  • Just getting into doing henna/mehndi. What do you do about wudu. Do you just do your wudu and then reapply the henna paste? Even with the really intricate designs? Or is this just something you reserve for that time of the month?

  • aw u are such a sweety! thnx jazak'allah!

  • i wanted to ask you about the tip no.10 where you mentioned that keeping 30 minutes is not enough. I have been buying henna cons for a while and i keep the henna on till is dry, but still get the really black color. Does it mean those henna cons have dyes ?? Please help

    Thank You

  • great vid :)

  • بارك الله فيكي

  • thank you so much

  • Assalam o aalikum...i am shehna...i usually used henna which is already in the cones because there is no henna tree or good powdered henna in my neighborhood..so what can i do to make my henna look very dark...i am getting engaged soon and really wanted to have a very dark henna

can you please help me ???

  • can you grow your own henna plant in american? if so how could you turn it into the paist? and is there sertain states in american that henna would grow best in? what sates woud that be?

  • Can you use most of the tips on this video for putting henna in hair? i want to get a really dark stain on the hair and will be using body art henna for this.

  • Thank u for all the tips and tutorials u do! I just mixed my 1st batch of jamila and waiting for color release...as I was mixing, I watched ur videos and I think I got the perfect consistency.

  • this helps soooo much thankyou!

  • Can I dye my hair with this?

  • thanks for all the tips, i'll try them :-)

  • Thanks for the tips!!!

  • very helpful!! thank you sister

  • thank you so much for the beautiful awareness !! it means a lot :)

  • jazakALLAH u answer me i have one more question plz define me how i henna on to the nail for dark color

  • @zeeshannleary apply the henna many times, maybe 3-4 times.

  • @19kl95 Do a search on "black henna reactions" in Google and you can see the damage it can do.

  • Assalam o aalikum i m zeeshan here from pakistan i m very thank ful to your tip i have a little bit problem if u solve very pleasure to you problem is when i completed my hinna paste it,s very hard how i soft this paste if i mix water it's affect the color plz tell me what can i do for that thanks.

  • @zeeshannleary walaikum asalam Zeeshan. If you henna is hard add more water, a little oil, and some sugar.

  • I hear hyperfix tape is good to put over your dried design. It will seal around the edge of the design and keep it secure while you sleep. Pieces can be cut to fit.

  • hi i want to ask you when my henna was dry and seald it itched a little soo i removed was like 5 hours after dry and i pulled it from my skin the parts where my henna was it got swollen a little but next day was ok is that normal?

  • @rosy2140 Some itching can happen sometimes and that is normal. Swelling is not normal. It could mean that you have an allergy to henna, an oil used in the henna, or a citrus allergy (if lemon juice was used in the paste). It could also be possible that there was a chemical in the paste that was not supposed to be used on the skin.

  • can you use the sugar when you use henna on your hair? I have black hair, i'd like red highlights, should i make my henna very dark or should i just mix my henna for just 5 minutes to get redder rather than darker maroon highlights? thanks

  • hi,hope ur ok.i wanted to ask if i could add 3 oils into the henna paste?i.e eucalyptus, tea tree and lavender or any of the others?if i can mix 3 oils then which ones would giv the henna paste a nice smell.

    Take care.

  • @Afshiie The smell would be nice, but it might also irritate the skin. I would recommend sticking with one oil or two that are not strong. Eucalyptus alone would work really well. Lavender and tea tree together might be nice.

  • thanks for the video but i am still getting light brown orangy stains! even though i used fresh henna kept it on for 24 hours and put lemon and sugar in my mixture. is there any other reason why i am not get dark brown stains?

    thanks

  • @apokinut11 Are you anemic? Menstruating or Pregnant? If any of these apply then this is the issue. If not....Do you apply the henna to clean lotion or oil free skin? Where are you applying the henna?

  • @FreeHandMehndi nope to all 3. and i am applying the henna to my feet and also my hands and i cleaned the areas of skin before i started.

  • @apokinut11 hmmmm....this is one I may not be able to answer. How long do you let your henna dye release and what temp is the room it dye releases in?

  • Comment removed

  • Lol@ bruised banana color :)

  • can someone tell me... (im a noob) do you wash your hand after applying henna to get the stain or do you leave henna on and have like a 3d type of tattoo ?

  • can boys get henna?

  • @jeffreywish Yes! They can also be henna artists.

  • i have African henna powder then when i have to mix its (makes it ready)? before my coustomer comes to make henna tatoo how many hours i must make my henna ready before i use it would you please help me please

    thanks

  • @rosi2011able I recommend watching my video series on how to mix henna paste, there are a lot of tips you might find helpful.

  • awesome :)

  • @triativ Cows, horses, bunnies, frogs, birds.

  • So, I should keep the henna on for two days?

  • @Appleeclipse I don't know if that's possible. 1 hour for an ok stain, 4 hours for a good stain, overnight for the best stain. Anything longer than overnight is too long.

  • Thanks so much for the tips, I can follow all but the fresh henna powder one. I live in the UK asnd I can't really find anywhere to buy fresh henna powder, which is a REAL shame :(

  • Oh the answer to the suger causing the henna to stay wet longer it that chemically suger attracts water meaning water will stay where the sugar is (in the henna paste) and not evaporate.

  • @LuLu6214 Cool, thanks.

  • Mashallah, I grew up only using water, and got that light orange color. Thanks for the tips.

  • @miagirl thnks ;)

  • @TeamMinajNov23 Check out my video about aftercare. I show how to make the syrup and how to do other aftercare steps for henna designs.

  • ur muslim

  • any "dislikes" of this awesome video is simply a misunderstanding of:

    Dis I Like.

Mmmm hmm! keep up the awesome work!

  • @jerm22jerm :-)

  • can't i get a darker stain by combing a black henna with a red henna ???

  • @iraqnroll90 No that will not work. All black henna will get you is skin irritation, burns, illness and possibly cancer. Stay far away from black henna, it is a dangerous chemical and is NOT a natural or safe product. Watch my video about black henna. You can get a dark henna stain by following the tips given in this video.

  • @FreeHandMehndi oh thnx for tht info, cuz i was about to do tht ;)

  • asalam oealakoem,

I have a question about the aftercare of a brides henna.

Do i have to wet it every couple of minutes when its dried or do i have to seal it with a sugar/lemon mixture or just do nothing and leave the henna just like that.

whats your way of doing this?

Sorry for the bothering> May Allah bless you, Ameen.

    Djazakallahoe garian oegtie.

    wa alakoem salam

  • @zakabakaz walaikum as salam. Please watching my two part video about aftercare. The way I do bridal aftercare is the same way I explain in the video. If the bride wants to sleep in the henna I wrap her hands and feet in toilet paper and use paper tape to hold the toilet paper on. I do not wet it every few minutes because the paste will become too wet and the design will bleed.

  • asalam oealakoem,

Ive read a lot of kinds of recipes for henna and ive also seen your video and i see that alsmost in every recipe there is oils used. Im wondering if its necessary to use this to get a dark stain, Can i accomplish a dark stain without using oils. I was wondering if you have experience with henna where you dont use oils.

Thank you an may Allah bless you

  • @zakabakaz walaikum as salam. It is not necessary to use oils in your henna paste. You can simply use henna and lemon juice if you want to. If the henna you have is fresh and of good quality then you should have no problem getting a good stain, but you can get a darker stain with oil. Part of getting a good stain is proper aftercare too.

  • Salam Aleikum

Thanks so much for all your wonderful videos and information about the art and application of henna. They have been very helpful to me as I am learning :)

I was wondering...do you have a video about how to make the sugar/lemon juice syrup for after henna application?

    Thanks!! Bislama

  • @caramarieisme walaikum as salam. Thank you for watching my videos. For instructions on how to make the sugar lemon syrup I suggest watching my 2 part video on aftercare.

  • Are you American???

Inshallah God will bless you and lighten your way to heaven!!!

  • @MahaAlqutami96 Yes, I am American. May Allah bless all the Muslims with good in this life and the hereafter. Ameen

  • Thank you so much for this video :) I've been getting henna done all through my childhood on both Eids but I've finally begun doing it myself on my own time. My skin isn't too dark but the back of my arm/hand is darker and I'd like a darker shade of henna on there. Thank you, again!

  • what is henna

  • @ZeliahBaby That's a very good question. It is a natural dye that comes from a plant called Lawsonia inermis. When the dye is applied to hair or skin it stains a red/orange/maroon color. It is most famous for Indian bridal make up, you will often see the brides with decorative drawings on the skin. It lasts anywhere from 1-3 weeks. For hair, it is a natural dye that is permanent. You can also google henna and check out the facts on wikipedia.

  • do you have any clue how to REMOVE henna? its really annoying when it stays for a logn time...even when i dont want it to! plz heeelp!

  • @Diva4eVa123 Henna is not removable. There are things that will speed up the fading process. Two of those things are swimming in a pool with chlorinated water, and using hand sanitizer over the area where the henna is. You could also use body scrub, but again, this will not remove it, it will only make it fade quickly.

  • @FreeHandMehndi thankyou sooo much...hope this helps the next time i put henna!

  • I really enjoyed this vid..i liked the tips...keep up the vids my beautiful sis :)

    Salam Alaikum

  • @Muslimah4lyfe1 Walaikum as salam. I am glad you enjoyed the videos :-)

  • May Allah bless you, sister. :)

  • @gadgetnoob May Allah bless you as well. Ramadhan Mubarak!

  • @FreeHandMehndi

    Ramadan Mubarak. :D

  • thank you so much for the tips; they are very helpful. i always use to get premixed henna cones, never tried using fresh henna and make the paste myself. i couldnt find lavender oil anywhere so i just used eucalyptus and tea tree oil..it worked really well. i only left the henna on my hands for half an hourand still got a really dark stain . I love doing henna for kids on Eid. I'm really excited this time cuz henna that i used b4 never turned out this dark.

  • @aaina2000 Happy the tips were helpful. Not only will the stain be darker, but it will last longer than the stain from pre mixed cones too. Eucalyptus and tea tree oils are great oils for henna, especially Indian henna.

  • thanks!

  • I got henna put on in Morocco and it burned really badly. I have had it done here in America by Pakistanis and it didnt burn. Why did it burn so bad? And why do you not recommend black henna?

  • @asakali Watch my video about black henna. That video will answer your questions about black henna. Sounds like you've had a black henna tattoo.

  • Using several of these tips, my last design was MUCH darker than my first. Invaluable advice! Thanks!!!

  • i wash my hand to get the dry henna out and it doesnt do anything

  • @zainabmzd12 Try not washing it off, and maybe using olive oil to remove it, and see if you get a better stain. I have done it this way for 7 years and my stains are almost always dark red, maroon, or dark brown. I use water when I don't want the stain to take very well.

  • What is the best kind of sugar to add to my henna? Im planning on ordering some Monsoon henna from the 2008 crop, what kind of sugar would you recommend to give it a good stringy consistency? I've heard of people using table sugar, raw sugar, honey etc...but in your experience what is best?

  • i am a face and body painter i work at a costume shop and there was a girl who came in and said she got a plant dye painting that would last 2 to 3 weeks i have tried to find this plant dye have you ever heard of this

  • @justwalking1 Jagua maybe?

  • I heard of adding coffee to maek henna darker, does this work?

  • @nit4sz Coffee is one of many liquids that one can mix henna paste with. It is not the coffee that stains the skin darker, but the acidic liquid from the coffee that brings out more dye molecule from the henna. It does not help to make the stain to be much darker than it already is, just a little bit.

  • after the stain is on and the henna paste has dried all up and its peeled off can i putt olive oil or baby oil on the stain to seal it in instead of lotion

  • @WebkinzFan008 Yes olive oil and baby oil are just fine.

  • Wonderful information. Thank you for sharing!

  • hi! Just wondering, the type or brand of henna won't effect the color intensity as long as you follow these tips? Like... it will be dark with any kind of henna?

also, why don't you reccomend Indigo, or black henna?

    thanks!

  • @TheLadyNicky I have two videos that I think will answer your questions. Search for my video "12 tips on buying henna powder" also watch both of my videos about black henna.

  • @FreeHandMehndi thank you! these videos were really helpful!

  • thanks

  • hi,I like your tips,I have a question-when I finish my henna desin-what i nead to do?bland water with sugar and put on the tatoo? how I make it?

    thank you

  • @merilu23 You have to wait for the design to be 50% dry, then add the sugar/lemon syrup, or add sugar/water syrup and tap it lightly on the design. To make the syrup, put two spoon fulls of sugar in the bowl, then add a little lemon juice until it is like a smooth paste (not runny), then use a q tip or cotton ball to apply it on top of the henna design.

  • your great! like your tips.

  • @tdivinebeauty33 Thank you. I'm glad you like :)

  • My friend and i are working on a project and we really need to make a black tattoo look, i was wondering if we were to mix red and green henna if that would do the trick or a double application of the same design, any and all help will be very appreciated

    thank you for your time

  • @Hiskool1s I will be uploading a video in the next 24 hours that will help you. I do want to mention that henna is not an ink. It does not come in red and green. Henna is a natural plant dye, that when applied to the skin can stain the skin anywhere from light orange to dark brown, sometimes a rusty red color.

  • Would it be ok to spray the lemon suger sirop with a spraybottle (being carefull to not make it too wet) in stead of using a cotton ball?

  • @PaganLayla Many people do this, and it is fine. I did it once and it did not work out so well. If you decide to use a spray bottle, use one that has a spray opening wide enough to let the sugar through.

  • This was very helpful, and you are beautiful and wise. Thank you :)

  • omg thnx soo much! this reallly helped! :]

  • These tips are great! Camille is a fantastic resource and her videos rock! The only tip here I don't agree with is #14... There's no way to tell what is in most Indian "Mehndi Oils", and many of them definitely contain clove, camphor, or other potential irritants....

  • Can you use Henna that used for hair? Will you get the same effect? Its fresh just in sept it was made.

  • I recommend using henna for skin, on skin.

  • @azra1sga No, Jamila henna without a crop date is either for hair, or it is fake. Try Brite henna, it is a great brand, and is found at many markets.

  • QUESTION ON TIP #4

Can you use Organic TEA-Tree essential oil? Does this have Terp or terpense?

  • Good question. Tea tree oil naturally has high concentrations of terpineol, so whether you use organic, or the stuff that has a bunch of additives, it will have terpineol aka terp. I highly suggest using Tea Tree oil from Australia, they have strict regulations on the oil they export. Hope this helps.

  • hello dear! this is manjula! thanks for all your tips! now I know how to make my henna become dark! thanks! I'll keep in touch!

you have a beautiful designs by the way!

  • hi there,

why do you discourage the use of black henna?

    thanks

  • Because it is dangerous and contains chemicals that burn the skin, cause liver damage, and can cause permanent scaring. Have you watched my video on black henna? There I give many many many reasons why we should stay far away from black henna. Google black henna and search images, you will find some scary stuff.

  • I actually used te black henna once on my nails and around the fingers. No lie it seriously took off a layer of my skin maybe i was allergic.

  • how do you find a crop date on the box? most of the boxes are written in arabic or hindi. also, most vendor don't know the crop date.

  • The crop date is usually printed on the box, and if the henna is for export, it will be in english letters and numbers. If there is not crop date, or the vendor does not know, dont but from them. I sell 7 different henna powders/pastes, and I know the crop date for all of them.

  • i have a severe allergy to citrus, so i can't use lemon. is there another liquid i can use?

  • Green tea, coffee water, black tea with cardamom. These all work for me. I have a sister with a citrus allergy, she gets a rash with tomatoes and oranges.

  • ok thank you so much!

  • thank u

i do most of the tips, still... it always comes out orange ... and all my friends with darker skin get the dark stains... does it have to do with ur skin color to be able to get the darker stains? The inside of my hands takes the henna the best my feet almost do not show the henna even ater a overnight stay....

a tip to see if the henna is old or not, isnt that the color of the henna as well? The older the henna powder the more army green it gets,,, the lighter and bright the better

  • The color of the powder has nothing to do with the stain it will give. Henna powder to vary in color depending on where it is from in the world. I would suggest using fresh Yemeni henna, and see how that works for you. What is the crop date on the henna you are using?

  • I've had complaints that the stain smells really bad, even long after the paste is removed. I know that some people don't like the smell. I have noticed it even days after I took the paste off and I wash a lot. The smell doesn't bother me, but is there something that can be done for those who don't like it without scrubbing? Lotions maybe? Though sometimes masking a bad smell can make it worse.

  • To be honest with you, I do not like the smell of henna paste. Strange thing for a henna artist I know. I use balms with strong scents like the lavender one I spoke about in my other video. I also terp my henna with strong smelling, but lovely oils like clove. I can smell henna paste long after it is gone too, and I cant stand the smell. Lol.

  • I forget why sugar retains moisture, but in baked goods, product made with sugar will hold longer because of the moisture content that the sugar held on to. French baguettes usually have no sugar in them, therefore only last for that day, while cupcakes may last for a few days.

  • Thank you Emily, that is what I needed to know. You have some of the most helpful tips and information.

  • You are SO helpful, jazakallah khair!!!

  • another thing sister that is posible is to do it just at the last day of you monthly...

I like it that way since no salah wasted and the hubby gets happy to see your effort ..well mine loves it!

  • Yes, very good point. I often do that myself.

  • thank you!

  • i think wearing a glove is about the best thing if you want to keep your hand clean and dry..and if " nature calls" just use new gloves after ! Welll thats is just about the best i can help. :)

  • I find it very hard sister to keep my henna on for more than 5 hours and I know for fact that it is better if you lieve it longer and dont wash too..But it is imposible to do chours and as a Muslim I can do anything at all like that! :(

  • I agree, we have to make wudu for salat, there is no way around that. I apply my henna most of the time after isha, and then sleep with it until fajr.

  • Any henna over 3 years is too old in my book. Other artist may say that older than 3 years is ok. Best is cool dry dark storage, then the freezer. I find that sometimes if the temp in the freezer changes, it can expose henna powder to moisture.

  • when i got married thats when i first got my henna designs done. I fel in love with it!!! i didnt wash my henna for nearly 15 hours plus!!!! My grandmother fed me etc etc! my henna was a deep maroon on the Nikah day :)

  • That's how you have to do it sometimes. When I had mine done, I was fed, and helped to the bathroom :)

  • How do you go about not washing you hands for a day? I mean, I'm pretty big on hygiene. Would you suggest wearing gloves throughout the day?

  • I am big on hygiene too. Many brides go without washing their hands to preserve their bridal henna. You could wear gloves. Good point.
