  • is this video related to the song by nevermore?...

  • Would this video by any chance be related to Heart collecter by nevermore

  • its the story of the heartless man. he feeds on other couples hearts, basicly destroying their relationship putting them on his level. When he absorbs their hearts is when he tries 2 fill the void where his heart should B. When he meets the girl he feels that he loves(since he doesnt know what love is or how 2 love & goes through the first & worst heartbreak i have ever seen, his hearts R ripped out litteraly) her boyfrend appears, & she never did love him & wasnt even looking @ him 2 begin with

  • Beautiful, but slightly disturbing.

  • Tragic Irony, isn't it?

  • music <3

  • About 30 pages of comments, but there´s not one of the most important things from this video: name and artist of THE song at the end !!!! Please, I can´t sleep without this important knowledge !!! :-)

  • @JakubKuncicky Vancouver Film School has a partnership with 5 Alarm Music, so songs for student projects are sourced from their library. If you'd like to check out their online library, you can go to their website: 5alarmmusic(dot)com

  • i love it! dark ,awesomely animated and to the point ...poor fellow,...

  • es fantástico!!!

  • 4:04-5:41 <3 fell in love with the guitars

  • how many frames per second does this animation have¿? excuse my bad english

  • where is the part that says inspiration warrel dane & nevermore?

  • amazing. Was he a heartbreaker before? or has he never been loved?

  • i liked this video

i thnk tht some ppl will watch this caus they fell just like him

i kno i always feel like him

    heartless and unloved

  • whats the song in the end? i really liked it

  • I applaud your students, you truly have some talent at your school.

  • the heart collector \m/ xD

    love the animation too :-/

    damn those heart breakers...

  • I already had seen this, but I came back to compare it to the new sound design, which I think is a good work.

The beginning of the song at the end, sounds like Portishead's Undenied.

  • This was pretty screwed up.

    I like it!

  • I enjoyed this. One of the longest shorts I have seen thus far. How long did this project take?

  • @Kasen717 Hi, students in our Classical Animation program typically spend between 4-6 months to take a final project such as this from concept to completion. Thanks!

  • @VancouverFilmSchool And you are talking about the 12 months Classical Animation Program? (Just need some clarity) This is just damn amazing.

  • @Kasen717 Hi, yes we are. Students spend the first part of the year learning different animation skills and fundamentals, then in the final half they begin the production work on their final project.

  • @VancouverFilmSchool I would love to do animation (mostly flash) all day ~<3 dream come true

  • Who do you think you are, goin' round makin' scars, collecting your jar of hearts? Who do you think you are?

  • who do you think you are...running round leaving scars.

    collecting your jars of hearts..

  • genius

  • BECAUSE HIS UGLY?

  • @aluurchin2

no,AND I CAN PRESS CAPS LOCK TOO DUDE!

  • @aluurchin2 Cuz she already had a guy and wasn't seeing hum, but her boyfriend.

  • pause it at exactly 0:26 :) he looks maaaaddd

  • What's the song at the end??

  • This reminds me of ''The Gentleman'' in Buffy the Vampire Slayer!

  • wow !

  • This reminds me of a song called Jar of Hearts. ;o

  • Warrel mentions this video in an interview. Search for "Song Meanings with Warrel Dane ".

  • the message wasn't presented well and it's confusing.

  • @PawelKolasa i agree with you :/ ~ i didnt quite get it until i saw the comments by Bogcom and Jeff55369.

  • @PawelKolasa Confusing?? How obvious do you want your symbols to be??!! For godssake. They couldn't be less subtle if they wanted. A man collects love that isn't really his, and when he finally gets the guts to offer love himself, he gets rejected. Duh.

  • @PawelKolasa If you can come up with proper feedback to support your claims then dont bother to comment at all

  • the heart look like chickens <3!

  • reminds me of zelda

  • brilliant idea!!! Maybe based on a true story...who knows....

  • good art LAME CONCEPT

  • The song at 1:41 really destroyed the nice atmosphere..

  • I don't get it.

  • What is the song when all the hearts enter into him?

  • besides the awesomeness of this short, does the end song have a name, or is there any way i can get it?

    thanks

  • my god that was depressing.

  • most misinterpreted song in music history..it isnt a story..it aint about any serial killer...its about THE heart collector and the people suffering the disease he spreads. "and we wont be here for long"-drug user , "the heart collector sings his song again."-right after the use..every single phrase fits perfectly , from the very start to the very end..

  • anybody know what the guitar riff from the very ending is from?

  • another couple was found dead this evening. the ripped out hearts indicate the infamous serial killer , the heart breaker who acts swiftly and rips the hearts of his victims in ways that no doctor can explain. over the past 3 years he killed more than a 1000 people. citizens are panicked and several of them are abandoning the city. we will keep you posted if anything new comes up.

  • @routhoula I see this in a similar way. This man suffers from the same demons of jealousy, lonliness, and regret as the Zodiac Killer from San Francisco. Zodiac always killed loving heterosexual couples, making sure to kill the man first. Destroying. In a similar way, this man wants to love as others do, but is so stricken that he doesn't know how or why. So he feeds off the loving relationships of others, hoping their feelings will make him loveable. But no, he is really just a hurtful parasite

  • Puro sentimento, o autor conseguiu passar uma mensagem de uma forma nada convencional, realmente perfeito

  • That's how it feels to have a broken heart! Or a thousand for him...

  • 'True Love' is freely given & expressed. You never know it's going to hit you. A wonderful video. You can't always get what you want, and it often hits you when you least expect it.

  • well this was um.... intresting.

  • I think what really happened was that the man never knew betrayal, or thouhgt outside himself. So when he sees the pretty woman on the street, he naively tries to give her all his love, but she already has a boyfriend. He experiences heartbreak for the first time. Plus, he has many hearts inside him, so it's amplified. It all falls apart, and he's left dull. He simply loved to much for nothing.

    Just my opinion!

  • I love it!!!

  • so far one of my Favorites\s.

  • the more hearts the more heart acke?

  • It's amazing and in a way kind of beautiful i LOVE it it's very well thought out and drawn

  • I like it :)

  • how dark but deep.... that man was hungry for love.. searching and looking but not finding it so he's full of anger and hate.. taking things that aren't his... still empty

  • Pretty deep; especially the beginning. The ending would have been more surprising if his heart was sitting on another heart collector's shelf. That's what the beginning seems to hint at or maybe he is just simply hateful for no reason. However, the beginning seems very antithetical from a character perception point and seems contra to that conclusion. Anyway, nice vid. VFS does great stuff.

  • Does the song at the end sound like Portishead ?

  • ..And that work for nothing.

Time for the old kill a mall --> Suicide.

  • He has a heart fetish

  • love kills slowly

  • The music it`s awesome! Good job!

  • *sigh... that's how my weekend ended up. fuckin depressing.

  • A man,so lost and empty, devoid of love tried to gain it by ripping and stealing the happiness (and hearts) of others. Only to fall back into it by the means of karma... and the ingenuinity of his love.

  • wow niiiiice

  • I've heard of be a bleeding heart romantic but...I don't think it's supposed to be a literal term.

  • *sniffs*

  • That was very beautiful and sad

Dx mad animation talents you guys have

  • Poor old Voldemort :(

  • Very nice. Though the hearts of the people in the beginning are in the wrong side of the chest. D:

  • Wow... really amazing. The very beginning reminded me of the short story 'The Tale-Tell Heart' because at the beginning it seemed as though he was very annoyed at the constant heartbeats of others. Great animation, great idea, great everything.

  • I feel his pain. I wouldn't go to that extent though...

  • Awesome Animation. Dude, PLEASE make another !

  • A little creepy o.O

  • i really know how this guy feels :(

  • really really good. almost perfect. congratulations. i hope your talent will be appreciated someday like deserves it

  • looks like Kill Bill 3 !:)))

  • In one word: Amazing

I'm going to bed now, but I will think allot of this movie in the days to come

    really amazing!

    Greetz from Holland

    Matty

  • oh gosh...how sad :(((((

  • is this malmsteen ???

I mean the music when the guy puts all the hearts inside him

  • awesome***

  • I honestly liked it better when it had the calm classical music in the background...which was what it was posted as originally. Just seemed to fit the mood more.

  • That was amazing from start to finish!!! Love the animation!!

  • This was.... interesting, I felt bad for the guy though

  • awesome loved it :D

  • How could you be so heartless??

  • ok...eww

  • love it!!

  • [continued]

Because all the hearts he stole didn't belong to him it wasn't genuine. In the end, he ended up loosing it all and felt empty inside anyway.

  • To me what the artist is trying to say is the main character is find a place for himself by manufacturing a false sense of 'heart' even to the point of taking it from other individuals. [note in the beginning he had a hole in his chest.]

The heart is a metaphor for many things, and in this case it has a two fold meaning. Firstly, he's taking something from other people, this could be material possessions, status, friends/family, ect...

  • lol 1:14, I thought, "Wow, he's the one to blame for all those deaths in America!"

  • This is quite interesting. It was really bizarre and I think i understood what you were trying to say in this film but i have to agree with toonyfatninjas that you missed the point for the most part. I also agree with the advice that toonyfatninjas gave even though he is being an egoistic jerk, no offense. I do agree with him that if she just refused him without the guy then it would me more effective but the most important element that is missing is why is he trying to collect those hearts?

  • and is not harold mcboing boing is Gerald McB.B. because his work is from like century's old it still don't have the flavor that it needs. see when you make a story everything in that story suppose to connect with one another but this is rare to find in an animation so far i never seen it. to all artist is about perfecting there work but to me is about becoming one with your art like a samurai with his sword.

  • you have no authority to dictate someone's art or the way he tells his stories, no matter how 'talented' you think you are, there are many different ways to present animation. have you ever seen harold mcboing boing? very minimalist, but it tells a story in a specific way. there is no one way to do art, and to think yourself an authority on the matter is dumb and small-minded

  • see to me each and every character that i draw even the extras, in an animation are as equal to my main character in everything. i don't just draw an extra character just to play with i will give actual life and not just glue them in the back but they will have a names and purpose even if you only see him once or for like a half of second. is to bad my first real animation is not out for another 8months to 1year.

  • like Pocahontas 1 and 2 a goofy movie, Cinderella like all 3, Aladdin a little bit, mulan, and most of all beauty and the beast just to name a few or i won't have enough room here for comments.

  • yeah so i hope we cool, i mean your not the only artist i have come across here on Y.T. i have challenge many and they get mad at me but later sees this and comment that i was right and kindly thank me for lending them me eyes. that are rare to find an artist like me. i guess is because i can visualize in detail in my head an exact replica of anything and just add the necessary small details that most artist miss heck even Disney has miss this in like all there films.

  • i don't know how all this people don't see this maybe you have to be an artist like me to see this.who can see the smallest details in just about anything.i,m not bragging or anything i,m just pointing out what wrong with this picture and trying to help a talented artist like you become more passionate with your art & characters just put your self in there shoes and walk & see how hard it is.but someone like me is made to make you walk's more easier so don't get offendant i,m rare artist to find

  • and while there giving him a believable emotions of anger and sadness and oppression that your audience can feel now that's how it should have been made. and that guy was not necessary either she could of just say no that she taken then he will be turn down for real and not by some misconception brute that character took away the whole essence of the story and character your audience would have felt it more if she actually turn him down.

  • the character should express facial disappointment rather than torture or fear this will support the story and the character look's are sinister, fear, and torture this character need balance and posture. it lacks moral judgment. and ending with all heart's popping out was not necessary. a simple walk away disappointed facial expression and walking into a dark alley getting mad and kicking stuff like trash cans and what not. there he would show your audience in his true nature.

  • this is failure the expression those not fit the script. why if it shows at the beginning that he afraid or tormented by this but he has collected like thousands of heart's and he a heart collector according to title you think he be use to it. then when he in his chamber he's like it's all normal. this is a Chris cross thing. this shows nothing "so as an artist i say that you miss your own point here" other people will not understand this. the expression in this are not sync with the title.

  • Congratulations!

  • yuckk..

  • Lovely. Good job

  • I don't think I get this for the sole fact that I haven't experienced a heartshattering moment

  • Bizarre... emotive.

  • my favorite forever

  • I really didn´t cach the meaning of this story! Sorry, can somebody help?

  • he is trying to fill the void in his heart with other peoples love, but its never the same as having somebody love you.

  • you have described in excellent way !!!! it goes with the ending music !!!

  • badass :D

  • damn. it hurts so badly to have a shattered heart.

  • Some interesting visuals but, not the nightmare I thought I was going to watch.

  • This is David Green again. You still haven't changed the info about this video yet. Please take my name off of it as this is NOT MY WORK.

  • Loved the animations.

  • is there any schools in australia that do this stuff?

    like in melbourne.

  • i wonder if they use adobe for this?

  • Please please please tell me more about the person who did music for this and where I could find more of their stuff. It's beautiful. I think "Matthew Thomas" was listed in the credits, but I thought I'd ask where I could find more of his work. Thanks so much =)

  • but i am persistant

  • Incredible! Artful! Just damn good! VFS needs to make a feature film with all these short movies in it.

  • one of the most original and best video clipz so far :D!! and so damn sad aswell..amazin animation ^_^ *FAVZ*

  • ho...god..

  • "MASTERPIECE"

  • aww...sad

  • that was very creepy

i think i almost pissed my pants lol

    i loved it.. favorited

  • Well, it's deep... but also kinda creepy.

  • Most people get the meaning of the ending. I've just got my own interpretation for the beginning of the clip: he is lonely in the world where people surrounding him have their own loves to care about. The action of "collecting" people's hearts and storing them in pair in bottles represents his desire to have a beloved person in his life, which is too hard to be true. When he saw the girl standing alone on the pavement, he thought she was in the same situation as his...while she wasn't.

  • i thought basically the same thing but in the beginning i also thought the fact he kept every heart he collects meant he keeps every heart close to him. if he had something to love he would keep it forever.

  • Wonderful!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Amazing! I Loved It :)

  • Interesting story with such a sad ending.

    A quite unique style.

  • wonderful!

  • this is amazingly beautiful i cried at how good this was, its so sad that she was looking at another and not him.

  • Just amazing :)
