! 23 is to basket ball what Ali is to boxing, BAD!

  • I agree. Remember Kobe had the three point line (Wilt and Gervin didn't). Also you could handcheck Gervin. It's a foul if you handcheck Kobe.

  • don't forget gervin didn't have to face zone defenses.

  • Zone is irrelevant if you can't put pressure on your opponent and aren't allowed to stay in the paint. Due to the hand-check rule, offensive players now have more space to operate. Even if they double or triple team you, they are not allowed to play physical defense. The three-second rule prevents big men from camping in the paint, which basically renders zone defense ineffective. The whole idea of zone is to force the other team into taking perimeter shots.

  • With all the rule changes however it's easier than ever to drive to the hoop because it's an automatic foul if they touch you on the way to the rim. Defenders often give the slashing player more room so that they don't get whistled for a foul. That's not basketball anymore. The defender is already at a disadvantage because he has to react to the offensive player's move.

The Death of defense, read it: hoopshype(DOT)com/articles/defense_lazenby(DOT)htm

  • I dont know a center that was as fast as ewing from end to end. Shaq couldnt run with these guys at his current weight. You had to be in shape and knw the game. jordan was told to leave by dean smith because he knew the fundementals to well and could succeed at the next level on both ends of the court.

  • David Robinson and Hakeem were pretty fast from end to end.

  • yeah hakeem was great end to end, I like robinson too, but I think earlier in their careers I'd give Ewing the edge.

  • I agree. Look at early in his NBA career how quick he was. He had a HOF career, but who knows how good he would've been before his knees went bad.

  • I totally agree. I was a Bulls fan all the way but Ewing was a fucking beast!

  • Amazing video. Do you also have the highlights from the game between the 92 dream team and the college team, which the Dream Team lost?

  • Yea aparently Dream Team lost to the All Star College team consisting of Penny, Webber etc by 6 points. The next time they played(38 min.) the Dream Team beat them by 56 points.

  • look at the defense !!!

  • ya think kobe can play at this level? now this is defense. They dont play like this nowadays. kobe knws he never came into the league like the level that mike was at. college does pay off because nowadays they lack so many fundementals of the game.

  • 110% agree. And it wasn't just about trying to be phsyical like nowadays.

  • We gotta give Magic a lot of credit! By the way, how many assists he had in this game? Thanks

  • I didnt notice that they were playing at the vet memorial coliseum. Cool. I remember watching games there as a kid. The madhouse on mcdowell. That was an awesome place.

  • Thanks for posting this game. I remember watching it live but never thought I'd get the opportunity to see it again. Thanks to modern technology we can relive the past.

  • man was he on point about jordan. all time great

  • lapa

  • i think these were the best teams ever assembled in the history of the nba

  • mj..thats it..
