  • Genius quite possible!!!!!!

  • bah! its nice.. but if you want to see genius.. Erik Mongrain!

  • @talentedMrRead i want to see all geniuses :D

  • Gomm damnit!!! That was so awesome!!!

  • hey jon, question - the symbol drawn on your arm, do you know if it has a certain meaning? ive been wanting to get a spiral tattoo and i dig the arrows. thanks!

    great music btw, mindblowing!

  • @myheartsvagina It's Michael Hedges' (another great guitarist, now sadly passed away) Oracle symbol

  • Freakin' awesome

  • i dont know if i should stop playing or play more...

    pretty fucking good man. awesome.

you should get into the northeast music festival seen.. we'd love you!

    keep it up man

  • To all those who criticize. " now your turn" ain't a fuckin person here, including myself, who can even begin to touch this. Brilliance is stating the understated

  • Solo was cool, but more impressed with your taste and the commercial hummability(?) of your songs. I think Passionflower is easily radio material and all props to you Jon. thanks for the inspiration.

  • He is amazing (De puta madre!) ;)

  • ok, so i know that he's using a Dmin7 as the first chord, but what the hell is the second chord? its a G# major something i know that much.

  • @oviefofah probably open tuned to maybe open D minor or some kind of open minor tuning.

  • This is pure talent..... amazing... :)

  • the only thing i dislike about this video is the camera panning away from his fingers

  • Nice Michael Hedges tatoo! What is it that you have on the back of the guitar? To make a good drumsound? Great Song!

  • @Smirrdahwg It's to keep his guitar a certain distance from his legs

  • Thanks for going all kurt cobain on mah brains. i needed thath

  • the man is the Don... always loved his work, seen him n his Mrs many a time in Leeds... outstanding...

  • WHAT A BEAST

    COME TO ENGLAND PLEASE

  • @tomlandersUK He's based in England! Although maybe your confusion is based on links to Andy McKee, of Texas. But trust me, I saw him in Leeds the Saturday before last and am just compiling myself a short list of requests from his ouvre to shout up at the gig he's doing in Huddersfield tonight. And yres, he can hack it live...

  • Jon is a pure G. Some beautiful pieces. He is awesome live and a very sound guy!! Something to aspire to for all musicians. He started off as a metal guitarist but then progressed on to this shit. Can you imagine metal inspired by this?? WANT!!! :-P

  • this guy or andy mckee :/ im torn :P

  • @FrozenTape why either or?

  • @FrozenTape nick harper?

  • @FrozenTape

I believe as a musician Jon gomm is much more talented, he knows his instrument inside out and does much more than Andy. However if you asked me who i wanted to see or hear, it'd be andy, because though jons talented i feel he misses a certain atmosphere and feel that music really needs.

  • see him live he's not missing an atmosphere

  • @invertedchords

I have before, just not my kind of thing

  • His compositions are beautiful and pretty reach on complexity. Tuning while playing is also good)) Jon you´re great musician! Thank you for your work!

  • My mate has just booked John to play at his house !! WOW

  • Glorious re invention :)

  • Is this sync'd to the album recording?

I imagine the padding on back is to protect him from impacts on body and also to protect guitar as well. Although it could also be to prop the guitar at a certain level that makes it more comfortable for the percussion effects.

  • louth 09 21~23 go see ...............x

  • No it's not, but this did remind me of Initiation.

  • Saw him at the Brewer last night. Incredible.

  • i'm going to see him tonight

  • I'm fan :)

  • I saw him in Lincoln, Jolly Brewer.. 'The Drug Place' Lol. He was amazing i could not beleive it.. he shocked me haha

  • i've seen him at the brewer several times and at a few festivals aswell, are you a local in the brewer??? me and the missus drink there all the time!!! we are "Brewer Crew"!!

  • Haha Not Really a local, But yeah been there a few times. Hah Ther Brewer Crew.. Mint! xx

  • Haha i saw this guy at a shitty pub in leeds years ago, Carpe Diem.

Never herd of him before an when he started playing the whole pub stopped and watched...It was amazing!

    Legend!!!

  • he went to my lil brothers music college when he went, Nexus is the college he went to...he said he was amazeing live.

i almost beat him to death for not telling me about it lol.

    absolutely love this song...

  • No, i've spoken with a guy who's done sound for him. Apparently the thing strapped onto the back is actually a mic or two and there is a hole cut into the back of the guitar. which explains why his tapping is able to be so clear. Seen him play a few times, gets better everytime.

  • Ive met Jon Gomm, he did a guitar workshop in Barnsley College and the thing on the back of his guitar is a sponge wrapped in duck tape. All it does is keep the guitar slightly away from his body

  • @slhales I put a sponge on the back of my guitar to see if it would give me skills like him... No comment.

  • no it isn't it's a bit of foam wrapped in gaffa tape to protect his hipp.

  • I think its only somthing who place the guitar at the certain angle.

  • wow!! this guy is amazing! what's that thing on the back of the guitar?

  • Really cool video and a great song.

  • that is amazing i would love to see you again live because last night was fantastic NICE ONE !!!!

    10/10

  • much much much better live

  • ;-)

  • I love the solo :)

    its really cool ;)

  • credit is given where credit is due to the person who recorded and edited it, chris holland from zool films myspace com/zoolfilms

  • Erik Mongrain can exceed this guy when it comes to guitar skill, however Jon is a fine singer.

  • A great guitarist. Seen him at the Mixing Tin, Blues Bar and The New Roscoe.

Hope he's bringing out a new album soon.

  • You know, jagspelargitarr, this does sound alarmingly like Initiation. I, like a lot of students in Leeds, thought Gomm was ground-breaking until I saw a Tommy Emmanuel concert.

  • I have just watched the Tommy Emmanuel's "Initiation" video, two versions in fact and can't see a comparison with Jon Gomm other than the effects and the use of a un varnished scratch section on the guitars body. Hey Child is clearly a more constructed track with more varied styles. As a musician and not a student, I feel you should listen more carefully and appreciate individuals work and not try to compare. Its simple respect.

  • Honestly this comment is fine! I gave it a thumbs up! I love Tommy, he's one of my heroes. I don't think this song is a "rip-off", in fact I've played it in front of Tommy (in a church in Italy, strangely), and I consider any comparison with him a huge compliment.

  • dont you think that it sounds a bit to much like tommy emmanuels initiation? :)

    great song :).. really great

  • It's not a classical guitar, its a steel string guitar, the padding is there so, like sthelensmusic said not to pickup extra noise, and after playing a about an hour your hips bruise, especially with the aggression he plays with.

  • is the thing strapped to the body not to rest on his leg so he can se the fretboard?

  • Great Video! What is that strapped on the back of the guitar body?? Either a dynamite stick or a HUGE HUGE HUGE roll-up.

  • i think its probably some sort of pick up as his only using a classical guitar and hes got delay and distortion on

  • it's padding. he's got several pickups in the guitar and loads of effects, so doesn't want to pick up any extraneous noise.

  • Excellent !!

  • hey jon this vid is awesome, seen you at the blus bar a couple of times and your shows (and humour) are second to none, keep up the good work Phil Scarborough

  • wtf? distortion on a classical guitar? :S now i deff cant wait to see this guy
