I am thinking of trying out for wonka, Mr. Salt, and grandpa Joe. I've seen some of the comments about wonka's part is higher pitched, I sing baritone. Would this cause any problems?
I'm trying out for Willy Wonka next weekend and I am SOOOO nervous! I am hoping for Verucca, because I want to sing "I Want It Now." But I am only 13 and they mostly give big parts to eighth graders... Ugh! But I can hope. Any advice???

You mean Veruca Salt, the spoiled brat and the second Golden Ticket finder although she didn't find the ticket herself - her dad stopped all regular work in his nut factory and had his workers unwrap Wonka bars to find a ticket for her. Veruca sings "I Want The World" and gets tipped down a garbage chute when she fails quality control.

im doin this musical during the summer, and i was wonderin if the part of willy wonka could be played by a girl soprano, like not too high, but how high are the songs for willy wonka? pleaz tell me....thanks
I'm the musical director for this show this summer. I can tell you that every director has their own preferences regarding girls/boys parts. You might have more of an impact as Verucca or Violet(both fun roles!). Get the most you can out of a role, it shows the director you can handle anything (even a bigger role next year.) Break a leg!
Phineas Trout is the reporter who introduces the audience to each character as they win their ticket. The only singing is in "I Eat More!" with Augustus Gloop and Mrs. Gloop. The recording that "Broadway Jr." provides has Phineas played by a girl. It also has her "speaking" her music through the song. Its a fun part, but once the show enters the factory, Phineas isn't seen again.
Almost every version of Wonka JR. on youtube has a girl as Willy Wonka. So most definitely. The songs are perfect for a girl soprano, but a bit high for a boy. Break a leg this summer!
wow, i just did this show.. except we changed it so that there was a candy lady (me) who sang "candy man" and then willy and i sang Golden Age together. it was awesome. this si fantastic.
You know that there is Willy Wonka Starting NEXT Sunday which is EXACTLY THE SAME VERSION WHICH IS COMPLETELY SCARY AND CREEPY it just got approoved last fall!
The point of MTI's junior shows is that it's cut to be a little shorter and some of the music is redone to fit younger people, such as children with unchanged voices. It's a great thing to youth theater and middle schools.

LOL. Children's groups have been performing this for decades now. I was in this show based on the original movie in 1984!!
