the 50 state strategy is silly. there are some states/congressional districts that democrats can't win. oh, and the democrats lost big in the 2010 election. obama might not even win a 2nd term.

Obama ran the most expensive presidential run in American history funded by the special interest and you think he's gonna do something about corporate abuses now that he's elected? He owes Them his seat in power because without them he wouldn't have been elected.
Howard Dean is a god! he'll likly never be president cuz he is a bit too extreme for the indepedents with his views, which maybe rather socalist in nature (and thats a good thing), but he is a great man and a great leader of the party.
And the ones that are not loony are like Collin Powell, too loyal to talk. Only Ron Paul dares to say a word against the partyline and he is treated like a pariah.
yeah Ron Paul is the only republican I really have any respect for right now. Not quite sure if I would have voted for him but he's not full of BS! If your cutting taxes then you must stop wasteful spending and borrowing. As huge as the national debt is (10 trillion omg!) I'm not sure if cutting taxes is even a possibility. Trickle down economics is total BS imho, when has it ever shown to work? The American dallor aint worth the paper its printed on
Oh, the dollar is still worth something. But if you wait a few months it might actually be but fancy toilet paper.
Now that I think about it I don't know if Ron Paul would have what it takes to fix the mess. He seems too hands-off to be able to do it. Of course, maybe letting finantial institutions, banks and GM crash and burn is a good thing.
which is pretty funny considering ron paul actually stands for what the republican party USED to be about before it was taken over by evangelical christians
Bush senior was an OK president and he was Republican. The economy took a dive but it recovered so fast during the first Clinton term that you could say it was thanks to Bush. How can a party go THAT wrong? Millenium fears? Bush's fanatical arrogance and Cheney's greed and their belief that Clinton's budget surplus would last forever? Bush senior was ten times the president junior was. He even ended the Gulf War at a profit! He got the Saudis, the Kuwaitis and the Japanese to pay for it!!
i can agree with that. bush senior had integrity and was an honorable person imho. i think bush jr. was held hostage by the iraq war for one thing. he couldnt afford to veto one bill or risk losing republican support for the war. i do think bush jr was dealt some very bad cards, but he played them very badly as well :)
You are being too kind to Bush Jr. Notice his lack of humility and inability to acknowledge mistakes. Playing his cards badly doesn't cover half of what he did. If you will look at Republicans speak in programs like Bill Maher's you will see them psichoticly unable to accept responsability for anything that has gone wrong. Bush is their example to follow. What I see is a bizarre religious twist to their minds that seems to have convinced them that whatever they do is right. Scary.
you are absolutely correct. their religiousity gives them their certitude. they will go to their graves absolutely believing that everything they did was correct and that this entity, God, was on their side in everything they did and do. i actually envy their certitude about everything. obviously, the reasonable mind is incapable of such certitude. and yes, they are quite insane. and yes, the fact that they are is very scary...
If I had been so stupid as to go into Iraq expecting to be greeted as a liberator and it turned up to be such a mess I would have panicked. And then I would have flooded Iraq with troops and workers to do the job right.
I wouldn't have said "mission accomplished. We won". I would have tried to fix it and then I would have been so ashamed that I wouldn't have run for reelection. I would have said I was sick or something.
yes, you would have to have been quite stupid to go in the first place :). the other scary thing about these people is that they believe in armegeddon (the end of times). when you believe that, you really don't worry too much about long-term planning/solutions, which is exactly what we need to worry about. they do believe the end is coming soon and that it will start in the middle east (the global conflict to end all and bring Jesus back to the earth that is)
Which is why they are so nice to the Jews. They need them in Jerusalem so 144,000 can convert(I think that was the number). Of course, all the rest will perish with the heathen and unbelievers and homos and Democrats.
correct and hence, at least partly, if not mostly, our policy towards israel (and yes, the fact that some of our forien policy is dictated by stone-age religious beliefs is VERY scary). we have paid dearly for our support of israel. not only perish, but be sent to burn in everlesting hell-fire (tortured for all eternity basically). this is scary stuff...
Dean's abortion comment was false and when called on it the DNC would not respond.
You should go to Factcheck org "Biography of a Bad Statistic" Guttmacher Institute: In 2005, 1.21 million abortions were performed, down from 1.31 million abortions in 2000.
Cenk, I usually agree with you but you are WAY off on this one. The Repubs are NEVER going to admit they're wrong. Instead,if God willing Obama wins,be ready for four of the most drag out dirty fighting you have ever seen. They will try to nail Obama on EVERYTHING.
This is why its CRUCIAL for those of us with an ounce of logic have to realize the struggle will not be over on NOV 4th. We have to stay active and push Obama for the change we need and not give reasons for the Repubs to cry foul.
"He selected a none-too-bright woman, spent 150K getting her dressed, roughly 23K for a couple weeks worth of makeup, 10K on a couple of weeks worth of presentable hair"
You forgot to add, "and then he expected us to trust him with the federal budget to boot!"
I wished Howard Dean had been the candidate for 2004, but G-d always has a plan. He has done an even more powerful job of organizing the Democratic party as its chairman. Howard Dean is the man!
This is my opinion straight up.If Obama and Biden made it this far I doubt a loss tommorow for them and the democrats. They will win after eight years off the radar.McCain thought he could pick Palin to make her equipped to Hilliary- hell no.His whole strategy was about that, but some knew that all the time.

50 State Strategy? R U nuts??? Whatever happened to South Carolina, Georgia, Mississipi, Alabama, Tennessee, Arkensas, Louisiana, Texas, North Dakota, South Dakota, Kansas, Oklahoma, Arizona, Montana...
The Democrats AREN'T competative in any of those states. Perhaps there's a 38 state strategy but not a 50 state one even if you include Puerto Rico, US Virgin Islands, US Samoa and the CANADIAN PROVINCES.
Ever since Michael Dukakis, the Democrats have done well with the egg-heads and African-Americans. It was Bill Clinton (and possibly Jimmy Carter) who brought in the kind of Dems in Arkansas. Southern Democrats, who share the populism of the Dems but also a the racial tensions of being a state in the Deep South.
I like Dean am referring to the Electoral College vote for president, not congressional or statewide races. Right now CNN has McCain up 7% in Arkansas, thats significantly over the 3% margain of error. McCain will carry Arkansas Clintons notwithstanding.
Check the math.. is McCain by nearly 10 points in Arkansas. I mean outside of the Clinton years when last did Arkansas vote for a Democratic preisdential candidate?
Well then you didn't have a point in this discussion. Howard Dean said that the Dems will compete for every Electoral College state. I said "No", there are states that are out of reach for the Democratic and Republican presidential candidates respectively.
You then start talking all this state-level and congressional district mess.
Vegtam1 your points are irrelevant to that which me and Dean were making.
I understand your point, which is why I said that beforehand. However your patronizing tone is pretty annoying.
My point is that at this point the reality that things are changing is unquantifiable - for now. As a citizen of a southern state I can attest to this.
Lastly, you obviously don't know what the 50 state strategy was.
Another thing, I like how you looked at my videos, decided I was black and then decided to end with "Wuzzup wit dat homie????" Nice racist undertones moron.
Nah "Veggie" I'm playin' soulfully ... no racial elements of a negative nature are intended.
Besides black pop culture is pretty much everybody's domain today. Look at the number of TV ads that feature unassuming white rapping or saying things like "bling."
Obama will win, and he'll even take a few Red States with him, it'll be a big win but not a 50 state strategy. I mean Obama never campaigned in the deep south just like McCain never campaiged in New England.
The days of Reagan-like 50 state sweeps are over as America is politcally and more importantly socially and culturally divided.
We're almost as we were in the 1850s. Lets hope we don't repeat history!
Oh, I'd definitely not be so sure what's going to happen in Georgia tommorrow. IF McCain wins Georgia, it won't be by as much as many think he will and there's a good chance a Dem will pick up a Senate seat.

Howard Dean is right? Yeah Right! Howard is very wrong! He is Palin's DICKLESS and BALLESS BITCH and PUSSY! Palin will unleash the POWER OF GOD HERSELF and reveal to the whole world that SHE has the COMPLETE PACKAGE and Dean has only a PUSSY!
WTF have you been smoking man, because this is some crazy nonsense! What are you saying that Palin has a package or something completely different, I can't tell because you are not making any sense!
No they haven't what are you talking about... show some proof. Also, you point out that Dean made that statment on the 22nd of May 2005, from when Bush took office untill that point abortions could have gone up. They could have gone down since then (which I highly doubt) however at the time in which he made that comment he was right.
Howard Dean is a brilliant strategist. I've always thought that his ideas would reveal the depth of his true political knowledge. The Democrats have a great candidate in Obama, and that is why it's finally resonating.
There shuold be at least some sort of place for Howard Dean in the History books, he has earned it even when people thought he would be wrong he proved himself right and totally aided the Democratic Party in the process.
I have a friend who was a far right nutbag a few years ago and would argue with me on everything. Now he treats me like an oracle, lol. I used to get crazy looks when I said Bush was driving us into a major financial crisis etc etc. Now I am a God among the handful of people who had to listen to me all of these years. :) And I lord my power over them too.
Id rather live my life believing there is a God and die and find out that there isnt one.. than live my life not believing in one.., dying and finding out there was one...
But living your life carefully just in case there is a God isn't any fun. If you're wrong you'd have a sucky life and then your worm food. I'd prefer to live my life how I want because I know all we have is this life on Earth and no eternal consequences after that!
To Takencxp: If he was any kind of god at all, he would see right through such a simple strategy. Look up Pascal's Wager. That's the philosophy you're embracing.
QUOTE: "Howard Dean unfairly and illegally stole the Presidential election this year, by being VERY persistent and impolite to Sean Hannity and Chris Wallace, by setting up the Democratic Party in every state with these sharp whippersnappers, and by convincing so many people to go to the polls and vote for Obama! He should be ashamed. Now get off my lawn you punk kids."

No No No..... I really dont think. Lets just say if the UK bookies are wrong on the odds; McCain 10-1, Obama 1-20; it will be a neighsay and a half for U goddam neighsayers.
U naysay my neighsay yet I say nay, neigh away with Ur pointers like a pack donkey on the path of pomposity. I can bloody well write neighsay if it sounds right. U can bloody well eat Ur naysay. Today is a day to be a yaysayer.
The beauty about Obama is the fact that he employs the best people in his campaign, and willing to LISTEN to different ideas.
Obama's campaign so far has been near flawless. It didn't happen by accident. Smart man, got the right people, formulated the best idea based on everyone's input, and executed to near perfection.
Doesn't that sound alot like what it takes to be the President?
Even the folks that at FOX that (Bill OReilly) interviewed Obama was impressed by his ability.
Scott S: I have lived in Columbus, OH (cont) I have always been a proud American and I will always be a proud American but I have never felt pride as HUMAN BEING like I did today. I have never felt closer to my fellow brothers and sisters after this experience. I want to continue to feel that way for the next 8 years. Please vote OBAMA/BIDEN for all our sakes. THANK YOU.
Gore/Dean 2016 or 2012 if, God forbid, Obama loses or something happens to him. Or Dean/Sibelius.
Cenk, I think the 50 state strategy pretty much worked because Obama raised so much money, he wanted to press his advantage and make McCain compete everywhere, stretching his resources thin. Brilliant tactic--if he's elected I hope he'll be just as brilliant in office. Other than that, brilliant points, Cenk. The left has been right on EVERYTHING (except the surge) since 2001, where's our credit?
Uh, no, we were right about the surge as well. The reduction in violence started with diplomacy and reaching out to the Sunnis - not with the Splurge.
However, the whole purpose of the surge was to provide stability so a real coalition government could be formed, and that hasn't happened. The surge has FAILED at it's goal, not succeeded.
This young Turk guy is a total fag! Shut the fuck up you fat wop and go back to your terrorist country.

Howard Dean is a god! he'll likly never be president cuz he is a bit too extreme for the indepedents with his views, which maybe rather socalist in nature (and thats a good thing), but he is a great man and a great leader of the party.
KangaKucha 3 years ago
there are silly liberals but there are alot more loony right-wingers
melowar78 3 years ago 3
And the ones that are not loony are like Collin Powell, too loyal to talk. Only Ron Paul dares to say a word against the partyline and he is treated like a pariah.
xhagast 3 years ago
yeah Ron Paul is the only republican I really have any respect for right now. The American dallor aint worth the paper its printed on
melowar78 3 years ago
Oh, the dollar is still worth something. But if you wait a few months it might actually be but fancy toilet paper.
Now that I think about it I don't know if Ron Paul would have what it takes to fix the mess. He seems too hands-off to be able to do it. Of course, maybe letting finantial institutions, banks and GM crash and burn is a good thing.
xhagast 3 years ago
which is pretty funny considering ron paul actually stands for what the republican party USED to be about before it was taken over by evangelical christians

He got the Saudis, the Kuwaitis and the Japanese to pay for it!!
xhagast 3 years ago
i can agree with that. bush senior had integrity and was an honorable person imho. i think bush jr. was held hostage by the iraq war for one thing. he couldnt afford to veto one bill or risk losing republican support for the war. i do think bush jr was dealt some very bad cards, but he played them very badly as well :)
isaachaze1 3 years ago
You are being too kind to Bush Jr. Notice his lack of humility and inability to acknowledge mistakes. Playing his cards badly doesn't cover half of what he did. If you will look at Republicans speak in programs like Bill Maher's you will see them psichoticly unable to accept responsability for anything that has gone wrong. Bush is their example to follow. What I see is a bizarre religious twist to their minds that seems to have convinced them that whatever they do is right. Scary.
xhagast 3 years ago
you are absolutely correct. their religiousity gives them their certitude. they will go to their graves absolutely believing that everything they did was correct and that this entity, God, was on their side in everything they did and do. i actually envy their certitude about everything. obviously, the reasonable mind is incapable of such certitude. and yes, they are quite insane. and yes, the fact that they are is very scary...
isaachaze1 3 years ago
If I had been so stupid as to go into Iraq expecting to be greeted as a liberator and it turned up to be such a mess I would have panicked. And then I would have flooded Iraq with troops and workers to do the job right.
I wouldn't have said "mission accomplished. We won". I would have tried to fix it and then I would have been so ashamed that I wouldn't have run for reelection. I would have said I was sick or something.
xhagast 3 years ago
yes, you would have to have been quite stupid to go in the first place :). the other scary thing about these people is that they believe in armegeddon (the end of times). when you believe that, you really don't worry too much about long-term planning/solutions, which is exactly what we need to worry about. they do believe the end is coming soon and that it will start in the middle east (the global conflict to end all and bring Jesus back to the earth that is)
isaachaze1 3 years ago
Which is why they are so nice to the Jews. They need them in Jerusalem so 144,000 can convert(I think that was the number). Of course, all the rest will perish with the heathen and unbelievers and homos and Democrats.
xhagast 3 years ago
correct and hence, at least partly, if not mostly, our policy towards israel (and yes, the fact that some of our forien policy is dictated by stone-age religious beliefs is VERY scary). we have paid dearly for our support of israel. not only perish, but be sent to burn in everlesting hell-fire (tortured for all eternity basically). this is scary stuff...

Once again, your facts are Turkish!
qlaw04 3 years ago
I'm from Arkansas and I beg to differ.
vegtam1 3 years ago
Arkansas: 5 of 6 congress members are Democrats, and the governor is a Democrat. How exactly are the Dems not competitive there?
Magicarpats 3 years ago 4
Ever since Michael Dukakis, the Democrats have done well with the egg-heads and African-Americans. It was Bill Clinton (and possibly Jimmy Carter) who brought in the kind of Dems in Arkansas. Southern Democrats, who share the populism of the Dems but also a the racial tensions of being a state in the Deep South.
pa6xylly 3 years ago
I like Dean am referring to the Electoral College vote for president, not congressional or statewide races. Right now CNN has McCain up 7% in Arkansas, thats significantly over the 3% margain of error. McCain will carry Arkansas Clintons notwithstanding.
qlaw04 3 years ago
Check the math.. is McCain by nearly 10 points in Arkansas. I mean outside of the Clinton years when last did Arkansas vote for a Democratic preisdential candidate?
qlaw04 3 years ago
I'm aware of all that.
That said, you missed my point.
Did you hear that noise? That's the sound of your paradigm shifting without a clutch.
vegtam1 3 years ago
Well then you didn't have a point in this discussion. Howard Dean said that the Dems will compete for every Electoral College state. I said "No", there are states that are out of reach for the Democratic and Republican presidential candidates respectively.
You then start talking all this state-level and congressional district mess.
Vegtam1 your points are irrelevant to that which me and Dean were making.
Wuzzup wit dat homie????
qlaw04 3 years ago
I understand your point, which is why I said that beforehand. However your patronizing tone is pretty annoying.
My point is that at this point the reality that things are changing is unquantifiable - for now. As a citizen of a southern state I can attest to this.
Lastly, you obviously don't know what the 50 state strategy was.
vegtam1 3 years ago
"Lastly, you obviously don't know what the 50 state strategy was."
Give it up "Veggie" you've already been down that road with none to show for it.
qlaw04 3 years ago
Another thing, I like how you looked at my videos, decided I was black and then decided to end with "Wuzzup wit dat homie????" Nice racist undertones moron.
vegtam1 3 years ago 2
Nah "Veggie" I'm playin' soulfully ... no racial elements of a negative nature are intended.
Besides black pop culture is pretty much everybody's domain today. Look at the number of TV ads that feature unassuming white rapping or saying things like "bling."
No one's getting reflexive over it.
qlaw04 3 years ago
We'll see on Tuesday, won't we?
ibwilliamsi 3 years ago
Well,
Obama will win, and he'll even take a few Red States with him, it'll be a big win but not a 50 state strategy. I mean Obama never campaigned in the deep south just like McCain never campaiged in New England.
The days of Reagan-like 50 state sweeps are over as America is politcally and more importantly socially and culturally divided.
We're almost as we were in the 1850s. Lets hope we don't repeat history!
qlaw04 3 years ago
The Dems are doing just fine in Arizona. If it weren't for the fact that McCain is our senator, he would probably lose here.
MMS747 3 years ago 4
Well yeah, I now hear Arizona is neck and neck, thanks to north eastern Jewish retirees and other migrants from California.
Demographics break for Democrats this time around.
qlaw04 3 years ago
Oh, I'd definitely not be so sure what's going to happen in Georgia tommorrow. IF McCain wins Georgia, it won't be by as much as many think he will and there's a good chance a Dem will pick up a Senate seat.
Daybreaq 3 years ago
A senate seat for the Dems in Georgia. Is it a redistricted seat?
Yeah of blacks vote in Atlanta, Macon and Svannah, then a McCain victory there would be something not much more than 55%.
qlaw04 3 years ago
lol you can't "redistrict" a seat up for the U.S SENATE because the ENTIRE STATE votes for it,

Here is a example of Howard Dean being right.
"May 22, 2005 , Democratic National Committee chairman Howard Dean asserted on NBC News' Meet the Press:
"Dean:You know that abortions have gone up 25 percent since George Bush was President?""
Guess what abortions went down under Bush.
sirfith 3 years ago
Ban abortions and legal, registered abortions will plummet. Illegal "coathanger" jobs will go through the roof. Simple as that.
megamarsvin 3 years ago 4
Abortion rates DID go down under Bush. People were no longer aborting the mentally handicapped once they realized they could grow up to be president.
bajacaca 3 years ago 7
lol, nice
Mattey10101 3 years ago
No they haven't what are you talking about... show some proof. Also, you point out that Dean made that statment on the 22nd of May 2005, from when Bush took office untill that point abortions could have gone up. They could have gone down since then (which I highly doubt) however at the time in which he made that comment he was right.
Do your research

The beauty about Obama is the fact that he employs the best people in his campaign, and willing to LISTEN to different ideas.
Obama's campaign so far has been near flawless. It didn't happen by accident. Smart man, got the right people, formulated the best idea based on everyone's input, and executed to near perfection.
Doesn't that sound alot like what it takes to be the President?
Even the folks that at FOX that (Bill OReilly) interviewed Obama was impressed by his ability.

OneRelentlessMind 3 years ago 2
Uh, no, we were right about the surge as well. The reduction in violence started with diplomacy and reaching out to the Sunnis - not with the Splurge.
However, the whole purpose of the surge was to provide stability so a real coalition government could be formed, and that hasn't happened. The surge has FAILED at it's goal, not succeeded.
