lovely bit of gear, but I think it's over priced..... I'm not sure it'd withstand a proper stage environment .... it reminds me of the foot version of the Korg Nano series.... they don't last five minutes on stage... you can pick up an FCB1010 for less than £120 and it has more assignable buttons...and two expression pedals... I'd think about the SoftStep if it were £100 perhaps
@schifferbrainz .... hmmmm, ok.... you may be right, there's some nice additional features on the soft step.... but like @columthealmighty says .... "would have been good to see it used in an actual live environment. like a club or something."
My fear is that you probably don't see the risks I'm seeing perhaps.... and that's not wishing to be patronising, but unless you're playing the clubs and festival stages, you wouldn't know what I'm on about... it simply isn't heavy enough mate.
thanks for the feedback. I placed my order 2 days ago.
As for my question, to be more precise, in the preferences under "midi" you can choose between many control surface (launchpad etc...) that are directly mapped to ive . I wondered if you developped a script so that the Softstep coud be available from this list ? But Anyway, custom midi affectation are probably close to one's need
@theau61 We don't have a control surface script written for Ableton, mainly because of how easy it is to assign SoftStep controls to Ableton through MIDI learn, since practically everything in Live is MIDI assignable. This gives you much more flexibility with custom assignment and control setups, which would not be as easy to do with a non-editable control surface script.
@KeithMcMillen I'd like to agree, but as a dual FCB1010 user, with a bespoke midi script built to run Ableton ...I can say there's nothing inflexible about preassigned mapping ....
1, Premapping with a script means your environment is fully operational even if you've only started with a couple of tracks... as you bring in more midi/audio tracks, they're already assigned.
2, Premapping means less conflicts.... and more dynamic usage....
I think it's a shame to not have the expression pedals like the FCB1010's have, you might disagree with me, but I have a lot of experience in the control surface world, and I know that making things smaller doesn't always help those who're in need of a big robust pedal their foot can find before their eyes are needed....if that makes sense. I think you're on to a good thing, don't get me wrong, but it's not replaced FCB1010's for me yet, especially price wise. ps USB on stage, on floor? :/
how can i get that or other script for ableton?

my first impression is that this would work better as a hand pad not a foot pad...
unless your barefoot.
djSpinege 1 year ago
@djSpinege it actually works best with shoes - is a little hard to use accurately with bare feet. Cowboy boots work especially well :)

@AntiPirateSquad This is not a toy. The FCB 1010 is a dinosaur compared to this. And the NanoPad is junk.

3, you can still overide using midi mapping.

@AntiPirateSquad SoftStep has a jack on the back for an expression pedal, which is fully configurable in the software.

hi
do you have some kind of presets for Ableton Live ? (choose control surface)
theau61 1 year ago
@theau61 yes, SoftStep ships with an example Live Set and a SoftStep scene.
