  • FYE: The Disneyland version decends to a basement level in order to embark guests on the ride in a separate show(warehouse) building- across the railroad tracks(separate from the actual mansion). The hallway with scary paintings, busts & lightning is actualy below the railroad tracks, and leads you to the separate building & ride. WDW's mansion didn't need to lower guests, so the walls simply go UP to retain the same experience as Disneyland's.

  • Good video & thanks- it helps me understand the "hanging body" theme in the gallery attic. The remains are of the "ghost host"("...There's always MY way"). The scream(when the lights are cut out) simulates the body/skeleton falling and crashing on the floor around you. The Disney imagineers were brillant!

  • does it matter if its an elevator or not..like really..

  • Its actually not an elevator. Its a lift, because they can only take a group down and very few back up. I know because im a cast member at the Disneyland Resort.

  • To clarify for the people who choose not to believe it's not an elevator, it is. I'm a Disney buff and this is my favorite ride, I know that it is an elevator. The one in Disney World is not an elevator but the one in Disneyland is.

  • It is an elevator in Disneyland. When the lights go out there is the scream and crashing noise to distract you. If you pay attention during this time you can feel the "thud" of the elevator hitting the ground floor :)

  • when i went there i cryed the hole way and had my disney hat on my face

  • its not an elevator i believe

  • @MaliaandAundrea It is

  • @Goldiney actually it's a combination of an elevator and a raising ceiling

  • @MaliaandAundrea it is an elevator, most of the ride is under ground.

  • the Ghost Host is Master Gracey according to the movie so actully that hanging corpse is Master Gracey's hanged corpse!

  • I prefer the Nightmare Before Christmas set up.

  • @23BrerRabbit Lol, have some fun and get out more. Fucking dumbass...

  • that part is an elevator,

i have been on that like 4 times and i never knew that

  • whats up with rich people sound gay

  • i went to disneyworld when i was in the school choir.

i went on this ride and i fainted at this part.

  • in the background i heard "then scream! scream!" XD

  • But the real question is....HOW DO YOU GET OUT!

  • トリック解明!

  • @Highspeed920 ENGLISH PLEASE!!!

  • @yeseniagreatsinger I think he said "Clarification trick!" try using Google Translate, so you can understand what foreign people are saying.

  • @TheAC29 im so sryy i didnt know !! i was just being dumb!! =(

  • This was always my favorite part.

  • I'd love to let off a fart in there , lol.

  • @MyMerlin1 hahahahahaha I always work one up and let a rip as soon as the doors shut

  • @THEGAMEMASTER754 Nothing is impossible when you use your imagination.

  • The guy you see hanging in the attic is supposed to be the body of the "ghost host". Thus why he says "of course, there's always my way. ." . . . : )

  • @GrammarKing1 hahaha, thats so effin wrong. He did it the hard way!

  • Is there anyway to go up to the attic part? for employees i mean

  • i was stuck in that it keeped going up and down for like 2 hours

  • @mchs1987 that sucks, did the lights go out too?

  • @TTTmiller yes they had emergency lights but they turned them on when we where walking out

  • Thats kewl you recoreded it, definately one of the best illusions someone can experience, that and those faces on the wall that follow you wherever you walk ; I still can't figure that one out after 20 years lol

  • @DAtNizzaYOuKnOw If you mean the ones that look like statues, those are done by making an impression in the wall that looks like a bust. Instead of something that sticks out of the wall, it is pressed inward. This gives the illusion that the bust is turning as you walk by.

  • @imsixcolors Yeah, those are the ones. Thanx for your input; you solved my mystery !

  • o my gosh i wish you had filmed this when i was there. i could NOT stop screaming!!!!

  • It's a cool elevator! I like how you can hear creaks as the portraits stretch!

  • lol i rode this ride when i was about 8 and when the room started "streching" and the voice said there are no dorrs and windows i turned around to the way i came in and saw the door was gone and i freacked out lol

  • I played this. It was great. :D

  • everyones screaming 1:09 xD

  • @23BrerRabbit Use your brain. They don't scream because they're scared - they scream for fun. How fucking boring would it be if you just sat there and looked quietly without saying a word?

P.S. A portion of Disneyland visitors are NOT from the states. Go bash another video, troll.

  • @Goldiney well said, that person obviously has a terrible personality..

  • @Goldiney Personally I find the screaming incredibly annoying. I try to plug my ears when the lights go out. And I really feel sorry for small children who are nervous enough after entering the Mansion.

  • @THEGAMEMASTER754

could they possibly use a tall ladder?

  • The best part of the Haunted Mansion

Followed by the ghosts on the mirror :)

  • i was there in paris, it was fantastic !!! XD

  • "of course, there's always my way." muhaha.

love this ride, even though it's cheezy as hell, it's just classic disney!

  • i went in here by myself i had nightmares the next day they let private rides i got one went in and died on the inside...

  • I Wanna Go There!

  • but it isn't an elevator..like the top more up and you dont move...I never understood why people call it an elevator

  • @wanttobediva In Disneyland, it is an elevator

  • @Goldiney Ohh ok I've only been to the Disney World one and assumed it was the same..my appologies

  • @Goldiney Ohh ok I've only been to the Disney World one and assumed it was the same..my appologies

  • @Goldiney

yes, but at WDW it is actually a the ceiling goes up, just like they want you to think

  • @Goldiney and in WDW, its not

  • @Goldiney it is. if you look carefully near the sliding doors, you'll see the OTIS logo. THis is one awesome elevator!

  • @wanttobediva It IS a real elevator that takes you down at Disneyland. The one at Walt Disney World is NOT an elevator, thus the ceiling rises. So yes, this one IS an elevator.

  • @wanttobediva Well, the stretch room is actually an elevator but the ceiling is open so it gives an illusion of the elevator seeming more like a stretching room than a true elevator. Hope that helps!

  • but it isn't an elevator..like the top more up and you dont move...I never understood why people call it an elevator

  • why does everyone start screaming 2 mins after the lights go off???

  • Thanks for posting!! Iv been there, but *never* noticed the body hanging at the end until just now!! To bad I never looked up at the end as a kid, lol. o_O

  • i remeber this it was a fun time at disney land

  • shreks of terror

  • Thank you so much for posting!

  • What is it that you see if you look up ?

I cant put my finger on it

  • A hanging skeleton

  • @Goldiney It's supposed to be the owner of the mansion who killed himself, by hanging. :o I watched the movie. ^_^

  • @evanite

some one told me it was supposed to be chucky.. but im not suree

  • Was on the one in Disneyland when there was a failure of some kind and they had to reset. So the Ghost Host asked, "Is this room actually shrinking?" as the elevator moved upward.

  • hahaha nice

  • Dude, I never get to see the normal version of this ride. My family and I always go near the holidays so we get the Jack Skellington version instead, which is alright, but still.....

  • I've always been a fan of the holiday version of this ride - but the original is by far my favorite.

  • I've been afraid of this elevator for a VERY long time! :S I was never able to look above me until 8th grade. It was an 8th grade trip to Disneyland, and everyone was holding eachother's shoulders lol. I FINALLY looked up, and I finally saw what the screaming was about. xD And LOL, "Scream... Scream!" xD

  • my family are dicks when go on this ride. we know the whole elevator part by heart. and we always seem to crap out of the staff by poppin out of some dark place.

  • when i was 9, i went on the ride with my mom, and right when we started one of the staff was following us then scared the life out of my mom! it was so hilarious! did it happened to u?

  • I've always wondered how they make it look like there's no doors.... anybody know?

  • All the doors are made to look like the wall.

  • Great comments everyone! Haunted Mansion is actually one of my favorite rides with Disney as well. However, as a Disney Cast Member I would like to make it aware that it's not an elevator. It's actually an illusion Walt Disney created. The floor you're standing on isn't moving, but the cieling above you is rising, thus giving the illusion that you're going down. Fun little fact of the day, and little Disney secret :)

  • At Disneyland it is an elevator

  • That's only for the walt disney world atraction

  • the elevator is the best part! I was holding on to My cuz all the time on that ride! I THINK I CRAPPED IN MY PANTS WITH THE GHOSTS IN THAT MIRROR

  • It's not an elevator.... The ceiling just goes up. ._.

  • It's an elevator in Disneyland

  • no its a real elevator

  • wait when the people were screamin, wasnt there like some thing touching them or popping out to make them scream???

  • Nope ... everyone knows that it's just a tradition. There is a scream on the soundtrack in the ride, so everyone screams along with it.

  • ohh that is at disneyland in california

  • how the fuck do they do that shit?

  • this ones scarier than the holiday one. the elevator part during the holidays has more........ well......... holidayish decorations

  • I remember when I went on this once and it was awful. Some lady got her stupid button on her jacket stuck in my hair and started yelling at me. I was only like 6 years old. But I love this ride I just make sure I stay away from people with jackets or I protect my hair!

  • Oooo... I see that disney thing have a little knowlage about what many people call "Evil". (:

  • i went on it the effects are prtty cool

  • does all the people stays together??? or they just go their own way???? tell me!!!!

  • Yes, everyone stays together until they reach the actual ride. You walk down the dark hallway of a haunted mansion until you reach doom buggies, each fitting 2-3 people.

  • thx!!!!

  • Question, what happens when the lights turn off? Are people really screaming and does the room continue to move?

  • When the lights turn off, a hanging corpse at the top of the elevator is lit, and there is a screaming sound effect. However, EVERY SINGLE TIME I've ridden it (literally about 300-400 times), people scream along with the sound effect - which is what you hear in this video.

  • I figured that much XD. Thanks!

  • bahahha. out of all the times I've gone on this ride I have never looked up and noticed. I thought the screaming was because the lights went out

  • i went on this ride a mounth ago in anaheim and before we got on the train i said that maybe it wasn't a good idea to go on!

  • i was scared i was only 4 years old it scared meeh really bad

  • Hey i was in this i was the lil kid crying

  • This is really good video of the stretch room! :D Great job! I especially love how you can see the corpse so up close as well. It's so hard to find a video like that, I think. ;)

May I ask when this video was taken?

  • hahahahahahahah screaming!!! 1:07

  • how does the celing thing disapear

  • The Haunted Mansion in Disneyland, Ca is an elevator. The top of the elevator is stationary - the bottom is not. This gives the illusion that the room is stretching. The Haunted Mansion in Orlando, Fl operates completely differently.

  • How does the FL one- oh ya the Fl one doesn't even have an elevator.

  • Its not really there. Its painted net and when the lights switch from the front to the back of it you can see through it.

  • The real story: The stretching room in California is an elevator because Disneyland didn't have enough room to put the entire ride on their land. Florida didn't have this problem, so they just reversed it. So in Florida, the ceiling rises instead of the floor lowering.

  • Woah. Cool!

  • I know. Isn't it?

  • o didny know that

  • paris then?

  • Paris is the elevator effect (California)

  • Yeah... it's more of a screen. They implement this technology in a lot of their attractions. If you've ever had dinner on a disney cruise line, you would have seen a lot of this technology.

  • i've only been on the holiday version of this ride when i saw other vids of this ride i was like wat skeleton?? then on this ride i saw and was like what the????? lol

  • mann it's a skeleton of some guy that hanged himself. google the story. his wife jumped out the window when she found out he was a pirate or some shit like that.

  • lol...

  • i dont get it.. what actually happens? why is it so scary?

  • ...........I look back on this, when the skeleton pops up, I heard the LOUDEST scream I had ever heard. I then found out that the scream I heard was my own.

I can't belive that I was actually afraid of this ride! CURSE YOU PMS, CURRRRSE YOOOOOU!

  • how the hell does it do that?

  • if this was real and I was in a room like that, I'd fuckin go psycho.

  • Best skeleton video on youtube!

  • i just wanna know how the elevator grows like that... it's soooo cool!

  • the bottom of the frame is stuck on the elevator

  • It is a fake skeleton hanging from the ceiling; it is revealed after the narrator's intro and the lights go out.

  • It IS an elevator at Disneyland..however, the one at WDW is not an elevator.

  • i liked this ride.. it was actually funny... it is not an elevator by the waay...

  • I used to work there, and yes- it actually is an elevator.

  • that s*** was creepy at the elevator i cried LOL just kidding

  • during the dark part, i woulda yelled, OH MY FUCKING GOD!!!

  • ah brings back memories i love that ride

  • yea same i wish i was there againe

  • brings back memories

  • man im so scared of the bride.

  • the rest of the portraits is under the open elevator part

  • i love this ride :}

  • Is this the one at Disney World or Disneyland?

  • disneyland

  • if this is disney world then it is no an elevator. the roof actually moves up and the people stay stationary. in disneyland however that is an elevator.

  • At Disneyland, the floor goes down and is an elevator. A Disneyworld the ceiling goes up while the floor remains stationary.

  • im sorry i didnt say i worked in WDW

  • The ride Haunted Mansion has no elevator i know this cause i work there for 2 years

  • Are you referring to WDW's? In which case you are right.

But Disneyland's is an elevator. Ask any informed person and they will tell you that.

  • Sorry, but you're wrong. The Haunted Mansion in Disneyland IS an elevator; do you mean that you worked at the one in Disneyland, or Disneyworld?

  • ha that is the first time I have actually seen the man hanging up above. Whenever I went to the haunted mansion I would look up to find it but I'd never see it ! Everyone else said they saw it but I didn't and now I did ! hahaha

  • This brings back so many memories!

I went Florida in 05, 07 and going

this year [08] too. Can't wait!

    THIS WAS MY FAV RIDE!

  • OH YEAH

this brings back memories lol i got freaked out about the pictures

  • The stretching room has three separate layers: The ceiling, the picture portion of the wall, the wood portion of the wall attached to the floor. The wood portion and the ceiling are the only parts that move. The ceiling actually rises as the floor drops, and the picture portion stays in place as the wood drops, revealing the extended version of the pictures. The bottom of the picture frames are attached to the wood paneling.

  • so that how they did it lol

  • i went the ride rocks hard

  • Hahahah I love doing that. People used to scare me when I was little, and now I get my revenge! haha

  • im going in 2 weeks

  • well. cool video...ut can anyone tell me how they do the elevator part where the painting is like an optical illusion? please reply if u can thx

  • the pictures r on a roller, when the elevator moves one part of the picture stays as the other part moves w/ the elevator. hope this answers ur ?

  • that hanging corpes always freaks me our

  • The ceiling is actually laser

  • no. its a skim screen. simular to muslim. when the lights are on in the actuall room you cant see through it. but when iluminated on the other side it reveals whats behind it.

  • LOL that effect in the hanging corps its good LOL

  • it's an ellivator. the lights go out, you look up, see the body, lights completely turn off, you dropp kind of fast, then go through a haunted hallway, and get on the "doom-buggy" (the actual ride part).

  • No, you don't drop fast at all. You move slowly down to the portrait hall level as the room stretches.

  • when the light stops grab a girls ass

  • LOL...well my cousin was in front of me, and I don't think she'd like that very much!

  • In France the dust prevents of see the hanged ... =(

  • There's more to the ride than just the stretching room. Most every ride at Disneyland/World has a story. That's how they tell the story at The Haunted Mansion.

  • whats the story of small world?

    or the maliboomer?

  • I see your point. So, not all rides have a story behind them. Many do. LOL SRY DIDN'T MEAN TO STEP ON UR TOES. LOLOLOL. Jeeze.

  • ..sorry

    im bored

and im cranky when im bored "/

i just cant wait til i go this month!!

  • I went on this like 2 months ago. Its kind of funny because when we went in the stretching room and while we were trying to make room for everybody some guy was all "Ok scoot in but don't fart" yeah that would suck if somebody did fart in the stretching room. Anyways I love the Haunted Mansion but I've only been on the one at Disneyland Calafornia I hope that I go on the other ones especially Phantom Manor.

  • it just gets dark

    but its fun to scream

  • it doesnt just get dark, there's a corpse on a noose right above. the lightning illuminates the ceiling and you can see it
