because more than likely he has what is called a "pick up" that is taped onto the other side of that tape. it is being fed to an amplifier that way it you can control how loud it is so it isnt over powered by the microphone.

tiger, i reckon his lyrics are good and have meaning, eg cigarette eyes. atleast he wrote them the lyrics, other then commercialized music where their writers do it for them. eg, britney spears is a good example of commercialized music.
