It's not they're good drivers, it's just that they have wider space ( in terms of the size of their vehicles) .A lot of U.S. vehicles are extra wide, most of which are of course gas guzzling SUVs, it would be a nightmare if you were at this same intersection with 100+ hummers.

It's way too obvious that the risk of accident will be much higher with this kind of chaotic intersection, than with well-arranged ones in most developed countries. It's actually not that bad when you get into the rhythm. The thing that will screw you up is an inexperience rider deciding to stop his/her bicycle or moped. Then, your anticipation of what's ahead and to your sides is messed up and you might run into them.

Yeah - I lived in Hanoi 6 years. Not that bad when you are doing it. Looks bad from above or from the side. There's a flow to it, it goes quite slow and also because for a lot of people there thier bike is the most expensive thing they own so they definitely dont want to hit each other.

Worst thing IMO is stupid tourists who get scared and do erratic things, like run across the road, or even one guy who tried to jump from the middle of the road to the footpath right in front of me!
