@pfordsq That's the VERY FIRST THING I thought when I heard it! They were power pop and I don't think they realized it... I've been listening to posts all night- they were ROCK SOLID. Criminally overlooked.
@saguaroboy You're so right , and they're STILL criminally overlooked . The latter day band , led by Ray Graffia , are regarded as a "Fair Circuit " band , which is "Fair" enough , but , I saw them do a rare gig in Chicago proper last year , it was an all - Garage set , focusing mainly on all the great Sentar sides , and even "People and Me"(Another great , lesser known , track , from '72.). You could say early Buckinghams , Cryan' Shames , Ides of March and NC6 are proto -Power Pop
Isn't it amazing, that years after all of the other Chicago-area 60's bands had broken up and faded into oblivion, the New Colony continued on, and could STILL put out an incredible record like this one?...
No question...This one should have been a chart-topper for The New Colony Six.
I must agree that this is one of the best. songs...especially since it was written by Skip Griparis for me right after we broke up over 35 years ago! He was and still is a very talented singer/writer. He was in The New Colony for just a few years. We were young and as you can tell from the song it did not last.
I loved going to the gigs to see him play.
Barbara I Love you was written for a girlfriend by her ex husband. They introduced me to Skip and the rest is history.
This is a great song !! Too bad it was ignored by people ! (especially compared to some(most) of the CRAP that's played on the air these days. This is my first time hearing this one, thanks. great post ! -G.L.
This is the BEST record that the New Colony made in the 1970's stage of their career...
I have the "store-stock" black MCA label copy of this single, which is virtually impossible to find.- Nice to have, since the stock copy has the song titled "Run" as the "B" side.
It sounds like The Raspberries or early Sweet doing "I Knew The Bride ( When She Used To Rock'n'Roll ) . ". And that's GOOD !

This should've been a huge hit back then. Just as good as any pop song that came out of '74. What a gem!!!!!

My copy of this 45 must have been played with a really bad needle , especially the flipside, Run. Both Tracks really rock!!
