hey jon, question - the symbol drawn on your arm, do you know if it has a certain meaning? ive been wanting to get a spiral tattoo and i dig the arrows. thanks!
To all those who criticize. " now your turn" ain't a fuckin person here, including myself, who can even begin to touch this. Brilliance is stating the understated
Solo was cool, but more impressed with your taste and the commercial hummability(?) of your songs. I think Passionflower is easily radio material and all props to you Jon. thanks for the inspiration.
@tomlandersUK He's based in England! Although maybe your confusion is based on links to Andy McKee, of Texas. But trust me, I saw him in Leeds the Saturday before last and am just compiling myself a short list of requests from his ouvre to shout up at the gig he's doing in Huddersfield tonight. And yres, he can hack it live...
Jon is a pure G. Some beautiful pieces. He is awesome live and a very sound guy!! Something to aspire to for all musicians. He started off as a metal guitarist but then progressed on to this shit. Can you imagine metal inspired by this?? WANT!!! :-P
I believe as a musician Jon gomm is much more talented, he knows his instrument inside out and does much more than Andy. However if you asked me who i wanted to see or hear, it'd be andy, because though jons talented i feel he misses a certain atmosphere and feel that music really needs.
@invertedchords I've already explained who i'm going for, i don't like listen to either regularly, if i was to choose for someone with this kind of style i'd pick erik mongrain anyday
His compositions are beautiful and pretty reach on complexity. Tuning while playing is also good)) Jon you´re great musician! Thank you for your work!
I imagine the padding on back is to protect him from impacts on body and also to protect guitar as well. Although it could also be to prop the guitar at a certain level that makes it more comfortable for the percussion effects.
hes fukin awesum, he came to our school and plyed a gig sorta thing and im gettin guitar lessons off him now XD, and were doin a show for this big thing in garforth XD, yeah hes aweshum. he played to for uss XD
besides how can you not remember who i am hahah he looked at me and said i was doin the melody part he said 'your gonna love it' then i loled and he said 'i'v got a beard and i can do it' XD
that has to be one of the best metal solos i have ever heard... on a fucking acoustic!!!! apparantly this nagger started off playing metal n the like n then progressed to this. i met him last year, hes marrying one of my mates sisters, v chilled n quite a humble guy. he deserves everything good thts gonna happen to him
i've seen him at the brewer several times and at a few festivals aswell, are you a local in the brewer??? me and the missus drink there all the time!!! we are "Brewer Crew"!!
No, i've spoken with a guy who's done sound for him. Apparently the thing strapped onto the back is actually a mic or two and there is a hole cut into the back of the guitar. which explains why his tapping is able to be so clear. Seen him play a few times, gets better everytime.
Ive met Jon Gomm, he did a guitar workshop in Barnsley College and the thing on the back of his guitar is a sponge wrapped in duck tape. All it does is keep the guitar slightly away from his body
You know, jagspelargitarr, this does sound alarmingly like Initiation. I, like a lot of students in Leeds, thought Gomm was ground-breaking until I saw a Tommy Emmanuel concert.
I have just watched the Tommy Emmanuel's "Initiation" video, two versions in fact and can't see a comparison with Jon Gomm other than the effects and the use of a un varnished scratch section on the guitars body. Hey Child is clearly a more constructed track with more varied styles. As a musician and not a student, I feel you should listen more carefully and appreciate individuals work and not try to compare. Its simple respect.
Honestly this comment is fine! I gave it a thumbs up! I love Tommy, he's one of my heroes. I don't think this song is a "rip-off", in fact I've played it in front of Tommy (in a church in Italy, strangely), and I consider any comparison with him a huge compliment.
It's not a classical guitar, its a steel string guitar, the padding is there so, like sthelensmusic said not to pickup extra noise, and after playing a about an hour your hips bruise, especially with the aggression he plays with.
hey jon this vid is awesome, seen you at the blus bar a couple of times and your shows (and humour) are second to none, keep up the good work Phil Scarborough

is the thing strapped to the body not to rest on his leg so he can se the fretboard?
azzemojo 5 years ago
Great Video! What is that strapped on the back of the guitar body?? Either a dynamite stick or a HUGE HUGE HUGE roll-up.
Shaka04 5 years ago
i think its probably some sort of pick up as his only using a classical guitar and hes got delay and distortion on
solofreak885 5 years ago
it's padding. he's got several pickups in the guitar and loads of effects, so doesn't want to pick up any extraneous noise.
