@MarquisEstelle I don't disagree at all, but the GT-R 'fell' in my eyes a little bit when I heard a few things about it... 1) They raised the price from $68k to $85k US. Still a bargain but, 2) they take a loss on every GT-R.

A Vette is a piece of crap but a Z06 comes close to a GT-R and is $10k cheaper, and GM takes a profit on them.

Why toute the bargain supercar thing if the whole thing is a financial failure? The fact remains that speed isn't free. Either we pay for it or they do.

The dealer made it clear that he was ready to deal on it. Very few are in the market for a car like this right now, and I did not know that Nissan takes a loss on building them. The conclusion of seeing one in person was this, it is the ultimate "nondescript supercar," maybe "discrete supercar," if there is a such thing.

@MarquisEstelle That's exactly what I think the GTR is really about now. Discretion. Its a supercar you can drive to church without getting judgmental looks. Really it raised the bar for the outgoing generation of supercars. Everyone thought they had Ferrari on the ropes with it, and then the 458 came out which is in a whole new league. Then there is the new 911 Turbo S which will do 0-60 in 2.7 seconds. I still love the GT-R, but only for what it is, not for what people think it should be.

Just a little exhaust work would get you 50 more horsepower, which will easily settle any other Japanese tuner or American muscle disputes. How often do you encounter a 911 turbo on the streets? I've seen a precious few, and those guys aren't looking for a fight. You can get all your speed kicks and have a reasonable, reliable car. To me it's perfect for what it is.

So a sportscar have to go really fast on a racing track (driving 400m straight is fun-but no sport) So here in germany the 458 was only able to do the Nurburgring-Nordschleife in exactly the same time as the GTR from 2008, the GTR 2011 was 4 seconds faster. 4! Seconds faster with 40HP less power and 200kg more weight. Also the Turbo S couldn`t match the 2011GTR...i say this as german porschefan

Nissan is obsessed with using laptimes to market the car and will continue to take a loss on them to look like they are some kind of magic auto manufacturer. The current Turbo S launches actually rape GTR's. R&T's 0-60 time was 2.6s. Now maybe on the Nordschleife it'll be a different story but I doubt it.

@mpalm887 dude...the 2011 GTR with 530hp is very the same as the 2010 Turbo S with 530hp. Both are going from 0-125mph in approx. 10seconds....both are extreme fast accelerating cars. With 2,9sec for 0-100kph(0-62mph) you can`t rape a 3,0sec car. We live in different countries with different priorities...we are more interested in "track"-racing you are more interested in "drag"-racing. I bet: if you go for a fast round here...you will be faster with the gtr than with the 458 and with the turbo S

By "rape" I was referring to launch comparisons of the current Turbo S (0-60 2.6s) and the '09-'10 GTR (0-60 3.5s). But crap, it looks like on the ring the GTR is tough to beat. Damn, my neighbor Curtis just won the Castrol Syntec top car challenge with his MK4 Supra back yard project, beating a tuned GTR, BMW M3, Shelby Cobra, NSX and S2000. These cars had over $100,000 put into them and they all got beat by a daily driver Supra. Go read Super Street and see for yourself.
