  • Just Hip Hop

  • for the young cats out there--refer back to Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band. props always to Dilla, but songs like "Cherchez La Femme" and "I'll Play The Fool" et al. surely play a part in influencing this instrumentation.

  • magic Dilla

  • This song was a diamond in a turd. The album was horrible. I love Common and sooooo wanted to like this album, but it's just not good. This song, on the other hand, was a silver lining on a big ugly cloud.

  • Under rated....but still excels!!!!

  • I know that many are saying that this song was ahead of it's time, but I'll say that it was behind it's time. Think back to the early 90's, there were a quite a few rappers/groups that used jazz infused hiphop, and they were blowing up, too! I feel that if this song had come out then, it probably would've been huge!. But, hiphop has changed so much in these past few year, so much so, that great songs like this one go unnoticed. Still, this is one of the baddest hiphop songs that I've heard!

  • This song proves that Dilla was ahead of his time. RIP Genius.

  • Dilla.

  • I CAN ONLY IMAGINE THE VIBE OF BEING IN ELECTRIC LADYLAND STUDIO + THE SOULQUARIANS + JILL SCOTT + CEE LO, ETC = ULTIMATE GROOVY WAVES OF SOUND

  • I LOVE THIS ALBUM !!!! THE WORLD WILL CATCH UP IN ANOTHER 30 YEARS !!!!

  • Not your typical J dilla beat..kinda uptempo type of song, but just shows his good ear for music!

  • HAPPY DILLA DAY

  • This song is unbeatable

  • one of the best fking songs ;)

  • I AM REAL HIP HOP MUSIC!

  • i love jill man her voice is the best thing PERIOD BLACK EYE PEAS had her? or she does that track for blackalicious man her voice is PRO best key.. and the lyrics the way he spits in this is like a fast jive talker... the music reminds me of the starwars scene.. I LOVE trumpets... UNDERGROUND FOR LIFE. it aint about money its about making beautiful sounds.. and making them your own via imprinting lyrics the music might make u feel.

  • this song is truely amazing,i love it,especially the chorus

  • This song kind of reminds of a scene from Idlewild or a movie where they have an old jazz club that your great grandmothers and grandfathers might have went to when they were young. Sure its not much to us, but back in their day that their version of clubbin'.

  • I like that horn sound effect. It sounds like a cornet and a trombone. Nice swing sample... I don't even know if I should call it a sample. This is like right out the 60's or 70's.

  • Muted trumpet. I don't actually play trumpet so I can't tell you specifically what mute it is, but it sounds like a "wahwah" mute. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

  • Electric Circus is sooooooooooooo underated and wayyyyyyyyyyy ahead of its time......The world is still not ready for it.

  • def underrated!

  • A great Dilla production. The drums are sick, the sample also. Very tight work. Common is great too as usual. Nice vibe !

  • I LOVE THIS.

    This album is amazing.

I discovered Common very recently and man, he's dope!

  • is it just me? or does common make small changes to the hip hop world everytime he comes around with an album...even UMC

  • reminds of a song of madcon somehow. Beautifull music

  • produced by the soul quarianans and jay dee for the ummah the better parts obviously jay dee

  • I love this song. Very creative. More songs like this one need to play on the radio.

  • LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS SONG!

This was Electric Circus was extremely the most different and underrated album he made.

  • damn dont the lady have a sexy voice

  • SO SO SO SO SO SO TRUE!!! HE WENT INTO EVERY GENRE!!! ROCK, PSYCHEDELIC, ELECTRONICA, (as this song shows) SWING JAZZ...you name it, HE DID IT!!!

  • @JonesDemeanor:

And I don't understand why! This album is amazing, especially this song. I love this.<3

  • @Thitoss

Because it was way ahead of its time back in the day. Now, people are trying to imitate Electric Circus.

  • @JonesDemeanor Word! So many people slept on this album because it came after "Like Water for Chocolate" and people was expecting another album like that, but because of its experimental sounds this album is worth taking note of. The tribal hypnotic beats are insane, Dilla did an awesome job.

  • Had this album since it first dropped and never noticed this song till now. Like the old time 1930's beat.

  • RIP J Dilla

  • yo i didnt know jdilla produced this

  • electric circus was produced by dilla its a mad sick album look up the soul aquarianans

  • This is one of the best examples of why I love hip hop so much...

  • i actually thought Electric Circus was a great album! He had POD, Bilal, Mary,Jill, E.Badu and more...i mean the songs were great but everybody wanted the hard Common not the ever changing Common who tries new things Common. sometimes Common aint so common but cant tell grown folks nuffin:( fav song off the album actually so big ups for postin it!

  • I agree..I loved this album...it is so unique and had some of my favorite artists on it.

  • Allot of us didn't like the album at the time because it did push the creative envelope. However, looking back, I for one am impressed by the album because I matured as a listener and realized that I had a trained ear for the status quo at the time this dropped. I broke out of it and here we are enjoying this album together. This track was my favorite when I copped the disc...bootlegger, prohibition, speak-easy, swing music.

  • dude- your willingness to admit that you basically were following the trend then, speaks volumes. your response is great man and ya, this song is one of my favorites! I love Jill's voice too. Songs like this remind me of songs like Janet Jackson's "Alright" track. I enjoy any modern twist on swing/jazz music.

  • sick tune (L)

  • Who's this guy on this picture?? It's not Common!

  • J DILLA

  • awesome

  • j dilla the thrilla is the sickness

    with the legitness

  • I remember wonderin how it would sound in a club... had the chance to witness it... the vibe just.. purifies everything ... THUMPIN HARD

  • dope tune.

  • about time someone posted this song
