  • Sounds old. I guess they couldn't find someone with a higher pitch range at the time.

  • @SoyKing thats how they sing songs in the 80s in hk

  • if u search the 80s songs, most of the singers try to sound older, that was the style back then

  • Have you bunch of comment-clones not seen the English version or something? That girl sounded (and was) about 28 too. Fact is, it's hard to find 16-year-olds with professional-quality voices, in English or Canto. Stop whining about it.

  • the lyrics r cool :)

  • oh if the voices wouldn't be so different from one another...

  • I was in HK 2 months ago, but couldn't find it anywhere :(

  • tehe.....Ariel sounds 30, and Flounder sounds 4.

still beautiful, though! The Cantonese versions are always so pretty!

  • 25 ppl are finless mermaids

  • Thumbs down...!!! No offense, but the Cantonese version really sucks >.< (It is my 1st language though) She totally lacks energy in her singing!!! It sounds like she's 40 or something... =(

  • disney songs sounds better in canto :)

  • i am learning mandarin now but i like cantonese better cuz it sounds cooler^^

  • @vxy26 it's cool that a non-chinese thinks so (I'm assuming). Mandarin is high-pitched...and maybe more lyrical but I love Cantonese more. I think of Cantonese as more informal and fun, so that's why I like it...though it's harder because of the tones.

  • The Cantonese version of the Little Mermaid is surprisingly good!

  • i love her and i still rember this voice when i was a kid so yeah

  • the chinese little mermaid sounds looks better than the english one only because the ariels fish friend (sorry i dont know the name) sounds so cuteee

  • I don't see emotion in this version ¬¬

  • mandarin is much much better, they made her sound ...old in this version

  • i have this version xD

but i still like her english voice better

  • Omg how horrible, what they did to her beautiful voice!!! Horrible!! And funny too.

  • @guigui6915 Yeah, I agree with ya. The voice don't fit with Ariel.

  • this voice is too mature for ariel. still... very nice.

  • I love the cantonese and english version bettter :D

  • who sings this?

  • Very beautiful. Much better than my homeland version. That is Bulgarian of course. I don't like them because i think theyr childish. I like to listen to foreigner versions.

  • Comment removed

  • Wow...I think straight translation into Cantonese sounds a little awkward.....?

  • maybe because i heard the canto version first i always think this one is better than the original. nowadays canto translation sucks like fuck.

  • Sounds beautiful! 8D

  • who did her voice

  • She does have a beautiful voice

  • The old guy sounds like Ng Man Tat and Sebastian like Stephen Chow.

  • i know right they sound just like them too

  • she sounds a bit too old to be the "little" mermaid XD

    but still quite beautiful.

  • WOW!! THATS GREAT!!! THANK YOU FOER SHARING!!CAN u PROVIDE DOWNLOAD LINK??

  • Why is so soft? And she sounds a bit older, but still beautiful. (I'm just used to a loud singer, this is like a lullaby or something. :D)

  • if you're not gonna dub them, how are little kids who don't speak english supposed to understand?

    :(

  • 腳`x)

    好好笑..仲有''我有二十件''同埋''佢叫咩話''

    真係好笑=D但幾好聽

  • @emii0325 hahahahaha yes yes it is very funny

  • i love flounders voice its so adorable!!

  • i totally agree with everyone

  • beast**

  • her talking voice [not her singing voice] is the same voice that did cantonese belle in beauty and the best

  • Its so anoyying I cant find where to Buy the Canto Version anywhere......

  • @Godservant4earth I want to buy the Cantonese version too. Does anyone know how we can get it in Cantonese? I would be so grateful! :)

  • @Vanereall - china town

  • @dragnmagic Okay, I hope you're not just saying that because it's Chinatown. I'm going to look for it there and if I can't find it, I'll hold it against you. :P

  • @Vanereall

um, well i have it from a while back. you can get it in HK, since one of my relatives got it for me from there :)

  • @SugaDollGal I figured HK would have it....too bad I've never been there & idk anyone who is going..Searching in Chinatown will have to do for now..

  • @Vanereall lol OK , good luck finding it :)

  • @Vanereall you can also try looking at yesasia i haven't looked myself but i'm sure you'll be able to find it there.

  • lolz don't u just want to eat flounder xDD he's so cute..

  • yes, with soy sauce.

  • Like so many others have said: the voice is too old for her. Hey, she sounds like my grandma!

Well, this version is still good though. I think all versions are beautiful in their own way... :)

  • flounders voice is so cute <3

  • LOL, the prince is is head-over-heels in love with her about her voice.

I really love the Cantonese version; it's more familiar to me, even though I don't understand much. I probably know Mandarin better, but I forgot my Cantonese and I'm trying to pick it back up.

  • Me too, except I don't understand Mandarin fully I just know it cause of movies xD

  • truly,i do agree that this voice is kinda too old for ariel,as she's only 16...

but generally when comes to cantonese songs, they are in these type of voices & tones...

it does sound nice & beautiful in it's own way...

    i love it,too... ;)

thus, usually when speaking in cantonese, some words & some phrases are occasionally not same as chinese's...(especially while translating...)

different languages have their different forms of speaking & writting...

cantonese is my favourite dialect... (:

  • hmm i'm not saying this song is bad but the words they use in the song seem to be really *big*? for kids if you know chinese or if you get it translated. And it doesn't exactly fit ariel's character but it was still kinda good in a way.

  • Very beautiful voice and an overall beautiful version of the song, but...

... not Ariel at all. :/

  • i'd like it better if her voice was younger or if ariel was older xD

but i do like flounder's voice. it's adorable!

  • I know a lot of people really do not like this version in Cantonese but...*be brave*... I LIKE THIS CANTONESE VERSION REALLY MUCH! Ha! Yay! I said it! *applause*

  • her voice is too old

  • It's calmer than the English one.

  • wow this is my first time hearing this song in cantonese... well i did hear it in cantonese before but its different...

  • lmao watching this in canto is awesome!

  • Well, one thing I don't like is that the speaking voice and the singing voice is totally different :P

  • I like this... :)

  • WOAH WOAH WOAH ! a voice like dat for a 16 yr old? BUT I LIKE IT! :D

  • I think her voice is too old ._.

    But I love the song ~ ♪

  • I think it's just how the language sounds. I've had friends that speak Cantonese and they sound older too. also if you grow up speaking that language you can probably tell the difference between older and younger voices more easily.

  • She said something like 'sekai' which is 'world' in Japanese... My father speaks Cantonese. It's much harder than Mandarin, be glad it still sounds so beautiful.

  • sekai is japanese for world and sai-gaai is world in cantonese. some words are really similar.. like in japanese, kantan is simple. and in cantonese, it's gan-daan.

  • The singer is Cally Kwong.

  • this was my first disney film I ever watched (in cantonese) brings back memories~

  • it's so beautiful! and i understand it too!! :)

  • i know the lyrics because i have kh :)

  • loved it!

  • Flounder sounds cute and ariel is great

  • What's with the asian comment?

The original little mermaid story was in Danish so if you're going to complain, start with English.

  • @AAMLfan The Chinese comment wasn't a compliant...she just translated/rewrote the song's lyric out in chinese.

  • It kinda matches her..hehe, i like listenin or seeign wat songs soudn liek from wat the original language its in. its kidna funny (in soemsort of an un-offensive way..if anyoen is offended)

  • I can speak cantonese:-)

  • Who has Ariel's speaking voice in Cantonese?

  • The voice for The Little Mermaid Returns has a better voice for Ariel. It matches her waaay better!! It's almost exactly alike xD

  • um, the voice doesn't even match her!

  • This version of the song is great when you have trouble getting to sleep at night :)

  • Her voice is beautiful, but too old for Ariel (she is 16, not 30!). 4 stars.

  • Is there a different woman who sings than the woman who speaks? Sounded like that :P But it doesn't matter, really..xP

  • Agreed!

  • I definately like Cantonese -the language itself- better than Mandarin.

  • Comment to Megadoodle-

    hey I speak Cantonese!

  • @Megadoodle Same here!

  • who sing?..sound like Yumiko's voice

  • omg ur right does sound like her haha

  • this is totaly random

    but my name is yumiko

  • she was a kid perhaps not even born when this came out!

  • I love her voice, imo. I doesn't matter if the voices are different. I think it matters if they can deliver the magic that Disney provides. And i'm sure the singer and the actress did...beautifully.

  • :o i have this in VHS!!! XD

  • LMAO!!!

  • Okay, this is way better. I'm fluent in Cantonese too and I totally understand this versus the pathetic Mandarin version made of Under the Sea where it was very difficult to understand. The only thing is this chick's singing voice is too husky to be Ariel's.

  • Same here xyzizzle

  • Husky is a good word. I think both Mandarin and Cantonese versions cast good pop voices -- but if they cast a broadway voice, it would sound more like the English version.

  • I didn't think they sounded too different. Love her singing. It's beautiful by our standards.

  • Ariels voice is a little too deep in my opinion. She has a beautiful singing voice though.

  • But not the slavic versions

  • What?

  • sounds ok

  • love the canto version! :D

  • Who sang this?

  • i think singing voice and talking voice are soooo different and that loses magic

  • aren't they the same actress?

  • dont know.. but in the most countries they used different voices for sing and talk... the only one I could say that is te same voice is the original one with Jodi Benson

  • I believe in brasil it was the same person... =P sounds close enough anyways. ^_^

  • dont know.. but in the most countries they used different voices for sing and talk... the only one I could say that is te same voice is the original one with Jodi Benson

  • the translation is very loyal to the original eng version..who did it actually?

  • great memories of being a kid!!!!

  • ahhh. Memories!! :]

  • How wonderful it is. They are amazing No other people have these. No one can compare with me. Am I the girl who owns everything? The treasures are uncountable The cave is full of gems When you see these, you will think she got everything I have a lot of lovely things even I don't know what they are Do you want something rare? I got twenty However, I don't treasure them All I want is go to human world I want to see the thing only human have They used them to dance, run and stand. Feet~
  • With the fin, I can't go too far. You can stand, walk, jump and run only by feet.

To go to those... those... What they called? Street~

Walk by feet. Run by feet. Spend the whole day under the sun.

I just hope I can go to the human world.

I am willing to give out my treasures. If I can have a choice, just want to jump out from water.

I am willing to give out my jewels. I beg you to let me lay on the warm sands

  • I truly believed that human is better than mermaid. Father will not punish daughter in that world.

Your bright daughter is tired for playing with water, she wants to stand up.

I want to know all they know. I hope to find the answers of my questions.

The thing which called 'fire' is too beautiful. It can burn!

I am always asking when I can go to the coast.

Leave the blue sea away. I desired to go to the human world.

  • omg . my grandma showed me this when i was a little girl :)

  • If anyone likes this video, we could upload the cantonese version of this movie. Check out our page to see why and how. And I remembered the whole song it's amazing. I keep changing the language while this playing and it was hilarious! I could upload us changing the lannguage while playing the song too.

  • Sure, I'd love to see that! It's funny, I grew up watching this movie and singing this song all the time. It's so interesting and such a treat to hear it and watch it in Cantonese! I've just never associated Disney movies with being in Cantonese.

  • This is so awesome! :D Love her voice!<3

  • Interesting that you like this but don't like Finnish one though... I love this version too but I love Finnish one more.

  • Um. Sushi is a Japanese food. This song is Cantonese, which is a dialect of China, hence it has nothing to do with Sushi. You are being ignorantly (and slightly) racist.

  • See this is where humour is lost on some people. They'd rather focus on the negative or 'the facts' then just conceed that they don't find it funny.

Also say what you will but i KNOW that i am NOT a racist!

  • i'm chinese... and in the thousands of year did chinese ppl 'create' sushi

we like our fish cooked noob

  • Just wanted to edit that ;D

I am proud to be Japanese and Chinese. I am open minded and free. I shall wave the the two flags.

And for the Korean ppl, I luv you guys too (cause i also have cousins who are part Korean!). Is waving korean flag too!

  • The reason for preserving was that there were no refridgerators thousands of years ago.

  • ima agre with u and stick up 4 chinese, considerin i am 1 =p

  • Oh thank you ^^

  • XD yw

  • yeah,i agree the voice is too mature for a sixteen- year old.sounds in her um 30's or 40's?

  • yeah but it wouldnt sound good from a child. but your right

  • To me she sound more in her early 20s.

  • Regardless of her age, this is still my favourite version :D

  • The Cantonese version sounds much too mature for a sixteen year-old. It's a very pretty version, indeed, but it probably would have been better if the singer didn't sound so mature.

  • I don't think so! It's only good that everyone isn't Jodi Benson copies...

  • Cally Kwong has made this character her own. I watched both English and Cantonese versions and I have to admit that they are very different now.

Cally recreated the character to make it sexier and prettier comparing to that in the original version which is much more girly.

Personally I like this Cantonese version more than the English one.

  • This is so beautiful! I like Cantonese, Finnish 1989, French 1989 and Brazilian 1998 Ariels because they have mature voices and they all are very talented singer and in my opinion Ariel needs to have powerful voice! I don't like girly voices like Jodi Benson, the original!

  • Very mature behaviour... very!

  • omg it's disney anime.

  • anime is from Japan not China

  • I know it is. I was joking.

  • love love<3 it sounds so pretty - even though i only understand a little. Cantonnese is just a very beautiful sounding languague!

  • It's not a language. :D It's a dialect of Chinese.

  • Well, if you're going to be picky about it. Then it is a very lovely sounding sound!

  • and besides chinese is just a compilation of dialects, rite?

  • Yes. It's just a general term for chinese dialects. If you narrow it down, there will be like 100+ languages. At least that's what my chinese teacher said...
