Two things you got wrong here. 1. Your dog hasn't done anything great, so "the weight of liking the dog" obviously doesn't mean anything beside the fact that you support Hitler.

Beck is WELL aware that this type of conjecture GETS viewers. He's appealing to the lowest common denominator: base fears and anger. The more outrageous and accusatory he becomes,the more popular he becomes. With the country's economy the way it is, fear and anger are BIG selling points these days.

A clearly facetious comment on Anita's part. It was practically dripping irony! Pretty certain Beck has Asperger Syndrome - he can't, or doesn't seem to, decipher sarcasm/irony (one of many symptoms) well.
Further, a person (Mao, Hitler, Stalin, Hussein, etc) can be incredibly evil and very intelligent at the same time. One's intelligence does not dictate one's actions! 9/11 is a great example - intelligence and ill will combine for a terrible enemy.

Mother Theresa was moved by the poor in their poverty. Mao used brute force to get the poor of his country elevated in wealth. The key to deciphering Dunn admiration of both is that the poor were the focus of both. Mao didn't like wealthy capitalists or political opponents and often killed to move his will forward. Perhaps to Dunn the ends justify the means to a desired end. The Gov will help the poor in all their needs... how this is done is the question. Will it be like Mother Teresa or Mao?

Beck is WELL aware that this type of conjecture GETS viewers. He's appealing to the lowest common denominator: base fears and anger. The more outrageous and accusatory he becomes,the more popular he becomes. With the country's economy the way it is, fear and anger are BIG selling points these days.

Fox may base a lot of it's ratings on it's evening opinion shows, if anyone watches just Fox news itself, like the noon stuff, it's actually pretty darn fair. I would say slightly right of center. They even did a story on Obama and his speech on helping small business.

Beck truncated it after "turns to most" to make it look like she admires Mao. Instead she actually just used Mao as an example to prove a point, as she explicitly said herself.
