Yet the Cop is the hero. All Rambo wanted was a bite to eat. Man, these cops nowadays like pushing people, and they make some trumped up charge that the suspect was loitering or a vagrant.
@morrieswigs I know right. The 80's action movies had so much more classic indevers in them. Todays aren't bad but will never compare to these originals.
In the movie there is a scene in teasle's office, where you can clearly see military medals mounted on a frame. according to the book, teasle was a korean war veteran. his anger towards rambo reflected more on how some korean war vets resented vietnam war vets. however in the movie, outside of that tiny detail, it seems more that teasle just despised military types.
Now days the army is no better they get drunk all the time, party with their mates and use the war as an excuse to kill people. The only time you end up with people like Rambo is when they have seen some really life changing stuff or gone through it (this stuff generally being "near death experience" sorta stuff). The soldiers that expereince this come back changed men and never talk of the war,the ones that dont become arogant and talk as if war is something to be proud of.
If you were the cop there were one of 4 things that happened. 1. he shit himself 2. he shit and pissed himself, 3 he shit, pissed, and cried 4. All the above
I wonder if anyone realizes that the actual point of this scene and the others that follow is to show what that shitty war did to young men like Rambo? The idea that this is the only way he can retaliate against personal injustice is sad. Answer this for me: who would've willingly changed places with that character?
@jerico641 Exactly. Lots of people like to remember the "badass" parts of this movie, and the action fluff of the sequels, but a lot of people conveniently forget the ending of this one. It shows Rambo for what he is (thanks in no small part to possibly the best acting Stallone has ever done, besides the first Rocky movie), a broken man who can't function normally anymore. We are supposed to feel sorry for him, not necessarily admire or idolize him.
Thanks; I also feel it was his best job since Rocky (and certainly better than anything else he was in after, including Copland); the one thing Stallone often excels at is throwing himself fully into visceral action scenes where the violence and the character are very much in sync, and the action seems very real and believable. In this way, he got us to care about this broken character, and identify with him. Personally, I could've done without the speech at the end though
@jerico641 Yeah. It's almost like Stallone tried method acting at the beginning of his career (and was good at it), then either decided it was too hard or the directors/agents told him to stop. Rambo IV, which I expected nothing from, was surprisingly well-written and had a solid performance from the old man, and its action scenes define the word "visceral." Easily the best one since the first, if not as good.
I didn't care for Rambo IV, but I did somewhat enjoy the last Rocky film. It occurred to me to wonder what it would have been like if there had been only the first Rocky movie in 1976, and then this one released in 2008; I think it would have made it much more poignant, and we could have avoided all those ridiculous sequels.
Cops are a bunch of pussys who hide behind badges and National guard is a bunch of drunk retards with guns. Solid Fact. It's army veterans like Rambo who are the real heros.
"I could've killed them all. I could've you. In town you're the law. Out here, its me. Don't push it or I'll give you a war you won't believe."
Simply one of the best series of lines in a movie ever. It loses some impact because it isn't short and sweet like, "Murdock, I'm coming to get you."
Still though, considering the scene as a whole (not pictured in video), the take down of the deputies culminating with, the knife to the throat of the Sheriff Teasle makes this scene in the movie
Yes, excellent scene. "Don't push-it. Don't push-it or I'll give you a war you won't believe." Nice foreshadowing. Not My favorite though. I think my favorite is when he learns Delmar Berry is dead. "Nam got him and didn't even know it." Also, love the scene near the end when Crenna says, "You're gonna die Tiessel." and Dennehy says, "Everybody's gotta die."
He is the ultimate warrior, the ultimate combat machine: no pain, no hunger, no mercy, only one thing is in hiy mind: win by attrition!!! YEAHHHHH!!!!! YEAHHHHHHH!!!!
Teasal was not really a bad guy in this movie. He was pigheaded maybe, but mostly it was a case of macho pride. he couln't 'let it go', especially after the scare in this scene. It humbled and humilated him and he had to prove he was just as tough as Rambo, especially being 'his' town and all.
