It's so fitting that Oliver Stone gets the Oscar handed to him by his former university mentor. It must have been an interesting moment for the both of them.
I don't begrudge the four directors who've beat him over the years: Sydney Pollack, Oliver Stone, Steven Spielberg, Peter Jackson. All right, maybe Jackson, since I hate the fact Master and Commander had to come out the year the Academy realized it better honor Lord of the Rings already. But, seriously, fine filmmakers all. But I do hope Peter Weir, my personal favorite director, wins an Oscar in the near future.
Why does DeNiro remind me of Rain Man in this clip? Marty, on the other hand, was probably at his most handsome here. Ron Kovic looked pretty spiffy too!
Kind of a strange field (strange year, really); a bit bleh...Stone certainly made a powerful movie, as rich and technically brilliant as it was unsubtle, so I guess he deserved it, but Jim Sheridan makes me want to root for the underdog!
I loved Dead Poets as a sensitive teenager...Not seen Henry yet. Woody's film is brilliant but depressing.
Asking Scorsese to present an Oscar to Oliver Stone is a serious insult.

He thoroughly deserved it for Platoon, but Peter Weir was totally fucked over here.

@MrATMMachineSA I know. Not necessarily the best year for film.

Would have preferred Jim Sheridan to win. My Left Foot should have won Best Picture as well.
