sigh.... we can't change the past but we can prevent this from happening again in the future. to do that japan needs to first accept its past and take responsibility. the japanese govt needs to stop hiding and denying its past.
Many women responded to calls for work as factory workers or nurses, and did not know that they were being pressed into sexual slavery.
According to Japanese soldier Yasuji Kaneko[40] "The women cried out, but it didn't matter to us whether the women lived or died. We were the emperor's soldiers. Whether in military brothels or in the villages, we raped without reluctance."[41] Beatings and physical torture were said to be common.
You are ignorant for the comfort woman. It is common sense that the comfort woman is a prostitute. The comfort woman in the battlefield was making a packet. It is clear also in the investigation of the U.S. military. Do you know the fact that the U.S. military ordered Japanese Government to make the comfort place for the American soldier when the U.S. military occupied Japan? The U.S. military made jaoanese woman a sex slave.
If you listen to the video, you will see that Japanese textbooks do not DENY comfort women. They just touch on the topic very briefly. Also, the teachers belong to the left-wing teachers union, so they teach additional information, not in the textbook.
Nihonshi B (日本史B). Published by Tokyo Shoseki on February 10, 1999. Approved on March 31, 1998. * Comfort women: "Footnote: There were many Korean women who were brought to combat area as wartime comfort women. Recently the victims have been vocally protesting for official apology and individual reparations from the Japanese government." (p. 308)
prostitutes. Why did sex slaves earn a lot of money ? At that time, the majority are Japanese women in the comfort woman. Is nobody appealing for damage by a Japanese woman? japanese ex-soldier of 87 years old
said that a comfort woman opened her groin and a lot of japanese soldiers were done in some minutes while smoking the cigarette, and
she was ungraceful. Japanese soldiers paid money with her, made love, and did not rape.
So you're saying comfort women were paid to engaged in those painful and inhuman and degrading act? And if they actually got paid (not that they really did) it is alright to humiliate and degrade women like that? (Yes, I'm talking over hundred men a day.) And you're saying it's not rape. Yes...you're right...exactly.
We are not talking about prostitutes, or women sold by their parents. We are talking about women abducted by the Imperial Army. Of course, there were many prostitutes handled by private agents.
1. Exactly. Japanese textbooks don't mention such things, because the government deliberately deleted that part of history. History perversion at its core.
2. Most former comfort women are DEAD. They were either killed after Japanese defeat at the end of WWII in attempt to rid of evidences and witnesses. Many others who survived died of old age. Those who are still alive are very old now. Many of these people don't like to talk about their painful experiences. Others who do are ignored.
The fact remains that the comfort women issue was vastly exaggerated. It never appeared in the media until the early 1990s. So why didn't the women complain earlier? It seems highly unlikely that so many women could have been abducted.
Experiences of individual women may be a little different. So of course, if you compare the least extreme one to the most horrible one, there might be some differences. But don't call that exaggeration, because many individual witnesses are still alive.
Why didn't they complain earlier? If I were raped like that, I certainly wouldn't be bragging about it right away. Maybe they needed some time to process. Or maybe they found the right time when people actually paid attention to these things.
The figure of 300,000 comfort women is exaggerated. The claim that the Imperial Army abducted so many women is implausible. There are only about 40 complaints, and very few are verified. Even if only 1% of the comfort women complained, there should be 3,000 complaints. Also, this topic only emerged in the early 1990s.
While I am sure that individual women had bad experiences, the claims of a massive, systematic abduction policy seems implausible.
I am glad they covered this. It is very important. But why is it Americas responsibility? We arent even taking care of our own people. Where are all the other countries? Why do we have to use our money and soldiers to protect and take care of everybody. I am not saying we should not help but we should not be the 1 factor every time either. congrats to the Egyptian women and I hope the Japanese recognize thier war crimes.
It is our responsibility because our representatives always go on about how it is. And, if no one else will do it that doesn't mean our gov can just ignore it.
Awesome. Keep up the great work, Al Jazeera. :) Just so you know, I'm voting out anyone that is on the side of Bush. Hopefully we'll all make a difference this next election cycle.
Having worked for Planned Parenthood for years, I can attest no organization fought the global gag rule as hard as we did. The election of a pro-choice pro-women pro-family planning president appears to be only answer to this horrid decision.
Noo that is a great comment! *laughing* I did not understand. To have a president of any gender that treats the family well is a blessing, I hope it is Hillary, myself.
for reference purpose, there is a team project uploaded on youtube - what the japan did to china, in which more info is provided.
Peace!!

1. Japanese textbooks do mention comfort women, except the New History Textbook, which is only used by 0.039% of schools.
2. Korea claims there were 300,000 comfort women. If only 1% came forward, that would be 3,000 women. But the testimony is only from 30.
3. There was never any mention of comfort women until the 1990s.
4. The 30 women changed their testimony under the advice of lawyers.
5. Taiwan never mentioned comfort women, but Japan's policy toward Taiwan and Korea was the same.

I support birth control because I don't support abortion, but how do they not know these women haven't been raped it's too broad.
