  • Wow. Where was this done? I agree with the person who said that this is the best rendition of the song on YouTube, better than the Broadway version. Had me moved to tears. Where was this done and where are these great actresses today?

  • @Purecen1 This was performed in the 2008 Leonia SummerStage production. As far as I know, Cousin Nettie (who was one of my teachers) did another year of SummerStage. Julie was in this year's production of Bye Bye Birdie-which did not add up to this. Bad Albert Peterson.

  • This adds true feeling to the song. Bless you for uploading it.

  • I was in the production. I was just as puzzled, because when I saw the movie, I knew that Billie fell on his knife, but didn't really understand why. Thanks for clearing it up!

  • @leefamily432

    you're welcome! :)

  • @ScienceReasonBelief Thanks! You know, I actually got to play with the knife in that scene! It's surprising how real a plastic retractable blade looks!

  • superb!!!

  • That was brill! top dollar. well done.

  • I'm performing carousel in about a week!

  • Billy didn't kill himself?

wasn't he stabbed in a fight?

  • Billy stabs himself when he realizes he gets caught stealing.

  • @LDN92

In the original play, Billy commits suicide when he gets caught stealing, because he's so ashamed of what he's become and he can't face Julie. The "Hays Code" (google it) wouldn't allow suicide to be portrayed in a movie, so they changed it to Billy attempting to escape but accidentally falling on his knife.

    Hope that helps...

  • They're supposed to be ... The blonde lady (Julie) has just found that her husband Billy has killed himself.

  • @SaieJoshi

    well, they're supposed to be...

  • True dat.

  • Absolutely beautiful performance.

Too bad that vibrato didn't record better.

  • Honestly the best rendition of this song on Youtube. Simple and direct. Just how it should be.

  • @dsiglin This puts a lot of other versions I've seen to shame
