I am so impressed with this video. I didnt know much about Keith Whitley before, and now I am a confirmed fan. Those early ones especially with Ralph Stanley, and singing Hank on a radio show as a boy...just really blew my mind. What an incredible emotional quality he had in his singing.
I don't think Keith ever recorded "Mountain Dew" on an album. This clip is part of a show done around 77 or 78. I have been trying to find the complete show for a while. I have found most of the show here on Youtube, but not this song. If anyone has it, please post it.
I'm guessing the reason why the part of the show with "Mountain Dew" on it has not been posted to YouTube is because the closing credits show on the 2nd half of the performance. It doesn't matter to me, anything with Keith on it I appreciate. I have the show on DVD, if I can find it I could post it.
mamsmom97 thank you so much for this wonderful tribute to one of my heroes. Much appreciated... Lots a memories. If you can manage, could you try compiling one on Clarence White? Best to ya. - Pete
mamsmom97....thanks again for posting this legendary footage! I think I asked you about a year ago about that song "she never got me over you"........it was posted for a while. Are you going to post it again? KEITH WHITLEY IS THE MAN. thanks again!
What is the song playing from bout 1:10 to bout 2:00 I have been trying to find it. I dont know who to look for I HAVE to have that song.. and that song knowbodys buisness i cant find it either im dyin for those.
Both of those tracks were from Keith's "Kentucky Bluebird" CD, "The Buddy Starcher Show" from :26 to 1:20, then the radio interview where Keith talks about the Lonesome Mountain Boys from 1:20 to 2:05. That song that was included in the interview is not available on any CD, although it is rumored that the radio shows that they did, all 37 tapes, were purchased by Tim McGraw with plans to release them to the public. Dwight talks about them in an interview with Jesse James I have on my channel.
That's very nice of you to say. Thank you. There's just so much info out there that is wrong, mostly thanks to the numbnutz at CMT-dot-com. I just feel that someone has to clear up all the bad information for the new generation of country music fans in an effort to preserve his memory.
I'm very glad you are getting the correct stories out there...things can get so twisted by the idiots of media stations...thanks again for what you do!!!!
Thank you for the nice comment. So many, even after all these years, are still paying tribute to him in song. People like Ashton Shepherd, Lee Ann Womack, Joe Nichols, etc. I agree with you. There won't ever be another that will even come close, at least not in our lifetimes.
I still remember the day I heard the sad news that he had died...there have not been many days since then I have not listened to at least one of his songs.
Thank you so much for all your hard work on this project, and thank you again for sharing it with everyone. I enjoyed it very much! Keith Whitley was so amazing for the short time he was here with us. Future generations need understand who he was and how much he gave to country music.
such a shame he woulda been well no tellings what, a great voice thats missed alot and i agree theres no such thing as country music anymore......damn shame murder has been commited on music row for sure
I agree with you 100%. It's sad that true country music is almost a thing of the past. Don't know what they're playing on the country music stations today, but it's not country!! God bless men like Keith, Don, Vern, etc........ I miss them!!
This is great stuff. I have always been a fan of Keith. I just recently got some of his Second Generation stuff with Ricky Skaggs. WOW!! Man that was some amazing stuff!
Thanks for sharing this! I've been having a great time going through all the Keith Whitley postings. He was a great singer - and I enjoy all of his music. Someone came up to me about 10 years ago and said my husband "looks just like Keith Whitley!" I wanted to find out what this Keith guy looked like and since then I've became a great fan of his music! He's amazing!
I think it was jkwfaninwv that posted a compilation last summer...it ended with keith singing "she never got me over you" I think was the title...? That was AWESOME! Can you please repost that? or is it coming in part 2? Anyway, thanks for doing what you do! Keith Whitley will NEVER be forgotten...
jkwfaninwv70 is me. I had my account suspended b/c I posted the entire Six Million Dollar Man pilot movie. I don't have the old KW101, unfortunately. Someone posted it to their imeem account, & my Orbit doesn't work on imeem. But I will try to use the song on Pt 2. I have 6 mins. of Pt 2 done so far, but the KW Association has taken all my attention lately. I agree with you. When we all work together, we will make sure that the name of Jackie Keith Whitley lives on. Thank you!
I'm glad to know that. I've been busy preparing an important video presentation that will be presented to the CMA next month. I may post it to YouTube, but not until the presentation's been made, so look for that in late July. And just purging, doing some spring cleaning, etc. Y'know, work first, play later. But again, thank you so much for the kind comment. I'm very flattered, and more motivated than ever to get Part 2 out there.
Well, so far I've got just over 6 minutes of the part 2 video complete. At the rate I'm going, there may be a part 3. But I've got to practice some self-restraint. Hang in there, it's coming.
Oh my Sharon! This is a wonderful video! It may surprise you, but I listen to "classic country" (on cable) every night when I go to sleep! I am going to sit down one day and watch as many of your vids as I can! I have a special part in my heart for country. I still watch The Grand ol Opera Saturday nights. I also will be looking forward to your next episode!
Thanks for stopping by, Dallas. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I hope to make that next episode soon. It may not be until after school lets out for the summer... 24 school days to go!
Sharon, I was just thinking...I work for the school system (here) too. I have been retired for a number of years but have been going back to help out. I will be done on June 3rd...can't wait! Have a nice summer... when you are done with work (too) Sharon! I am waiting for your next episode a lot..I love this one!!
Very nice editing. As a bluegrass fan, I enjoyed the first part a lot. I had never seen some of the photos you included! And BTW other than a great singer, he could do a darn good Lester impression! :-) Thanks again.
Thank you so much, Elin, for stopping by! That's why it's called "Keith Whitley 101;" it's like a crash course in everything Keith. I may call part 2 "Keith Whitley 201." Like a 200-level college course. What do you think? Anyway, did you learn anything?
I couldn't have done it without you, Shay. I've learned so much from you. Yes, it was a lot of work. But it's so worth it to me to have something like this out there and available, for a generation who doesn't remember a world with Keith Whitley in it, but who is inspired by those who do remember and was inspired by him, thereby benefitting from his genius. Thanks for watching.
Thank you, Troy. How are you feeling? I hope you're feeling better. You've been a real inspiration to Michaela to get her dad to stop smoking. She gets frustrated and cries because she's coming to realize that she doesn't have as much power to affect him as she once thought. I told her he has to want to do it for himself. We're still praying for you.
I've never heard him sing some of those songs. Awesome. Thank you.
